To me a memory card is just another thing you have to buy if you wanna keep going from where u left off. thats why i like my xbox its got a trillabite of memory so i dont think ill ever run out of space on it... (the only thing i find sad about it is that most of it wasnt made by microsoft)

Okay, but what do you do when you want to play with your game data at a friends house? I just take my Memory card.....

thats true... who would want to carry a Xbox, to a friends house.
There good and bad.
you can copy game memory to other ones
all you time and files you played will be on that so if the game breaks you still got the saved files but if the memory card breaks there goes alot of stuff.
also sometimes i like it when you can save your files to the game and not on the memory card

AH like the old Nintendo, SNES, and Genesis
Hard Drives > Memory Cards

If its possible, I might install a hard drive into a Gamecube. xp
Don't give too many props to hard-drives...it was ALMOST the fall of my beloved XboX

The Xexon project will not have a hard-drive...but rather use on-board flash memory

the XboX is awesome for storing save games, music files..downloaded content...but once techies realized you could replace the mear 8gig hard-drive and replace it with a 120gig.....and add a mod chip you could STORE your games on your hard drive....

my modded XboX had 28 games.....all in virtual memory....

if this contiuned any further it would have been the demise of XboX....XboX LIVE was the only thing that kept me straight since IF you use a modded XboX on LIVE your account is revolked FOREVER!!!

never heard of a hard drive for the gamecube. but hey atleast you can carry your gamecube around. Unlike the Xbox, and PS2. still i like mem cards.
Well, most everyone has mentioned the many pros & cons to both memory cards & hard drives. I myself prefere mem. cards, but I would like them to be a bit tougher, & much less likely to corrupt your data (this happened innurable times w/ my PSO files ;. wink . Another good side to mem. cards is they are MUCH cheaper than a built-in HD.

Hm... Gamecube for $99 & a $25 mem. card or a $180 X-Box? lol

Uhhh.....149 new.....
100 used at a Gamestop

just FYI biggrin
Memory cards are great because they're portable and honestly if you care at all about your precious game gear you won't lose them or break them. The drawback is the limited space available. Honestly, if you really want to keep your 100 percent complete games then just buy another memory card and keep storing. Beats the hell out of only being allowed 3 saves per game *cough* oh wait ninetendo didn't change that despite the fact (Zelda windwaker, Fzero etc.) Or havin to lug your console around cause you have your data on the HD.
This is my problem with memory cards.

I'm a pretty hard-core gamer. I have a lot of games. I like to SAVE these games.

I have three FULL PS2 memory cards. It's a waste of money, and since there are only two memory card ports, I've lost one of them. Not only have I lost a memory card, but I've lost all the progress I've made on a lot of games. Not only have I lost my progress, but I've lost irreplacable hours of my lifetime that I spent on something that's gone now.

That's my problem with memory cards.
I feel it depends upon the maker.

Madcatz, for example, their devices work terrible right after the warranty expires, like it was programmed to go awry. The equipment they sell sucks. (No offense.)

But, N64 memory cards were built in. You didn't have to save, most times. It was automatic. But, now we have data cardsa that are easy to lose, get stolen, or other damage. The only thing that could make memory cards better is if they were built in. Without being built in, memory cards suck.

Ok, I'm off to the next board now....

the crappy gamecube memory cards barely hold any data. The xbox holds craps load, and it's 150, not 180. XP

Memory cards are quite the improvement compared to what used to be the standard... internal batteries or just not being able to save at all. whee Memory units are better for saving when renting games, and if it dies one can just buy a new one. When internal batteries die... one is just out of luck and the game cartridge can't save. sweatdrop

It also works the other way around, you have a CD game, but you lose the memory card, whatever was on it is now lost. I've had that happen to my PS1...over 13 games of FFVII and many others including Arc The Lad with over 200 hours of play time and most chars on level 350+. I'd really rather buy a new game then go thru all of that time to get back to where I was.
