What's wrong with how they portrayed her switch of emotion upon seeing her father figure?

It was sudden, absolute, and never permitted her to be much more than a simpering needaman, at least until after Adam was dead.

Quote:
Keep in mind that it's more than possible for someone to see more than one person as a parental figure. I have a couple of friends who have at least three older men between them that they consider their fathers due to the influence each had on their lives.
It's not, therefore, outlandish that both Gray Voice and Adam should be seen by Samus as father figures.

At least the three older men were (presumably) of the same general culture. If one were Nigerian, one Swedish, and one Chinese, this would be less plausible, but not quite outlandish. Even then, we're dealing with three humans - not a Chozo and a human. Indeed, she shouldn't even be thinking like a human.

Quote:
As for her reaction to Ridley, let us keep in mind that the limitations of the older games prevented Samus from showing much depth of emotion. Who is to say that during those previous encounters with Ridley, she was not just as scared as now?

The 2002 manga, which was "shouted out" to in that scene, attached the heroic BSOD to an encounter before Zero Mission (earlier in volume 2) and the climax and defeat of Ridley came because she overcame it.
Also, if she'd had it in any of the Prime encounters, or the Metroid 3 encounters, she would be dead since she was alone. So her being alive says it. 3nodding Once again, though... seventh encounter... and also running around a space station with cloned Zebesian creatures and pirates... and also having a proven track record of staring down all sorts of eldritch horrors and pirate creations, and emerging victorious.
Heck. Metroid Prime says it if you have the Fusion suit.

(Yes, in the PTSD link, I do fit one of the critical descriptions)
Quote:
However, there are some people who are aware of the past connections and yet still criticize it, citing both her lack of a reaction to Ridley's survival in the other games as well as the fact that the ending of the Metroid Manga also had her triumphing over Ridley and even mocking him.

Quote:
This time around, however, the shock of seeing Ridley revived when she was sure he HAD to be dead, after all those other times of being defeated before, was likely just enough to put her in a further state of emotional instability, after her unexpected reunion with Adam and her old friend.[the black guy, I forget his name]

Anthony. I would have much preferred to see Samus get more character development through him than through Adam - it would have been interesting to see the possibilities.

Okay, so her reaction to Ridley doesn't make sense outside of absolute shock, but I still say they could have done a worse job on that score.

But as to her mental state in relation to her father, that's like saying she was either dumb as a rock or lied to for years, neither of which I think is true.
Gray Voice would have undoubtedly talked to her about what she was like and shown her examples of other humans, or possibly even have let her meet others during trips together.
It's perfectly sensible for her to form a firm bond with a person of the same species as her despite being raised alongside the Chozo.

From what I remember, the main purpose behind making MB a clone of Mother Brain was so that complete control could be achieved over the Metroids, and the cyber-zebesians being controlled were a side-benefit of that research.

The flaw there is that Mother Brain couldn't control Metroids. She failed to control the ones in Tourian, unless she just didn't care that they were snacking on Zebesians in her area, and she definitely couldn't control the baby.

Quote:
As for the Pirates in the Prime series, keep in mind that they had a home planet with commanders and everything. It's more that possible that between the time that Mother Brain was destroyed and Dark Samus started taking them over, many of them started following the highest-ranked of the Space Pirates, in absence of Mother.
Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Space Pirates CREATE Mother Brain for the purpose of controlling the Metroids in Super Metroid?

The Chozo created Mother Brain, not the Pirates. The Pirates recreated/cloned her and gave her an actual body in Super Metroid.

In the manga, Mother Brain says that the Pirates are naturally submissive to stronger leaders and it was hardwired into their genes like drones controlled by a queen. This would make them easy to control by anyone with enough power to keep them in line, like Ridley or the High Command.
Actually, I've read that during a few conventions they've already expressed interest in making new Metroid's for both the new platforms.
one of the Wii-U's tech demo's is Mii's dressed In Samus' power suit or flying in her gunship in a vs mode.

Problem is, Metroid plays second fiddle to Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon, even before the "Tragedy" (not my opinion, but meh) of Other M.

I think Retro might need a another crack at it, though maybe try something different.. but they might be busy with the next Zelda last I heard XP
I'd love to see what happens after the events of Metroid Fusion. All we've been getting for a while are the events that take place in between the main series, but what's going to happen to Samus now that she's part Metroid?
Love Metroid blaugh

here's my take as to why we haven't yet.

While Sakamoto claims he's got ideas in his head, I think nintendo doesn't know what to do next with the series.
They've obliterated the space pirates, for the umpteenth time, Metroids have been wiped out, repeatedly, and she's even destroyed the Metroid's reason to exist, the X Parasites.

and, Samus' image was change, probably to something that isn't as popular as her Iconic image.

They've got to move into a new direction in order to keep the series alive, but after they're last attempt to do something new, I'd imagine their are very hesitant about the idea of "Something new"

I don't know how Zelda gets away with doing the same thing over and over, probably (and simply) because it's so popular it doesn't need to try (my inner fanboy doesn't care, I enjoy them anyway, but my inner critic says that's just lazy) but I don't think Metroid, a series that isn't as popular as Mario or Zelda, will last on the "Same old" tactics, and I think Nintendo knows that.
