Welcome to Gaia! ::

Wow, is anyone else in the Tera beta? I'm already freaking loving this game, no matter what race you choose you can pick a class, that's a freaking miracle, I was playing vindictus before this and was pissed to high heavens the archer wasn't even out and it was only a guy.

I don't play WoW and I lost my guild wars s**t so this games going to be my freaking life.
The lag is s**t balls though, every server is on high and and some are full. Guh I love the charecter designs and everything crying

I played it. The community is stupid and trollable. I should know I announced that I was about to troll and they fell for it every time. Also I had more fun in the chat than the actual game.

I've been playing it a bit but... there's just something missing from it. The game is gorgeous, there's no doubt about that, and it's probably the most beautiful MMO I've ever played, but it feels to me that the developers focused most of their attention on the graphics and not enough on the actual content. While the combat feels very action-oriented, it just felt... I don't know... off. There was just something missing, something that wasn't letting me enjoy the game as much as I thought I would.

I really wanted to get into the game, I really wanted to enjoy it, and while it has some interesting aspects, there's just something about it that's stopping me from really being sucked into the game like I have been with other MMOs. I can't put my finger on what it is, but there's something there. Something...

And I'll admit that I've been spoiled by the full voice overs for quests in Star Wars: The Old Republic, because I found reading the pages of text for NPC quests in Tera to get a little annoying. Heh.

Tera has some amazing potential, but it's just not there yet...

May I suggest a couple of possible reasons behind the combat feeling off?

#1 Perhaps the speed of it? If you play other action-oriented games like Devil May Cry, maybe Tera's combat feels slower?
#2 The length of time it takes to kill enemies? If even minor enemies become a mini-boss fight as far as how long it takes to reduce their HP to nothing, then maybe the game just needs more slews of smaller, more easily-killed baddies for you to fling around, like in a Dynasty Warriors game or Devil May Cry game, without taking out the harder-to-kill baddies, so that you can have both flavors of baddy and switch between them depending on your mood?
Challenging, lengthy battles can be fun, but sometimes, a player just wants to go all-out and watch their enemies fly around like rag dolls.XD

i played through the early stages of beta testing and the game is a flop, the fact that its not the typical targeting system "point and cick" dosnt make it innovative, the game failed to deliver what they said they were bringing to the table, character and class content is extremely basic, like early stages of WoW, the battles are slow and repetative, again not what they advertised "fast passed high action combat" you click, he swings, the mob swings, you stand there for 5 minutes just slugging it out ......and for the visuals, they really dont bring anything new, Aion has comparable visuals but is better optimized, the game requires so much to run so little, this game will be the next aion, huge initial turn out, dead scond quarter.

Now something I can complain about is the targeting system, Thats a huge flaw I did see, but for the most part, Yes the game seems like it's all level grinding on mobs and such but in the future if after the beta they actually change things to all these players complaints I would love to pay for it 3nodding right now I'm just enjoying the character customization and the scenery. I didn't read too much into it about being a high paced action game, but I guess as the strange one I am, I'm just having fun level grinding myself whee

As is true when any game has an open beta. Won't argue the fun aspect since that is an opinion which is different per individual.

Once the game goes live (and P2P) a lot of the trolls will move on to the next F2P game/Open Beta. (Which is likely to be Guild Wars 2)

Better that you have to aim things though.

Also not to many mmos where you don't "swing then they swing" kinda of combat....and not to many in the future right not either.

While many enemies did seem to take forever to go down, I'm not sure if that's the reason for my distaste. Though it may be part of it. I've played 200+ MMOs, so I've had more than my share of experience with different types of enemies and combat systems. I'll admit that Tera is one of the better "action-oriented" systems that I've played in an MMO, but something just felt off. Maybe it is how long it takes to kill an enemy, I'm not sure. True, I have no problem with big boss enemies taking a while to go down, but the little grunts shouldn't take that long. When even low-level grunt enemies take forever to kill the combat just becomes tedious and stops being enjoyable.
So yeah, that is probably part of it.

But there is more to my disappointment with the game. But I can't put my finger on what it is. Something...
I really wanted to enjoy Tera, it sounded outstanding, but at this point I think I'll just stick with SWTOR...

200+? I didn't even know there are that many.

I know how you feel though. I really enjoyed the combat system of TERA and I adored the graphics, but something still threw me off really liking the game. I suspect it may be because apart from the remaining content is quite bland. Quests are pretty much all about killing X creatures and reporting back. The story failed completely to interest me and I was either skimming the quest dialogues or skipping them altogether. Each area felt completely unrelated to the others, both in terms of events and story, as if they were designed by different people without talking to each other.

It felt very much like a stereotypical MMO like any other that's been released in the past few years, but with an inventive combat system slapped on top.
Tera is very pretty and I enjoyed the classes. My boyfriend really said the priest class has a great variety of spells as well. We have been playing it in our spare time, but we won't buy a subscription to it because we can't love it. The combat is at least a little different than the standard MMO formula that's been around far too long, but the quest system hasn't changed. I click through quests just to get to the point, and that's just how it is. Fight a recolored mob ten times in this zone and then in the next zone. There is nothing drawing about the story to make me want to read the boring quest dialogue. For that reason, I won't be sticking around.

There is a ton of MMOs. A lot of the ones I've played have been free-to-play, but I've had subscriptions for a number of pay-to-play games as well (Star Wars Galaxies, Auto Assault, The Sims Online, Earth & Beyond, Tabula Rasa, Star Wars: The Old Republic)...
It seems like there's a new MMO coming out every other week, I swear.
Maybe I'm weird, but I've been keeping a list of the MMOs I've played over the years... sweatdrop
These are some of the MMOs I've beta tested. There's also a list of MMOs that I've played, but not all of them, just more of the "main" ones that I've played for longer and got a bit more attached to. Plus I haven't updated that site in quite a while, besides the beta test list...

You're right, though, most of the game does feel fairly shallow. The quests didn't really surprise me, I really have yet to see an MMO that has quests that are really anything more than "go here and kill X amount of Y creature". Some MMOs are just able to hide it better than others, heh. Honestly, I didn't even read much of the NPC quest dialogue. More often then not I kept thinking "yeah yeah, blah blah, just give me the stupid quest". It wasn't because I dislike reading, it's just because there wasn't much interesting to read.

The story is indeed pretty generic. That definitely doesn't help.

It'll be interested to see what Tera is like a year or two after it launches. But as it is right now... eh, it's not for me...
Simply put, I'll stick with Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game is far from perfect, but I have been enjoying it for the most part. And I do love me some Star Wars.

Though I do love the adorable characters in Tera. I'm half tempted to play the game just because of them. xd
