Well...I wouldn't really say ban them from the world.

But I suppose that there should be action taken to the fact that some games that are very unapropriate for minors are still sitting on the shelves of major stores where many children visit (Wal-Mart, ToysRUs, etc.)

Movies are also a great concern.
I played GTA and other violent games since i was 6 and i am fine and the parent has to get the game for the kid so there is no reason to ban it from toys r us if the parent is ok with the kid playing it.
And theres my problem right there. I don't feel violent games should be banned, but age restrictions need to be followed through.

I feel immoral that anyone under the age of 10 should have any access to that kind of violence. Why the hell would you need it then? Thats the growing up "Lol, lets go play outside" age. Soon as you hit 10, medium violence seems fair, soon as your 14, no amount of violence seems immoral.

Age restriction is more of the parents job, isn't it? Or is the job of being a parent and actually watching over the kids so hard and so complicated that cooperations need to do it for them?

Violent Video games work as escapism and helps with stress and so they should not be band. Violent video games create a fantasy and safe world for people to do anything they want and get away with it. In the right state of mind, this never slips into reality and causes any negative event in reality. Those who grew up with violent video games and start mimicking what they see need to be taught otherwise. If they are not taught and no one tries to help them it is not the Video Game's fault for existing and teaching that child or teen, it is the parents fault for letting it get out of hand and/or turning the other cheek.

It is sad how many parents blame the game when they rarely, as statistics show, look at the rating of the game its self before purchase. That, or they are with out thought when they buy their 4 year old kid Mortal Kombat or Grand Theft Auto and get offended when their kids start copying the language and are forced to get up and raise their kid better when the whole situation could have been avoided by using more caution when buying games.
and people claim it teaches kids to kill when kids know that people get killed when they are stabbed or shot but books actually teach things about murder i never knew like how to make it look like an accident or something.

We could also look at Looney Tunes and say it teaches kids that anything thats alive does not die when hit by a 300 ton weight. Or Harry Potter teaches kids that its cool to grab the broom, get onto the roof of the house and jump off... or wear a cape like Super Man and jump... or get shot...
lol thank you!
good to see some intelligent people on this board
on another thread 2 people are calling me stupid for thinking manhunt should not be banned.

XD No problem. There is a second issue of video games and that's sexism. Like, Tomb Raider, which is probably THE BIGGEST attraction for male games, is sexist because its not meant for woman. ... well... duh... it was created for the male population and not the woman population. RPGs are unisex and are becoming even more so.

I don't know exactly what a female game would consist of nor do I care what it would consist of if there are any I wouldn't play it, but isnt that the point? A game like that would be focused on the female population and thus, by those who complain's standpoint, be sexist against men. But I wouldn't complain.
there are many games that display men as sex objects with perfect bodies lol
oh and feel the magic was a female game i think

XDD My GF never played Tomb Raider and thinks its sexist. I've played them before. They arent. Infact, I would be afraid to make Lara Croft angry. XDD

Your completley ignoring my point. I'm not for Overprotective Parents, i'm against kids playing overly violent games before they have any need to.

Theres just no need for Halo, GTA and the likes that early. There's no peer pressure at that age (and if there is, that only more proves my point), and no real need for high levels of violence that early. Tekken or Mortal Kombat style violence at that age is fine, but MGS and GTA style violence is out of the question.

But Barbies are ok for girls to play with and Tomb Raider is still Evil. XDD Barbie causes skinny girls to have low self-esteem and think they are fat.

There is no need for TV at that time so should we not let kids watch it? theres never a true need for games but we play them BECAUSE ITS FUN and if a kid has a good guardian to teach them then they know right from wrong

lol People look for problems wherever they can.
I don't understand why people think violent video games should be banned. If you banned video games, then you'd have to ban movies as well. I mean what makes Manhunt worse than Saw or Hostel? They have an 18+ rating so kids wont be playing them legally.

Should violence in television and movies be banned?
Should violence in literature and illustrated novels be banned?

Like everything else, it is to be regulated. Violence is as much a part of our daily lives as breathing and producing excrement. It is unavoidable when it's happening, and it happens whether we like it or not.

It is also in need of supporting education. Not from schools, but from household guardians, peers and parents. Good moral values are established at home. It is instilled within a person at a very young age, and is kept throughout life. You can have your kids watch violence, but as long as they know that it isn't a good thing, and that the consequences are dire and often lethal, they will know the difference between right and wrong, they will know when and where violence fits and that it never yields anything desirable.

The media has made the video game industry a bad example for too long. Violence exists in all forms of media, but instead of giving equal attention to all forms of media that exhibit violence, they choose to take attention to the most famous ones and over exaggerate the situation. Parents become paranoid and we end up with finger pointing that extends a meaningless squabble of who should be held responsible when the answer is actually quite simple.

To know violence is to respect violence. A child that does not know violence will not respect violence, and thus will abuse it to his enjoyment.

Your as bad as the parents who feel violent games equals all gamers are violent.

Your pointlessly targeting a small minority of parents who are either too stupid or dont care about their children enough to check the age restrictions.

EXACTLY! It has gotten to the point that people tried to sue Bill Gates and get him in trouble for the guy who loved playing Tom Clancy games on the X-Box and shot all those people at Virginia Tech. Seriously people, in that situation don't shoot the messenger. Bill Gates didn't make the game or concept for it, Tom Clancy did.
