I think if schools actually made their students read something educational instead of proverbial crap, then they would be better off. If schools made the students read some self help books in english class for example, and practiced communication skills.

The problem is, that the students read garbage now a days. And I'm sorry, but making them read something like romeo and juliet is not gonna make them a better person. I hated that play with a passion... If schools focused more on the good, then the bad... then video game "induced" crimes would be far less...

Also, I think mandetory cat scans would be excellent too for students... and maybe a professional shrink for a counceller...

I'm not happy about the way the whole Virginia Tech thing panned out either. That kid was seriously screwed up, and his family knew it from the start. It wasn't even an issue (much) of the stereotypical "all the kids pick on me so I'm gonna take a gun and make them pay!" thing. People should never place the blame for school shootings on anyone but the people who were in direct contact with the person and still did nothing to prevent it (i.e. counseling)

On a side note, what do you play? I think it may give insight to your perspective.

Uh lol.....nothing insanely violent.....or really all that violent at all. I have a Wii, so most of my games are non-violent. Though i'm looking at getting No More Heroes when its released here.....is that violent enough for this thread or do i have to leave?

Personally I dont like the Wii, no offence to you, its only because the controllers are... well.. weird. And their recent games that I've seen on TV kinda suck. It seems they got more child friendly and left our all the good nintendo games. I hate X-Box for the same reason. X-box is focused all on adults and no one else. But I would still choose the Wii over all the new systems.... ok, now brb.

Yeah, i hate the PS3, because i think it looks like a giant mutant sandwich maker.....and its Sony. And the thing keeping me away from the 360 is all the "Ring of death" and "Had it a month and it destroyed an $100 game and broke. They fixed the Xbox, but never refunded for the game" stories i hear from previous Xbox owners.

X-Box has been having alot of issues and should be called the PaperWeight-Box. The PS3 font for its name is exactly the same as for spiderman... which I dislike. It makes me suspicious. Also, the fact that Playstation threw away Crash Bandacoot as their mascot and icon as quickly as they did makes me think that they really dont have the same original concept that nintendo had and they are just being a posuer.

i own a PS3 but my uncle has a 360 and it is faster and has better frame rate

I know. So George Bush could have possibly rigged this whole ordeal that we are in now, but there is a conspiracy even deeper than that, and yet at the same time very vague. For instance, why is it that all these people we have never seen or heard of are all of a sudden in the poles and all have, basically, the same life style? Wouldn't it make more sense for the American government, originally based on the concept of "By the people From the people For the people", to have some one who is not rich and has actually seen the dirt and shine of the country be president? You know, some one who actually walked from the poverty masses into presidency rather than some one who is rich and has some power skip into presidency?

Well whoever you guys get next year will be interesting. I'm hoping for the lady/black guy.

Its not suppose to be some one you would have a beer with, its suppose to be someone you have had a beer with. That you remember seeing on the other side of the bar with very little friends and they were NOT in business suits.

A few things people, really.
First of all, your political views: Obama (is not really black) has said nothing different than Hillary (pulled Bill Clinton's strings, effectivley president already). The only differece is that one is a male and the other is female. Neither really cares about video games, regardless of what they say. That being said, to the more pressing issue....
Now, the important thing to remember is that video games are, in fact games. Pretend simulations of real life. As a famous red-haired (not gay) character would say, "P-R-E-T-E-N-D, got it memorised?" People who play video games for periods of time morph into one of two sub-species of human.
1. Couch potato-growing fat, pale, and pasty.
2. Toothpick-somehow becoming extremly thin with arms unable to even lift 5#.
Of course, there are the rare types who play sports games in real life and pretend, made more common by the failure franchise called "Guitar Hero".
Point being, no gamer, except those who can turn the power off, is actually physically capable of a violent act because of either too much body fat to throw a punch, or not enough body to actually hurt someone. What you must try and understan is simply that the news reports of violence caused by gaming is a falsification. In truth, the crime was random and either caused by Satan or the stupid kid. Or the stupid kid's stupid friends. Violence caused by actual gamers is as real as Feuer-el's p***s. And I hope that he reads this, because it was a cheap shot, but totally worth it. And what you just witnessed was the full extent of video gamer violence.
To close, even if they are banned people will still be able to buy the games regardless.

Uh no they shouldn't. Anyone who thinks so need to get their head examined. Violent video games are also known to release anger ya know? Sometimes you need to shoot something so you could have that release finally from that game. Plus as well, violent video games don't cause problems it's the morons who think that "shooting people" is really cool. Video games are set to be not real in an ideal fantansy world. If people can't separate realism from fantansy..then they should go seek help.

I think over top violent video games should get least an M rating depending on what the content it has in the game. If the content seems to be more than an M rating then give it an AO, but not because it can a menace to society. It has to be a damn good reason why a violent video game must be banned from a particular country not because "Oh we can do it because it's violent". It's the content that matters inside the game, not box art or the name.

1. The whole stereotype that a gamer is fat, pale and pasty or a toothpick is all wrong. I don't commit murders because their pointless, and stupid. I don't desire to spend life in prison because I couldn't handle the way people treat me. While I believe that some forces influince those types of crime, I don't believe videogames are one of them. Personally speaking, I think fantasy violence should get a lower rating then realistic violence, that way nobody can blame videogames for murders if the kid can't buy the game to begin with. As for adults, they should already know better.

2. I'm ready for a black and/or female president.I think the country could stand to have a woman running things. (Hey, I'm a 21st century kinda guy. I'm not afraid to have a girlfriend who's stronger then me, who is more successful then me, etc.) As for having a black president, as long as obama does a good job, I'm okay with him getting elected.

Video games don't 'release violence' like some people in this thread are claiming. It's been proven in controlled environments time again and again that if a child is witness to a violent act (Think of the famous Bandura experiment) he or she is -more- prone to be violent later on.

This being said, there is some factual basis for restricting video games. However, at the same time there's an excellent rating system in place which, if followed, would prevent the violence mentioned in the first paragraph. Parents who choose to ignore basic child psychology and let their kids play any M rated game because they 'want it sooo bad' shouldn't be able to procreate in the first place.

Basically, if people actually followed the rating systems set up this debate wouldn't even exist.
