What is Orochi, Dynasty or Samurai Warriors? The Warriors series is typically a hack n' slash game which feeds off historical facts and fiction, which is taken into a massive platform of you playing a lead role with 1,000s of allies to take on 1,000s of opponents. Your actions will swing the tide of the battle!

Dynasty Warriors: This is based largely on the popular Three Kingdoms era in China around the years of 180AD to 260AD. The Three Kingdoms idea was implemented by the great Zhuge Liang some time after the fall of the Han Empire. This was divided into Wu, Wei & Shu whom fought it out for control over China.

Samurai Warriors: This is based in the Sengoku Era, the game covers the period from around the mid 1,500s to the early 1,600s in Japan. This features the story of the three main unifiers, Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi & Tokugawa Ieyasu fighting for control over the land. A time where many Diaymo battled to claim Japan as for their own based on personal ambition and to place their names in history.

Warriors Orochi: This is a special project which combines the characters of Dynasty Warriors 5 & Samurai Warriors 2. While it will clearly have a higher fictional value, it’s the ability to have your favourites from both games in one rare treat which makes this game amazing!

The next major releases due are (US dates):

Warriors Orochi 2: (PS2/Xbox 360) – 23 Sep 08: This is the somewhat unexpected return for the Warriors Orochi series, but this time it includes just about everything any KOEI fan would want, return of all DW/SW characters, new characters, dual mode and tonnes more!

Dynasty Warriors 6: Special (PS2) – 18 Nov 08: DW6: Special is a port/expansion of the original Dynasty Warriors 6 with reduced graphics, but also removal of a number of 'cloned' characters & and altered with some of the character models of the game. This will give PS2 users a chance to get a taste of a next gen Warriors game, within the PS2 capabilities with a few other alterations in-between.

Dynasty Warriors Series

The Dynasty Warriors branch is the largest among the Warriors games, which is unsurprising considering it was the first. Currently in production is the latest Dynasty Warriors 6, although there are far more then just six Dynasty Warriors games in the series. Here is a summary of the main Dynasty Warriors titles, as well as the PSP versions. There are also various such as but not limited to Dynasty Warriors Gundam, as well as PC, DS & GBA versions of the games.

Dynasty Warriors (Sangoku Musou)
PS Release Date: 17 November 1997
Description: This is the very first Dynasty Warriors game to have been created; it was a PS1 game that was most unlike the Dynasty Warriors games of today. Instead of the all too familiar Hack and slash epics of the later games Dynasty Warriors was actually a 2 player versus game. Featuring characters such as Xiahou Dun and Cao Cao but also used other unrelated three kingdoms characters like Nobunaga Oda. While this is the first under the US title “Dynasty Warriors” it is effectively a one off game in it’s own right, also noticeably has a different Japan title (Sangoku Musou, rather Shin Sangoku Musou of the latter titles)

Dynasty Warriors 2 (Shin Sangoku Musou)
PS2 Release Date: 26 October 2000
Description: Dynasty Warriors 2 is essentially the first of the current generation Dynasty Warriors games, it introduced the large levels, huge armies and a number of well known characters into the new hack n’ slash format. Without this game had Dynasty Warriors would not be the game we all know and love today, essentially the pioneer of the series!

Dynasty Warriors 3 (Shin Sangoku Musou 2)
PS2 Release Date: 26 November 2001
Xbox Release Date: 30 September 2002
Description: Dynasty Warriors 3 has been said to be the best game in the series so far; at least in terms of improvement from a prior title. It introduced some of the best characters yet and added the much adored 2 player co-op mode. Also new to the series were ‘Other’ Warriors which included the likes of Lu Bu who was of course unaligned to either of the Three Kingdoms, also others such as the unique and yet daunting Nanman campaign and the joy of having to capture Meng Huo multiple times, as well as deal with powerful Elephant Troops. Dynasty warriors 2 set the foundations for the series and this game built upon them greatly.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends
PS2 Release Date: 14 January 2003
Description: The first of the Dynasty Warriors extensions. Featuring all of the Dynasty Warriors 3 aspects and character, while now also adding new story campaigns for the ‘other’ officers such as Lu Bu & Yuan Shao, also introduced the new Xtreme & Legends modes

Dynasty Warriors 4 (Shin Sangoku Musou 3)
PS2 Release Date: 25 March 2003
Xbox Release Date: 30 September 2003
PC Release Date: 1 April 2005 (known as Dynasty Warrior 4 Hyper)
Description: In Dynasty Warriors 4 we witnessed a new character and bodyguard design mode, allowing you to completely customise a self made character and give him a self made bodyguard unit. It also gave us the new duel mode to take an enemy officer on one on one in a short period of time. On top of that of course a few more characters were added to the series which is becoming a common trait with the series.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Xtreme Legends
PS2 Release Date: 4 November 2003
Description: As with the previous Xtreme Legends this borrows many ideas from the prior version while extending on them.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires
PS2 Release Date: 31 August 2004
Description: The First of the Empires variations. The more strategic option that involves working on the takeover of China, here you command officers around the field as you please and call the shots for whatever development you wish for outside of battle.

Dynasty Warriors Vol 1
US Release Date: 16 March 2005
Details: The core design is very similar to that of Dynasty Warriors 4, it is however often criticized (I agree as well) for having the information screens (HUD) taking up too much of the screen – meaning less to see when in battles. It’s also featured the ability to be able to unlock some Samurai Warrior bodyguards as a bonus to the portable series.

Dynasty Warriors 5 (Shin Sangoku Musou 4)
PS2 Release Date: 29 March 2005
Xbox Release Date: 13 September 2005
Xbox 360 Release Date: TBA (Japan 22 December 2005 knows as Dynasty Warriors 5 Special)
Description: Dynasty Warriors 5 is most notably known for it’s most unique and quality Musou modes yet, unlike previously seen in the series each character will tell their own story and be more accurately placed to where they would have been in history. This adds a greater realism and individual aspect to the game changing the face of the Story Mode.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends
PS2 Release Date: 15 November 2005
Description: Another extension form to DW5 with the Xtreme Legends options, including the all new Destiny mode taking a created mere soldier through the ranks to a trusted general within your chosen army.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires
PS2 & Xbox 360 Release Date: 28 March 2006
Description: Vast improvement on the prior Empires version, with the addition of far more commands and options between battles add a greater strategic element to the game

Dynasty Warriors Vol 2
US Release Date: 25 October 2006
Details: The core design is very similar to that of Dynasty Warriors 5, the screen viewing problems of Vol 1 no longer exist while most of the other traits still remain. Making it quite likely the most enjoyable version of Dynasty Warriors to play on a hand held system to date.

Dynasty Warriors 6 (Shin Sangoku Musou 5)
PS3/Xbox 360 Release Date: 19 February 2008
Description: Dynasty Warriors will be available on the next generation gaming consoles, completely overhauling many of the original character models; changing weapons, vastly improving interactive environment such as climbing towers and swimming. Unfortunately rather then new characters getting added 7 in fact have been cut.

Samurai Warriors 2

Description: Massive improvement to the SW1 games. This time around the game really individualises itself from the Dynasty Warrior mould, while of course maintaining a number of its factors which make the system hugely successful. The most notable addition is the new R1 commands, these allow for more ‘special’ unique moves to each character. Also added are a shop & gold collection system, more characters & improved stories make it a fantastic jump form the first SW titles.

1) The Kessen series

The Kessen series is typically an RTS style game which uses the same Sengoku Era & three Kingdoms stories also witnessed in the Warriors games. Kessen & Kessen III relate to the Sengoku era; while Kessen II relates to the Three Kingdoms era.

Kessen
PS2 Release Date: 17 October 2000
Description: This takes place in the Sengoku era with the Eastern vs. Western Shogunate forces, the east lead by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the West lead by Ishida Mitsunari. Here you have overview command of all your officer troops, various battle & troop skills while participating in a beautiful dramatic form of the Warring States era lead by Tokugawa. While back in 2000 it wasn't a bad game by today’s RTS standards it's rather poor. Great for the FMV's and story, but not much more then that; for Sengoku addicts only really!

Kessen II
PS2 Release Date: 26 September 2001
Description: Kessen II uses a fantasized variation of the three kingdoms story. Most notably early in the game is the main plot involved Liu Bei & Cao Cao effectively fighting over Diao Chan. While to the core it’s historically incorrect it still holds a number of true traits and offers a massively improved RTS style gameplay then previously witnessed in the first Kessen. It's included many new features such as new battle turning magic, elephant troops, ability to climb castle walls, siege castle doors and more. Many would say this has the best RTS gameplay of the series.
Click here to read my Kessen II review.

Kessen III
PS2 Release Date: 22 February 2005
Description: Back to the earlier stages of the Sengoku era, you lead Oda Nobunaga's army of Owari, who declares that he wishes to end the Chaos and rule the land. Attempting to build trust of his father’s army and officers such as Shibata are only the first of his problems when attempting to rule the land. The story has a strong historical base which includes over 2 hours of beautiful FMV’s. Also features two of the better known battles at Okehazama (1560) & Nagashino (1575). Of the Kessen titles this offers the highest action elements seen to date, including the new Rampage which is not too much different to fighting on a horse in the Warriors games, while adding to the strategy with a much overhauled planning section to buy new weapons, horses, ability tomes etc.

I'd recommend you get rid of the "Attempt" bit in your title. Just call it official and keep the thread alive. It'll become official after a while. *Nodnod*

Anyway, I love these series, and I can't wait for Orochi! biggrin
Ever heard of Devil Kings? It's much like Samurai Warriors, just that it's made by Capcom.

Fair point, I've done that, as well as added a banner and a little more info. ^_^

I'm currently trying to obtain a copy of that actually, unfortunately some titles are a little hard to catch down here in Australia. But yes it looks great, and yet another way to view the great Sengoku Era. smile
Hey, same here in America when you don't have credit card. I had to run around two different malls and four different game stores just to find Samurai Warriors 2. ^^;;
Yeah I know what you mean, I spent months chasing after a copy of Kessen II...but finally got it in the end at the least.

I've also added what is the possible structure of the thread, and the last of the reserved posts is also new!
