Okay, my dad bought me this game, and I've heard of the series. (He got it because he knew I love FF, and he saw the Square Enix, although I know this is Enix.) So, my question is, can I start off by playing this game? Or should I try to play the others? From the post, they seem to be linked.

No, you really don't need to play the first two. While the third takes a long time place after the other two, there's barely any mention of anything from those games. There's some info on planets and stuff from the games in 3's little dictionary thing, and the main character of the second and his father are mentioned in a side conversation. That's it.

I love Star Ocean 3! I haven't been working very hard with collecting BT's, The last time I played I finally beat Freya^_^ (on normal cry ).

I can't seem to get the Philosipher's stone no matter how much fol I use.

I think the story was great, but I felt the second half of the game was rushed and character development pretty much stopped.
