I dunno about all other characters. I have a liking toward Fayt and I personally find him better than Albel for most battle-related aspects. Albel just has a stronger presence that seems to demand more attention.

And Peppita kicks both their asses <.<;

No real surprise there really, both Nel & Albel make a huge impact on the game as unique and at time sparing characters, and Fayt of course being the main character and one of the best fighters in the game.
