Which Link are we talking about? Well lets see in OoT Link could use Naaru's love to protect him from sand, the Megaton Hammer can break stone he could have 3 Fairies in a Bottle to bring him back to life Iron Boots if Gaara tries to push him using the sand, well in OoT he has a very good chance he doesn't need speed. In MM link could throw on the Fierce Deity's Mask, game over ninja. Wind Waker... yeah Link is screwed there. Twilight Princess Link again has Iron Boots, Ball and Chain in place of the Megaton Hammer, as someone has already said Gale Boomerang would help some and of course there are the good old Fairies In A Bottle, and Magic Armor would give a good while of invincibility. Link isn't just a swordsman.

I totally forgot that a large majority of the Link's were actually different incarnations that means everyone should choose one.

I personally like link a helluva a lot more than Gaara, but Gaara would still win. I mean, Link wouldn't even be able to get close to Gaara without getting killed. SAND SHIELDS PEOPLE!

We apparently have alot of bias people on here.
starting off with. And No Im not bias Ill prove both Gaara's weakpoints and Links.
1: Gaara's sand isnt as great as you believe. Yes it protects him but have you seen the way not only rock lee but sasuke and Dedeidra have taken Gaara out. The only reason Rock Lee lost is because of his inability to control the gates completely. Sasuke's Chidori is technically a sword in a since that its a weaker lightning blade. Its not impenetrable! Dedeidra clearly wiped Gaara out with explosions. And Gaara does die. Sakura has to use a jutsu to revive him. (the same jutsu that Tsunade used on Naruto. and the little boy used on Raiga to bring him back so he does die. Those who agree are bias.)
2. Link has a bow that uses ice and fire. Yes he has Nayra's Sheild which protects him from MOST damage but not all. His Master Sword wouldnt break against Gaara's ultimate defense sheild but he wouldnt be able to break through it. He has bombs which in a certain case might defeat Gaara like Dedeidra. But not likely. Link has a boomerang which like people said he has a wind one so it could blow it away for a moment but like they said its chakra controlled. Link isnt exactly the fastest person we know but neither is Gaara. Link does have the Hammer which could maybe get through Gaara defense. Also if you didnt know fire turns sand into glass if Link used his fire arrow (which can melt anything [stated in Windwaker])It could be turned into glass use the boomerang or another arrow and Gaara's sheild is no more.

In this conclusion I say Link could win.

Link would win. Why? Because he defeated Ganon who could kill Gaara, so it just works out like that.

Gaara would win no problem. If he could stand up to Deidar's explosions for the most part then he could definatley stand up to anything Link can throw at him

The problem with the fire arrow is that sand is just dried particles and Gaara's sand would just separate as always the moment it catches on fire.

Naru's Love is limited and uses a lot of magic energy to even use. Unless the fight takes only a minute, he isn't going to be protected long.

Using the Megaton Hammer would be no different than a giant kunai slash. Except Link loses a speed advantage in movement as well making it to even try to wield it.

Deidara's bombs are much more advanced than most of the Links'.

Not to mention the topic creator forgot to say which incarnation of Link and what the area is.
