I'm literally laughing my a** off, I can't believe it's taken them this long to start a "Pay real money directly for in-game items" plan.

Spend real money, get in-game items!

This is different from the "trading card game" items in that Blizzard is controlling (and receiving) the cost directly, as opposed to the lucky people finding a Spectral Tiger card and reselling for hundreds, even a thousand bucks.

They crossed the line, and there will be no going back. I expect I'll soon be able to purchase T11 head and chest for $200 a piece. rofl

Is this a sign that they are losing more of their regular customers and need to milk those they still have?

To be honest, I've spent ten bucks on less-useful items before (used to spend real money on Gaia monthlies for crying out loud), so I may very well buy one of each, even though my account is cancelled. Collectible minipets and mounts, for some reason, hold even more of a draw than the most uber gear for many players, myself included.

(And to add to my mirth, the banner ad right now is yet another WoW 10-day free trial offer. Heehee!)

I think you missed Gaming Discussion, Nonesuch.
I am against selling of virtual properties.
Well, they are a private enterprise and can do what they want.

And yeah, purchasing items pretty much turns me off of games.
So if you dont like it dont buy it and dont play it. Whats there to complaint about? So what if blizz is losing customers? So what if blizz is crossing "the line". Its not up to you to control and no amount of bitching is going to change their decision.
I'm not afraid of them deciding to start selling superior weaponry or gear. It's a huge jump from aesthetic junk to items that change actual game mechanics. That's just more work for them when they have to find a way to balance things when people start complaining. What I'm worried about is that the game could turn into Maple Story, in which you basically HAVE to spend money to get anything unique or cool in the game at all.

This is pretty much it. Why not bring this bullshit gamer whining up on blizzard's discussion boards? There is an old saying just for whiny gamer boys who complain over every little change like the end of the world is coming.

GQLLFM.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...

They are just pets, it has nothing to do with "milking." You pay to play WOW anyway, an extra ten for something that isn't even NEEDED to play the game, don't complain.

By the way, gaia cash.

...A true friend will be sitting there next to you saying, "Damn we ******** up".

I think it's a smart way to get donations. Besides, at least they aren't doing like so many other sites. The items that blizzard sells is stuff like vanity pets. They mostly look cool, but do not give any sort of unfair advantage. Many games give ultra powerful weapons and stuff, but Blizzard is selling a special pet that can follow you around. I see no problem with this. It's smart.
Well, they don't charge monthly for their online services like other companies, so I guess they gotta make it up somewhere.
There's nothing wrong unless it is anything more than aesthetic.
