In your paper rock scissors model player A doesn't wait for player B to throw before he makes his action, does he?

it would be turn based really...where A makes his move..then B makes his..and then you watch it play out....only if they make the same move does it really matter who is the fastest. (if using magic, a spell may have a speed level....when using the block, both would hit at the same time)

Or you could just make it so that the system picks up on each players move and shows the results afterwards. Only after each player has made there move. Speed wouldn't necessarily matter. And if there is a tie simply rematch. sweatdrop

well systematically that may not work well...if both of you attack at the same time...why would it just be a rematch? I think the speed of the weapon would help a lot in terms of strategy in that case...as well as magic..and with block they both get damaged at the same time (two people running into each other would definatly result in pain on both ends)

I am what I am, and that is all that I can be

I'll hunt up a post from Sandokiri on the old thread. I think it would aid in the discussion of "turn resolution."

Also, a friend of mine wrote me... heart

I think what she has to say has some relvance to what Neo talked about in his post:
"Cinderfae"
I was reading the BST thread and noticed that. Sounds like it will all be exciting though some of it sounds kinda scary. I hate playing mudz and have my new character PKed by a higher level one...and most of the time it is random *bides her times to get back the MUD people*

If PvP was limited to level or higher, that would limit senseless player killing.

*huggles Cinderfae*

Um, yeah... Hi! I'm Quilliam, I saw an ad in the Gaia Times about this, just wanted to check it out.

I have an idea for the EXP. I'm not sure if it was posted yet (I'm sorry, my attention span is less than that of a flea, and I wanted to post this before I forgot.).

I roleplay on a site called Illusionary Minds Chat, and the way we have our XP system is with voting. How it works is, we observe the actions people take durring the RP, and, depending on if the actions can be worth XP, chatters in the room vote for the user. Sadly, with a system like Gaia, the voting system would just end up being a popularity contest.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in. smile

Umm... Regular clothing will probably be counted as armor or extra equipment that will affect stats, right? I think that the amount of items used for stats needs to be limited in some way for a couple of reasons:
--Wearing an item for every clothing layer limits originality.
--Wearing an item for every clothing layer looks horrible in most cases.
--A person with slightly low amounts of gold can save up enough to wear items in four or five slots within a week or two. People who are rich have a much easier time to fill up all 15 or so slots, and that's not fair.

So I suggest that there be a limit of about five armor slots. Maybe it could even start out as one armor slot and you gain more with levels.

Then maybe at a certain point you could wear two items in one armor slot. Each would contribute half of its stats or abilities to the armor slot.

Example 1: 1 armor in armor slot 1
Dark Cape (X stats)--------------------------------------> 1 X stats

Example 2: 2 armors in armor slot 1:
Dark Cape (X stats)------\
---------------------------------------------------------------> .5 X stats + .5 Y stats
Leather Boots (Y Stats)-/

blaugh

I had put an ad in the Times, just to see what kind of response it would get. I wanted to draw more outsiders into the discussion who might not normally visit the Q&F.

No, your idea is original, and I think you do well to point out its possible weaknesses.

I understand attention spans are short, and that is hard to sustain an extended interest in one subject while surfing other parts of the site. But I thank you for the imput.

I'll also cite the link you included.

I'd like to wait for the regulars to catch up, before I move on to Bee Queen's idea. So far as I can tell, it shares similarities with FeatherFly's idea for weapon upgrades.

I think speed should be a factor, definately. If, just for example, Fighter A had a large Broad Sword, and Fighter B had a Quick-Draw Cowboy Revolver, the speed of their attacks would be much different. While they attacked at the same time, Fighter B would be able to shoot down A before he could swing his sword. Therefore, speed matters.

One thing though that must be necessary for the weapon speed to be instituded though, is that if the weapon has a faster speed, it should do less damage than the slower weapons, mostly because why have a slow powerful weapon when you can have a fast powerful weapon. it would then make all the slower weapons inferior and will end up with having everyone use the same weapon

Instead of limiting, you could have a penalty, -1 to speed or something... per item, being turnbased, i hope it's FFX turn based, and not normal turn based.
In FFX, you have turns, but quick people might have 2 turns, then you, cus he's double as quick as you

But everyone should have the same chance.

Everyone won't, that's life. Anyone who ascendsMoney wise thing will have an advantage in reset. Anybody with 3 Mr. A'sDonation items will have an advantage. Usually, those who've played longer than other will have an advantage. Those with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills will have a huge advantage. The true equality you want the reset to bring won't ever, and can't. If you don't grant this point, explain why. If you do, then why not become one of those with the advantages instead of one of those disadvantaged?

This is an iteresting thing i found in KOL, they are going to make a reset (all players begin lv1) but if you complete the game, you get a bonus.

Seems interesting in the Rich vs poor debate. I should write that article...

Hey i'm not here cus i'm on finals! but i've been reading around.

Some interesting ideas, something i remembered from Featherfly: DUDE stop making examples of Donation items(how they work in battle)! they should be kept off the discussion.

Seen some repeated ideas, some good, and some add new things, but i think there are a bunch of ideas, that are floating around, and we all agree on them right? we should make a list of those, so that they won't be disccussed.

@FeatherFly: Just saw your summary of terms, quite useful, you might want to add to beardy:
Min/Maxer and Munchking, they mean the same thing. Oh and Red Mage whee j/k

Very true, but there will still be powerful fast weapons but more powerful slow weapons. So, everyone will be happy in the end.

Super Mario RPG has a great battle system. whee Or at least I think so. It's isometric, like FFT.

Actually, I want them to have tons and tons and tons of classes. xp After all, the slogan is Customize Your World, and I think that it would be better if everyone didn't have the same classes. >.>
