As for Gaia being boring, if you can't get into the plot or get interested in any of the characters/events, it will probably stay boring.


As for front page concepts, maybe little hints at the latest updates on the site could appear for those not logged in/signed up yet. Artwork of monthly items and maybe showing snipets of manga updates could be attractive.
Just, for crying out loud, don't mention Twilight/Harry Potter/Naruto. There is already a nasty divide among the community about such things and the GCD implodes whenever those are included. D:
