Welcome to Gaia! ::

If you've ever played any of the mega-popular Final Fantasy games, have we got a treat for you! Nobuo Uematsu, famed Japanese composer and musician best known for scoring the majority of titles in the Final Fantasy series, and Arnie Roth, a Grammy-award winning musician with extensive experience composing for film and conducting live video game concerts, have both agreed to an interview.

Curious about how they created music for each version of Final Fantasy, especially across consoles? Want to know what a videogame concert is? Dying to find out if they ride Chocobos in their spare time? Naturally, these guys have a VERY tight schedule, but we tricked them into giving us some time. If you've got any burning questions, post 'em here. We'll round up the juiciest ones and do our best to get them answered.

Check out the Wikipedia page for Nobuo and the AWR Music page for Arnie to learn more about them.

A classic one:

Is there an arrangement which you had fun during the process?
For Mr. Uematsu, I wonder about his experiences working with other videogame composers on the same soundtrack (FFX comes to mind). Are there any things about such a situation that are especially fun or challenging, as opposed to the experience of working on a soundtrack by oneself?

And for Mr. Roth I'd like to ask what his first impression of videogame music arranged for the orchestra was like. Also, what does he think about the future of such music as a part of our culture? Are performances like those he is involved with introducing it to people who had not considered it as "serious" or "real" music before, for instance?

Thank you for this opportunity to ask questions. biggrin
I want to know... don't they ever get sick of One-Winged Angel? rofl

Do you enjoy playing the games that you compose the music for? Is that ever weird for you?

What is the most un-likely thing that you draw inspiration from? Something in which the inspiration caught you by surprise.

Mr. Uematsu, you composed some amazing music for the Final Fantasy Advent Children movie that was almost like metal and had lots of guitars. Are you planning on doing more music like that in the future?

What are your views on downloading music over bittorrent?

First page heart

I'd like to know if it's true, that Nobuo Uematsu composed the music for Final Fantasy in about 5 minutes. I read it somewhere as a rumor, but I couldn't believe it!

To Mr. Uematsu: How did you feel about the death of Michael Jackson?
To Mr. Roth: How did you feel about the death of Michael Jackson?
