We've been monitoring the effects of the new gold grants, and we're very proud of you all: you've been posting more, commenting more, playing more jigsaw, pinball and electric love factory... just what we hoped to achieve. At the same time it seems the overall effect on the economy is quite good, too: no ridiculous price increases.

I'm adding a small clarification (May 16,17), to counter a couple of rumors in the forums:
Booty grab gives out just as much gold now as it did a week ago.
It gave out more gold for a couple of days following a performance boost that made people with slower computers able to get all the coins. We adjusted it down a little bit, but it gives out just as much gold as it did a week ago.
Following the performance improvements, more people are playing the game. We adjusted gold granting slightly, so the total remained the same. Same total for more players means less gold per player. Same total for the same number of aquarium owners means that each aquarium owner still makes the same amount.
The following graph (scale removed) shows the average gold earned by an aquarium owner in the past couple of months.

I just received 75 gold for my first forum post today.
You might notice some changes in gold granting across multiple features, with more emphasis for socializing. This is one in many steps to stabilize and socialize Gaia - we will probably go on tweaking gold grants for some features.

We tweaked gold grants on some features to encourage more social activities and to encourage more active participation.
A lot of people asked for more specifics, so here they are:
- Posting in the forums and guilds gives you more gold. There still is a curve: the more you post, you get a little bit less gold for each additional post. But the decline is a lot slower than before.
- Posting a journal entry gives you more gold.
- Commenting on someone's profile or journal gives you more gold. The gold curve's decline is a lot slower than before.
- Voting in the forums, guilds and arenas gives slightly more gold, and the gold curve decline is slightly slower.
- We increased the gold granting for Jigsaw, Pinball and Electric Love Factory, to make them more comparable to each other and to other games, and to reward people whose way of socializing is to chat while playing games.
We have cut back a little bit on the overseer grants, to balance it out. Overseer grants are random, but depend heavily on your tank's health. On average, the daily earning from your overseer is an order of magnitude more valuable when your tank is at 100% than it is for a 10% health tank. There are some rare items in the overseer grants that are only available at 100% but not below.
In line with the intention to encourage social interaction, we have not made significant changes to booty grab: booty grab is played in the forums and encourage socializing. We are constantly tweaking it, both for performance and in terms of gold granting.
This is definitely not the end of it! We're keeping our eyes open, and we're monitoring the effects of these changes.

But how can this be? I'm sure I'm making less gold per game than I did before...
Simple Example
Before the improvement
4 people every day played my tank, each made 300 gold.Total = 1200 gold. I make 300 gold out of that.
After the improvement
6 people every day play my tank, each makes 200 gold. Total = 1200 gold. I still make 300 gold out of that.
Even though each player earns less, tank owner earns just the same
