Hi everyone,
We’re embarking on a fun, awesome, and dare I say heroic, quest to create a video of our users expressing what Gaia means to them. It’s going to be a compilation of very short clips which will be stitched together, creating a phenomenal video tapestry of Gaia-ness that we can share with the world (or at least with other Gaians). Each clip can be funny, sentimental, straightforward, goofy – whatever expresses your feelings about Gaia. And earn some gold at the same time!
So how can you be a part of it? Easy! Just video record finishing this sentence: “Gaia is……” Get as creative - or uncreative - as you like, as long as it comes from the heart (and is less than 5 seconds long). So if the dictionary sent in a submission, it would probably be “...a website containing forums, games, and other fun activities.” If OmniDrink was answering, it would be “...what we acquired in a brutal hostile takeover.” If Lanzer was answering, it would be “...where I sang Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ on the Officecam” (see the video clip here).
Here are some guidelines to making an awesome video clip:
• In your video, answer the question “Gaia is _____.” Don’t include the first two words - just fill in the blank part.
• You can answer practically any way you want – be creative. Examples: a funny video of you speaking your answer at the camera, using art, words written on paper, stop-motion video, moving screen caps, your dog playing zOMG!, or just about anything to define what Gaia is to you.
• Try to make the video around 5 - 10 seconds long so that we can fit in as many as possible.
• Use your cell phone, camera, web cam, or camcorder to do the recording.
• The video clip should be sent to us as an .avi or .mpg file and emailed to membertalk at gaiaonline dot com. Also upload it to youtube and send us the link and your Gaia username in the email. Submissions will be accepted through Oct 25th.
• Try to include your username somewhere/somehow in the video, but make sure there’s nothing inappropriate or personally identifying (address, real name, phone number, etc.) in the video or the background. smile
• We want your “bloopers” too! (as separate files please). We want to create a “bloopers version” too.
• Users who get their videos chosen will win 10,000 Gaia Gold!
• The finished video will get shown somewhere on Gaia for all to see, and you'll be able to bask in all your glory!
• Let your creativity run wild!
Why do this? Because you CAN! smile And it would contribute to a kick a** video on Gaia!

EDIT 10/21 - The videos we've gotten so far have been fun, creative, and awesome! Keep 'em coming in because there are only a few more days left in the contest. Remember to send in your file in either .avi or .mpg format and include the youtube URL too. Good luck in getting yours chosen!
EDIT 10/26 - Ok, the submission period is now officially over. Thanks for all of the hundreds and hundreds of videos -- now we just have to get the popcorn and watch them all! We'll try to finish our 1st pass of the judging this week. The hardest part will be deciding which ones make the cut, since there are so many awesome videos (the few that I've seen so far). Thanks again for sending in your videos and good luck everyone! Stay tuned here for progress updates.
EDIT 11/3 - The video submission period is now closed, so thanks for all the great videos! We're going through them now but there are so many great ones to choose from that this will take a bit of time -- but stay tuned for the finished video! We'll add an update here as soon as it's available for viewing! Until then, this topic will be locked. Thanks again everyone for participating and for anticipating too! I also can't wait to see the finished video! biggrin
EDIT 12/1 - The montage of your videos is almost done. It took a little longer than we thought, but we're busy putting the finishing touches on it and hope to have it online in a week or so for you all to see. I think you'll like it. Stay tuned!
