Hark! Those mysterious admins have asked me to share this note with you.

zOMG!fest is fast approaching, and with it comes lots of goodies: the start of new in-game mini-events and a live chat with soundtrack composer Jeremy Soule.

Jeremy Soule, you ask? The guy behind the music for zOMG!, Company of Heroes, Guild Wars, Elder Scrolls, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Knights? Yes, that guy! You'll be able to ask him all sorts of questions about music creation, musical instruments, setting the mood, and all that good stuff.

The live chat will kick out with a few questions gathered in advance. As you might have guessed, we'd love your help coming up with those questions. So... ask away! We'll force Jeremy to answer a handful of the best ones.

. . . No one wants to ask questions?

I'll start.

  • Which composers or styles inspired your compositions? I was looking at some of the non-original tracks in zOMG and many of them seemed impressionist compositions (such as Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, Saint-Saens' Carnival d'Animaux, and Debussy's Children's Corner).

  • Did you have input in what the music in a particular area should be? How did you decide on the style for a particular location?

  • Did you use live performers for the recordings or synthesized sounds? Do you coach the performers on how your compositions should be played?

  • Perhaps a bit unrelated. . . Do you play any musical instruments?

Please send a PM if you need to contact me.

FYI, folks...Jeremy is heavily involved in the Japanese pop scene also...not just game soundtracks. So questions along that line are cool also.

(Check out the profile for "Music for the Planet" for a list of all the albums that Jeremy, and his partner Jeff Miyahara, have done throughout their career. Jeremy was also instrumental (no pun intended) in wrangling the Promageddon dance tracks together from Jeff and Bentley Jones.)

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOOOOU A HIDDEN ACE
And of course a Cozy Holiday Tree. wink

Will sheet music ever be available for the zOMG areas? I would love to play "Village Greens" on the piano.

Is there an instrumental version to the songs? Since most of the music seems very digital.

I have some questions. Did you see each area the art work in the flesh so to speak or just the concept drawings for it? And did the developers tell you what kind of music they wanted or did you have a free hand in it? Also have you played the game? And... Will you being doing the music for the new areas and mini events? heart I do love the music, the music in Zen Gardens is one of my favorite. And if you ever want to play and need a bit of a hand PM me. wink

Edit:
Oh how I love the edit button, if only there was one on profiles. Hint, hint...

Anyways here are some more questions. What instruments do you play? When did you compose you first song? Do you write lyrics too or just music? What is your favorite song, not counting your own songs? We all know those are great. wink What do you do to help inspire you? What projects are you working on at the moment?
