Welcome to Gaia! ::

=_= I fail. I've been living in Texas for 2 years and I haven't been to a convention. I'm visiting my dad this summer so I'm going to AX this year, my first convention~
Since I wont have a chance to cosplay this time around, I want to go to a convention in Texas later this year. I just don't have a good idea as to where to go, or what conventions are good. And then, there's always the time of year that has to be taken into consideration. And that's of course, why I cant go to Ai-Kon or San Japan.
I have a good chance of going between the months of September and November or if next year, February and May.

I just want to know your opinion and experiences at these conventions so I can have a good idea of where to go. I would be willing to go far up in Northern Texas if it means a better experience at a convention. I live WAY down south, 2 hours away from Houston, right smack on the shoreline in a VERY VERY small town so yeah >.>

Actually the person is in the RIGHT place.
Gaia Conventions TOUR is the new Forum for CONVENTIONS only.
All those Con Questions here and those who are discussing cons.
The C&C is no longer C&C, that has been renamed Cosplay meaning just for IRL cosplay only. Nothing about cons should be posted there. It should all be posted here.

As to your convention issue, OP;
You might could wait until March 2011 for Anime Matsuri, I've heard it's a good con and it's in the Woodlands. (North of Houston on I45 like you are going to Dallas...

I haven't gone, but it is on my check out list for next year. sweatdrop
For conventions, I usually head to California and next year I won't be able to do so. 3nodding

yes I have stop asuming wthout getting the facts first
If you're in the DFW area, the next cons coming up are AnimeFEST & YuleCon. This will be our 1st year to go to AF (YuleCon is still undecided), but we've gone to A-Kon several years (my teens more than I have). We also went to IKKiCON in Austin this year, but weren't too impressed with it. They still have lots of kinks to work out to make it worth driving to Austin for.

Thank you~

Anime Matsuri might be it. The others are just a little too soon for my liking. That and I have no idea how my school schedule is going to work out yet sweatdrop I actually have a cousin that lives in the Woodlands so maybe she can find some of her friends to go with me and maybe cosplay <3
I know, California has so much more to choose from. That and anime seems more popular over here rather than in Texas >.>

Ah, Thank You so much for sharing~
That means ikkicon is out, I dont want to go up to Austin if it isn't worth it. AnimeFest looks interesting, but I just may have to wait until next year that way I can actually plan ahead >.>

We enjoyed the panels we attended at IKKiCON but not a single one started on time. Everything was very chaotic.
One of the things my teens like is the AF is longer than A-Kon (more cosplay time). And from what I've heard, is a very well run convention.

Im sure I would pull pulling the hair from my head if I had to wait like that. I like things very organized *OCD*
Ah yes, MORE COSPLAY TIME. Thats very important but not as important as how well run the convention is. Cosplay is just the little bonus that makes it fun <3
It makes me fell better knowing about these things before hand~

One con in California you should try out some time is Fanime (San Jose) - Memorial Day Weekend. It's very WELL organized and the people are Superb.

I wish I could go.
I'm leaving California in the beginning of August and I wont be coming back next year T___T
Im just visiting my dad and next summer he'll be in out in Iraq or someplace. Anime Expo will be my only convention in California until I'm 18 and can move. Which leads me to this thread, so I can find some other conventions in Texas to attend for the next 4 years of my life >.>

Last year I went to my first anime con and it was Ikkicon. I thought it was really awesome and it is in fact the fourth largest in Texas and getting bigger. I'm told that this year is going to be bigger than last year and I can't wait. :3
