depends on what item i dont like mp taking a cut so i try to haggle it on the exchange if that dont work put it the lowest in mp and hope someone buys it if ur not gonna be on for a while put it on 14 days it usually sells by then lol

If you are just starting out go long which is the full two weeks and on buy/bid. That's how I first sold my first few items. Then once I got the hang of things I sold thing on bid only for a week and the rest well yeah I'm pretty popular.
