Ah, Alchemy.. Gaia's way of making it near impossible to acquire the very long awaited Backwings.. Unless you have a mountain of Gold, but even with that it seems to be near impossible.. SO THANKS GAIA!!! Well, thanks to the current selling of Gaia's soul it is not as near impossible as it once was, also there are at least 100+ different wings out there now. So the only reason to go after them is for the Achievements or just to have the 'originals'. SO THANKS GAIA!!! stressed

Anyway, ℒei_Trigar here, and this is my Ultimate Alchemy Formula Guide. Here I have spent countless hours to provide you Alchemists every Detail for every Formula out there within these 14 Pages. Please use and enjoy this Guide and if you can, fill in the missing Details on some of the Formulas needed (See 3rd Post).

If you are new to Alchemy and have no idea what this is or how to do it check out this Thread, it'll provide useful information on what its all about. smile

The Ultimate Quest: Wing Mastery

I am under the painful quest of getting the hardest Achievement to obtain on Gaia, and I would love it if anyone could help me obtain it, there are a few ways you can help! You can donate components, gold, items, or anything like that, here's a list of some things I need here; Quest Page. Or by having me craft you the Large Backwings! So if you have great interest in having them I would be honored to craft them for you.

I will rank each user with ★'s depending on when they got to Level 10, fewer ★'s the older the Alchemist, here is what the ★'s mean;
★ = 1st Gen/Tier, Original Alchemy, before any changes were made. (August 18th, 2011 through April 17th, 2012)
★★ = 2nd Gen/Tier, Philosopher's Cache changes. (April 18th, 2012 through July 11th 2012)
★★★ = 3rd Gen/Tier, Many Formulas added to The Bifrost. (July 12th, 2012 through September 19th, 2013)

Good evening, you lot.

Normally, I wouldn't have an announcement for you - announcements are so common, don't you think? I digress.

I was told you needed to be informed of the following changes I've made:

1) The Philosopher's Cache in The Bifrost now has a price of 50,000 Gaia gold. I was told you thought this would be a good thing. It might be, or might not be - good is subjective. Whatever.

2) Flynn’s Plunder has been updated with an assortment of rare and valuable formulas and components which will only be available for the next week. You might want to get on this as these formulas and components will be cycled out of Flynn's Plunder at some point next Friday. Don't blame me if you miss getting them - you have been duly warned.

Hello, Gaians. I’m here to announce a series of important updates to the Alchemy system. Are you paying attention? Good. Let us begin.



That strange fellow Ivan apparently has a surplus of common items from past CIs, and he is offering up said surplus for purchase in the Cash Shop. He’s calling it Ivan’s Surplus. How creative. Either way, these items will no doubt be useful as alchemy components.

La Victoire will also now have the Winged Crafting Chest in stock. The chest drops valuable and rare components specifically used to create Alchemy’s greatest prize: back wings. Not only that, but the chest has a rare chance to drop any of the six formulas needed to craft back wings.

We will be introducing leveling bundles for Alchemy. The bundles will be available from level two until level nine, and each bundle contains a formula plus all the components necessary to craft an item and gain skill points in Alchemy. If you would like to level your Alchemy quickly and efficiently, these bundles will provide an excellent means of doing so.

But that isn't all. Nicolae and I have been experimenting with Alchemy, trying to figure out the best way to streamline the process for you intrepid alchemists out there. Unsurprisingly, we've managed to stumble across something that even I must admit is rather exciting! From now on, creating medium back wings and large back wings will no longer use up the previous wings in the process. That means that any Gaian who has already created the large wings will have access to all three sizes as well.

In addition to all this excitement, the Bifrost has been stocked up on extra components, and they will now be available for purchase in the shop. Now, that is all I have to say on the matter. If you do decide to visit the Bifrost, I ask that you not pester me while there. What is Nicolae around for if not to mingle with the riffraff?

Q: Why are the Level Alchemy Bundles failing when they say they have a 100% success rate. I bought these with cash, I shouldn't be failing.
A: There is currently a lag with the alchemy page that makes it appear as if you failed the Special Formulas used in leveling up. You should note that although it says you failed, no components or gold are lost. Please try refreshing the page a few times till you get a success.

Q: What is inside these Level Alchemy Bundles?
A: An Alchemy Bundle will contain one formula plus all the necessary components to craft a new component thereby giving you exp to level up your alchemy.

Q: Which Level Alchemy Bundle should I buy to level up my alchemy?
A: You should get the Alchemy Bundle that is the same level as your alchemy. If you are at level 5 you should buy Level 5 Alchemy Bundle as crafting the formula inside will give you exp towards reaching level 6. Crafting formulas a level below yours will only give you half the exp and crafting formulas 2 levels below or more will not yield any exp.

Q: What do I do with these components I craft from the Alchemy Bundles?
A: You can keep them, sell them or use them in crafting other formulas!

Q: Why do I still have to use gold to craft these Special Formulas inside the Alchemy Bundles?
A: The only change made in the Special Formula is the addition of the 100% success rate. Otherwise it uses the same components and gold values. Keeping the gold makes a good gold sink.

Q: What is the purpose of the Winged Crafting Chest?
A: This chest will randomly drop one component that is used in the crafting of back wings. Most of these components are currently rare and hard to obtain. A lot of these components can also be used in lots of other formulas!

Q: This is so unfair! I spent months and millions of gold solely to craft the large back wings and now you're just outright selling them!!
A: First off, congratulations on obtaining such an amazing feat! That's incredible! With only a handful of back wings on Gaia we felt their rarity was just a little too low and wanted to find ways to make crafting them a little more accessible. Crafting the back wings will still take a lot of time, money and dedication. However to distinguish any back wings that are made through alchemy we have changed the way they work. Crafting the medium back wings and large back wings will no longer use up the smaller wings! Anyone with medium back wings will now have two pairs of wings and large wings will contain all three size variations! Any back wings we ever sell outright (whether it be medium or large back wings) will only contain those versions and not the smaller ones.

Q: I'm trying to make the level medium/large wings but it's asking me to use my smaller pair to make them. I thought I don't have to use them up anymore.
A: The formula to make the larger wings will require you to use the smaller version but you will get an item back that has all variations!

My original intention with this was to re-design the system to require more site interaction and game play to actually craft an item. My original hope and intent was to have this out in Q1 of the year, unfortunately we weren't able to get to it. Due to the amount of time required for it we will see if there is anything more short term we can do so people can progress with the existing system.


Uncle Kenny Stated this at 6/17/2013 AtA: "Bandaid, paper-clip, and chewing gum fixes are a really bad way of improving features. They may provide a temporary fix but they /always/ lead to more headaches down the road. For something as large and complex as Alchemy, it honestly is easier and better to just scrap it and start with a new approach rather than try to fix every little nuance that makes the current system not work. It sucks but temporary patches just aren't a good solution for it."

Hello everyone!

I'm starting this thread in order to give an update on our plans for Alchemy. Many of you have provided great feedback on the system, and since its release we have been making many small tweaks to make it better. However, as a few other staff members have mentioned, we are currently taking a hard look at the system to see what could be improved. We would also like to do a better job of keeping all of you informed of the changes we make.

One note: Alchemy is being used by a large number of people, many who love it, and some who aren't quite so... into it. Our goal is to make it fun, yet challenging, and for it to be a way to tie different elements of the site together. Everyone has a different opinion on how to do that, so we’re going to try a few different things intended to address the most common feedback, while not changing the system too drastically for those already using it successfully.

First, we’ve heard pretty clearly that two of the main issues users have is that it’s too difficult at the beginning, especially for new Alchemy users. One thing we just did to address this is to add a link to the Alchemy Starter Kit (available from the original announcement) directly to the Alchemy page. This won’t help people already crafting items, of course, but it gives newcomers to Alchemy a chance to try it out right away. We’re also going to try to make it more obvious that there are alternate paths to crafting certain items, since some users aren’t seeing the page numbers in the lower corner. Finally, we’re going to make it easier to complete early-level formulas. We’re not completely sure how yet -- maybe by requiring achievements, or making brand-new formulas, but we’re working on that right now.

Second, we understand the frustration around how there can be an imbalance in cost between formulas, components, and the resulting item, and how hard it can be to get the components for some formulas. I don’t have any definite answers to give you at the moment (also I don’t want to make any promises that we may not be able to keep), but we’re doing some pretty heavy statistical analysis to see where we could re-balance the system. Once we’ve made some changes, we’ll let you know.

Based on your feedback, we have a list of a few other things that we can look at, but the things I have already mentioned are where we are going to start. I'll be posting again when we have any updates to share. And thank you for all of your suggestions and comments, whether for or against alchemy. They all help us to make Alchemy and Gaia better!

To keep the focus in this thread on the updates, I’m locking this particular thread. But as always, we will be keeping a close eye on any feedback threads made.


DEV ALERT! 8/24/2012: Pancakes removed from Cache/Case formulas

Since purchasing thousands of Pancakes one at a time for these formulas was apparently not as much fun as we thought it'd be, we've removed the Pancakes requirement from the Philosopher's Cache and Alchemist's Case formulas, and increased the 2500 crafting fee to 2750 to compensate.

If you're one of the unfortunate folks who now has a hoard of useless pancakes, feel free to gift them to me. One at a time. You're welcome

We've just finished making some changes to the distribution and rarity of alchemy formulas:

-all formulas have been removed completely from rare events (giftboxes, trunks, fat cats) and Daily Chance
-many formulas are now available in The Bifrost, particularly component formulas needed for further crafting
-rare formulas remain in the Alchemist's Case with adjusted drop rates (good stuff should drop more often)

On a side note sort of, all past Dernier Cri items (except that Gilded Diamond thing) are now available in Dernier Cri.

DEV ALERT! 4/18/2012: Philosopher's Cache is Changing!

We're changing the way the Philosopher's Cache item works in Alchemy. The new system will give you one of ten bag items instead of just a random component. Each bag has a different probability and contains a list of items that you can choose from. This removes some, but not all of the randomness of getting the item you want. If you don't get the bag you want, don't open it! Sell it on the Marketplace for some of that sweet sweet gold.

We'll be changing this shortly. The button to open the Philosopher's Cache will be disabled for a little bit while we shuffle some stuff around. Expect for it to be fully functional within the hour. If you have Philosopher's Cache and are ready to open it, wait for the new system because you are more likely to get what you seek.

The new PC item will still randomly pick an item, but those items will be "bags" which you can then pick an item out of. It reduces some of the element of chance, but not all. The unopened bags can also be bought and sold in the Marketplace. We're hoping to release this very shortly.

This is just the first step. Working on the next steps...

We split them up by value for the most part. So the highest probability bag will be the lower end items and the lowest probability bag will be higher end items. I'm not sure if there was a theme for each bag.... but yeah that was sort of the idea."

{Easiest/Cheapest Formulas to Craft} (as of 4/21/2014)

Formulas

First one I will mention is by far the most popular choice; the Orb Aggregate. All it requires is 100 Charge Orbs that are found in zOMG!. Best part about playing zOMG! is that there are many kinds of Loot in the game that can be used for Alchemy! So give the game a try!
Basically, if you play zOMG! enough, doing Level 1 Formulas can be relatively easy. Here are a few of them;
Lawn Shark Blades are easy, except for those 10 Pinwheels it needs.
Oh My Pizza box was a fun one to make back then, the Harmless Spores are a lot cheaper now so making this won't take to much effort, would be a cool item to use when you have a house party or something.
The Drill again, is pretty easy if play zOMG! often. Horrid resell value though.
Here are some others;
Alchemy Starter Kit Is very simple, it comes with the Aspiring Alchemist Formula and 2 of 3 needed Components you need to craft it, you also get 1 freebie and if you don't mind getting nothing back for it you can craft as many as you want! (Won't give you any XP once you reach Level 3).
Ultra Satan Cat Face it only requires Store Items only so it makes it all the easier to craft! Resell value at the moment is fairly low though.
Kapre's Beard, Cephalopodian Artifact, Pegasus's Feather, Dragon's Blood, Unicorn Blood, Bottled up Sunlight, and Bottled Up Moonlight are Component Formula's, which means you will fail a lot, but if you're planning ahead, many higher Level Formula's use these.
All the Cherry Earrings are easy to make now, and are quite inflated.
All the Loincloth Formula's are easy to make as well, might get some profit out of them.
10 Pound Guppy isn't to bad, not much resell value though.
Amigo Taco is a good one, just be patient when collecting the Salt.
Chicken Suit is a easy one, and is kinda inflated, just don't rush collecting the 30 Chicken Fletchings.
