What about them? You should look in the International Database as there were some Chinese threads posted before yours.

O: Why is it that whenever people say they are Chinese/know Chinese, it usually gets linked to Cantonese? Cantonese is a whole dialect on its own, albeit one used by the Chinese, why is it being categorised under "Chinese"?

Anyway, hello ^_^ I'm Chinese and speaks Chinese too.

Cantonese is a dialect group in Chinese. Why would people not relate those two together?

On the other hand, saying you speak Chinese is pretty ambiguous. Are you referring to Mandarin? Hakka? Cantonese? Or any of the other dialects? XD

We read the same characters (albeit people from Hong Kong and Taiwan go with the traditional characters), but our dialects are vastly different, so it's not a bad idea to distinguish it.
