Oh! I'm on Gaia since 2004 and I never thought of a Viet thread! Haha.
I'm Vietnamese. I was born in Canada. So my English is not so good and I don't know how to write in Vietnamese.

You speak French fluently then? Also, your English seems really solid to me though.

///Slash wrists, jealous. talk2hand I want to speak and write French fluently too! scream

Yeah, your English is quite good, I do not see any grammatical errors with your writing though.

(Well you are supposed to say "I do not really speak good enough English, but I am okay with writing in the language though", but still good sweatdrop )

Just wondering, are there plenty of Vietnamese people in your area?

There is a plethora of Vietnamese people in my area. Just visit the high school where I used to go, and there is a guarantee that you will meet one there.

On the campus I go to... there is barely any Vietnamese people there. sad Unless I am going for another campus for next year, then that's different but yeah.

Do you speak Vietnamese at home?

I always speak Vietnamese to my mom. Dunno why. xd

If you speak Vietnamese to your parents, speak French to your brother, who do usually speak English to? :3

Lawl! It's ''speak to'' and not ''speak with''.

I speak English when I have to, when I had English courses and when strangers speak to me in English. Haha.

Speak with is actually correct. And more formal. Speak to seems more informal, and since I usually use it in everyday conversational slang, I guess I continually could not get out the habit to use it, haha.

I see, so it is compulsory for you to learn English in Canada?

In primary school, you have to learn French like in grade 4 (different in other high schools however), and then after that, in high school you have to pick a language and do it. Then like ninth grade or so, it is like bleh, whether you want to do a language or not is up to you. I did not do French in grade 10 though, one was that the French teacher was actually quite horrible and the other is that, well, insufficient numbers in the class. Plus I was studying Japanese at that same time.

Yes, it's compulsory to learn English here, in Montréal, Québec. The rest of Canada actually is speaking in English. It is only in Québec that we speak French.

I want to learn Japanese too, but I procrastinate too much I guess...

Oh now it make sense. I thought most Canadians would be most likely to speak French as well as speaking English. Guess it is only a state.
