Oh, if you're going to be visiting Auckland, may I suggest gooing to visit the volcanoes? Perhaps see if you can go to White Island (a volcano island).

On the whole, I'd say that New Zealand is a relatively safe country, so if you need directions or need help etc., most people'd be happy to give directions/assistance/whatever.
