Sorry about the irrelevant post, but...

omg I was thinking of that song too xd xd xd it rocks. (this is a pen)

And I guess that I was a bit off with the JET stuff... sweatdrop

Uhh random question to make the post relevant.
What's staff dress code like? Do they have to wear the school uniform or can they just wear somewhat formal clothing (i.e. pants and a polo)?

Business wear or business casual. Slacks and polos are fine, skirts or slacks for ladies. Staff don't have uniforms, at least I've never heard of a school where teachers have uniforms. Only the principal and vice principals wear suits regularly.

Thank ******** god...
Since the conversation has turned to uniforms a bit, for those here who have had some experience teaching in Japanese schools, did you notice any uniform violations? And if so, what kinds were they and what type of punishment did they receive?

I never really noticed any kids wearing their uniform wrong... We could have schools of 100+ kids coming to visit the hotel and they'd all look the same! It was hilarious because you could instantly tell who the Baseball team were because they would hang out in groups of about 14 and all had crew cuts.

We had one school from Tokyo where they had no uniform! They were SO cool! It was a really small school of about 20 and as we saw them arrive we all got REALLY excited and stood at the windows to wave at them! XD You'd have girls with enormous blonde hair and clothes that didn't look like they belonged on this planet! =D But they were the only school I've seen who didn't have uniform.

I can't remember where but I think I have heard before that some private schools in Japan don't have uniforms. Out of curiosity, did you ever overheard students complaining about uniforms? (Because all the Americans I know who went to schools that required uniforms were almost always complaining! xd )

I like the Japanese school or high school uniform for boys...it's really cool smile However the shoes/slippers they have to wear in classes called the "wabaki" is a bit funny and doesn't go with the uniform I feel lol smile

Can't say I have heard any Japanese kids complaining... To be fair, at the time when I saw a lot of schools my Japanese was pretty pants. But I'm pretty sure they love their uniforms... I'd often see them walking around in uniform on weekends and late in the evening. I even saw one girl meet a guy for a date in her uniform (I watched that whole date, it was adorable! ^-^ ). Also, one of my friends who was in her late 20's stole her little sisters school uniform when she went out.
I wouldn't have complained about their uniforms! They're so frigging cute! Americans don't normally wear school uniforms though, do they? (I'm basing this solely upon American High School drama's)... I had to wear a uniform at school...

Although, a couple of my male friends have complained about the military style jackets they had to wear back in Jr.High... I can imagine they'd chafe...

We usually don't wear uniforms.
Most schools are pretty lax about the dress code even.

We could never top the Japanese uniforms anyway. x_x

God bless you!

Yeah, in America, public schools usually don't have uniforms; it's the private schools that do. (I went to one because the public schools in the area I grew up in were really bad.) And the thing about uniforms of all the schools that were in the area I grew up in were just not flattering or comfortable. On anyone. gonk

What about in England? Is wearing uniforms common, uncommon?

Really common... Usually unflattering shirt, trousers or skirt, unflattering blazer and tie. Eurgh!

Really? Five years sounds like quite a while. Does that mean you like working as an ALT then? Did you go through the JET program? Or something else?
