Ciao, I'm 14 years old and 90% Italian.

My grandmother moved to the U.S. from Italy when she was 21, where she had my father.

I've never been to Italy, but I really really want to go. I already know a big chunk of the language so far.

Whenever I visit my grandmother, her house is packed with things she took with her from Italy, and she talks about how much she misses it. Sometimes, she even calls up her sister (who is still living there) and chats with her in Italian.

I'm hoping that I can go with my grandmother next summer with the money I earn from working, but it's highly unlikely. One can hope, I guess.

For those of you who are living in Italy, what is it like, and when might be the best time I pay a visit there?

Ciao <3.

I currently live in the states, but my family for the most part is still in Italy (other than my mom and brother). I'm only half, but Italian is the main language spoken in our house and we tend to follow the Italian mold more than the American.

I go back to Italy every year or so in the summer to visit - and am really excited to go back this summer. Two of my cousins had children (TIMETOSPOILEM).

If you get a chance to go to Italy, you definitely should. not only would it be nice to visit part of your heritage but it is also a really beautiful place. One of my favorite things about Italy is the heavy artistic influences and the architecture. Oh and the ocean of course. We're from Livorno, so we're right on the water.

Maybe I'm a tad biased (though I try not to be) but I find Italy to be more accepting as a whole since it's a more family orientated place. For instance, people tend to make rude comments towards me here about how I'm still living at home but am 21. Or that we are also living with my brother and his wife and kids temporarily. Over there, from my experience - nobody really cares.

I think any time is a good time to go, but it can get quite cold in the winter. So maybe the summer? It really depends on the area you plan to visit. heart

My mom also misses it a lot. When I finish med-school we're most likely moving overseas. She misses her family terribly, even more so now that my dads passed away. We don't really have anybody here in the US.

Wow! Grazie mille for the input, Shrii! ^^

Um... Do you know how much it costs for a round-trip plane ticket? sweatdrop

A few days ago when I was looking, the prices were in range of $1200-$1700. That's from Arizona to Italy though. The price tends to vary depending on your location. heart

:'D Dolce!

My father's side is completely Sasillian Italian, and my mom's is only half Roman.

I guess that makes me 75% Sasillian and 25% Roman. =P
