NaCl can be decomposed by electric current into its elements Na and Cl. what is the number of kilograms of sodium that can be obtained from 13.4 kg of NaCl?
You mean electrolysis? xP NaCl can only be decomposed in its molten form.

You use moles m'dear.

2 NaCl(l) --> 2 Na(l) + Cl2(g)

Therefore, the molar ratio is 2:2 which equals 1:1.

Molar mass of Na = 22.99g.
Molar mass of NaCl = 65.44g.

13.4kg of NaCl= 13400g NaCl.

Moles = mass/molar mass
= 13400/65.44
= 204.768 moles.

The molar ratio, as stated above, is 1:1.

So, 204.768 x 22.99 = 4707.61g

Which is approx. 4.7kg. ^-^

Btw, this is chemistry. Not really maths. whee

And you posted in the wrong forum. xp
