Actually my boyfriend has the same problem. He's Korean but we met in China, back when all I could speak with him was Chinese. So one night we were discussing what to eat for dinner and he tried to give some suggestions but because of his accent I had no idea what he was trying to say. He kept saying fish "yu" but pronouncing "yuwi" so I had no clue until a Chinese friend also in the room translated it. Haha, I thought "yuwi" was some chinese dish that I didn't know of.
