Welcome to Gaia! ::

I am a born and raised American. But I don't want to live here.
I was thinking of going to Europe. But with the world and how it is today idk.
I love cultures and meeting people. But people keep telling me, if you leave the country they'll shoot and/or torchure you. Heck that happens in America. It happens everywhere.

This is an honest question. And I would appretiate harsh comments to be left out and only understanding people to comment.

Do people from other countries really hate Americans so much? cry
yes they do. they spit on us but i have no idea y.....
Probably not all countries hate America, but the people themselves.
I've seen many threads about people disliking America and all, and that's because of the overconfident and cocky people living there.
I think you should try visiting other countries, and you'll see that not all Americans are hated. (depends how you act anyway.)
Yes, that is what I thought. But there are people that would kidnapp you if you even say you are from the United States. So I had a plan to get a Canadian accent and learn french razz But I don't want to hide who I am. And you're right, it is because of how some act.
Just thank the media, movies and politics.

sometimes I find myself feeling the same way! ^_^
Also a true blood American I have traveled a ton, been to over 10 countries, been to all 50 states...

Americans are hated for the sterotypes and how local media depicts them in other nations/countries. I have been cussed out while in france because I was american, i have been hugged because Im american in Australia, and Sri Lanka, and I have been stared at and whispered about in Greece and Italy. To be fair, I mostly traveled in large groups to many of these countries. Only a few was I in smaller groups/drew less attention. The places I found that welcomed me the most as an american were Amsterdam, Australia (mainly Queensland but I was there on a scuba expidition), Sri Lanka, and Canada! ^_^

hope that helped in some way shape or form..
also I am aware that I have random capitalization and grammar errors.. plz just deal with it. Im a lazy typer..

This surprises me. One of my friends is a dual-citizen, and he was apparently picked on a lot in both countries due to being associated with the other.

Personally, I don't like hearing American accents in real life. They're all over the media, and I've come to associate them with theatrics; it's jarring to hear real people speak that way.

Also, while I associate with and enjoy the company of many Americans over this series of tubes we call the internets, I still hold onto a stereotype of the general US public being ignorant, overweight, boorish, belligerent, fanatically-religious fruitcakes. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about obesity, the failing education system, the lack of socialised healthcare, the political clout of the conservative Bible Belt, and so forth. These are the first things that come to mind when someone tells me they're "American".

But individuals can't be judged by their nationality on any more than a superficial level. Most of the world's young, globally-conscious population would probably agree with me.

As long as you keep away from Islamic extremists, you should be okay. People will probably dismiss you at first, but if they get to know you, they'll get over the fact of your nationality.
Do you realize how big Europe is?
You want to move there, but you cant narrow it down better? =/

Wow, great answer.

And sadly, a lot of the stereotypes are true but not for everyone -_-
A Danish friend of mine is so surprised he doesnt have to explain things to me..like the difference between the EU and Europe, what countries Scandinavia consists of...

I think since more Americans see the reputation ruined, and how it effects them, has really changed people that would have been Xenophobes. Which is good, very good ^^

Who told you that load of bull? Maybe if you go to the Middle East, yeah, but Europe? No, you won't be shot and/or tortured.
Wow, this is the best group of opinions I have ever read! Which part of Europe? I don't know really. I havn't gottn a chance to research at all...And I really don't have a favorite place. My boyfriend and I were going to go to Spain but he actually...broke up with me today. But whatever. And you who said you don't really enjoy the American accent. There are many accents. I'm guessing you are talking about the poor slang and nonsence language of the culture?

To be honest I wanted to visit Turkey, (best friend lives there.) But I don't think I want to live there. I heard that woman don't get equal rights there.

Let me make some reccomendations ;3

My husband is from England, the UK is lovely!
I also really like the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Norway)

You guess wrong. I'm mainly talking about the rhotic dialects, with the strong "r" sound at the ends of words; but no American accent sounds real to me. According to my "common sense", they belong in the movies and on TV, and have no place in real life.

Just think of it like this.
Most Americans associate Australian accents with Steve Irwin.

What, Irwin? I thought the stereotype was Crocodile Dundee. Oh well. It's bullshit either way, they both have completely bizarre accents.
