My ethnic back ground is irish, so I love hearing irish gaelic being spoken.
It warms my heart.
I'm English so i don't think i have that effect as much. You're american right? A lot of Americans are either Irish or Jewish it seems. No-one cares about the English.

I have a friend from Ireland, she has a lovely accent haha.
I'll have a look at both languages...any language I don't understand warms my heart. xP

American, yes.
My irish family side came over in the 1800's. Meehan.
Heh.

I can always tell when someone says they're of irish decent... the irish families must've moved in everywhere lol. Maybe you should visit one day.
I knew a Meehan in primary school...now I only know Meegnahan now. haha.
Heh.
Well, I'm stereotypically obviously irish. Freckles, red hair, green eyes, stocky build, love my whiskey... Heh.

There are more scottish red heads than Irish.

LOL the whiskey thing ain't a genetic thing...my friend hates whiskey haha.
You sound really cute haha. I have some irish in me but it's not the bet genes in me...if i let them take me over I'd be short and stocky... =_+;

Okay, I'm the american stereotype of an irishman.
And lots of people think I'm attractive.
I can't be buggered to care, though.

I guess.
I DO have a great boyfriend now; one who respects and loves me, unlike my ex. Well, my ex apparently loves me, but she cheated on me with like, 10 different guys.
So...
Yeah.
Attractiveness doesn't help much.

Not in that sense... but I'm careful with who I go for. xD
I have a boyfriend who does all those things too..but I went through a lot of guys who are not that good. So it happens to everyone...and my face looks lie a mole's arse!

I beliiieve, though I cannot find any sources right now, that Norwegian is the most widely understood of the Scandinavian languages. That is, if you learn Norwegian, Danes and Swedes will be able to understand you much better than if you were a Dane speaking to Swedes and Norwegians, etc. Also, if you learn bokmål, you should be able to read Danish at a good level because the written forms of Norwegian and Danish are very similar.

Here're a couple more things:

Some discussion of the Scandinavian languages

Studying Norwegian vs. Studying German - Thought this would be interesting for you since you already said you know German.

EDIT: Found it. Norwegian is the ideal Scandinavian gateway language

i speak mandarin, it's not nearly as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. with practice and time, it's actually quite easy.
currently, i'm torn between japanese and vietnamese.

You should learn Swedish or Dutch!

Swedish is a really really nice language, I really want to learn it myself one day.

But first on the list is Spanish (used to learn it for five years), then japanese (3 years). Just forgot 99% of both.

I know this suggestion is probably going to be disregarded once I say what I'm about to say, but I'll say it anyway.
You should try Latin! I already know what you're going to say. It's a dead language; why learn it? It's also a pretty tough one to learn. Lots of tedious memorization. It's not as useless as one might think, though. It is the predecessor to all the modern Romance languages, after all. If you put in all the pain, sweat, tears and blood that it takes to learn Latin, then the rest come easily. Most of the Romance languages are, in many, many ways, just simplified Latin. Plus! Since you have at least a working knowledge of German, you'll already have a bit of headway; there are a number of grammatical aspects of German that are similar or identical to Latin.
Blah blah blah, enough sugar coating. It's really up to you whether you find Latin interesting enough or not to learn. I am just a complete nerd and think that it's very interesting; It's like a very intricate puzzle. I've gone through learning it and now use it to take notes on how to use Hellenistic Greek. Super nerdy, I know. cool Furthermore, I say that because one day I hope to find someone who is as interested in the language as I am. I'd like to be a teacher someday, but finding people who care is definitely harder than teaching the language itself. I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise, since most of the people on Gaia are kids or teenagers... But anyway! rofl

Yes, Latin would be cool! You should consider it! But if you are deterred because of its striking difficulty, I wouldn't blame you.
Go with Finnish. It's pretty friggin' hard to learn, but when you learn it, you'll know what depression and melancholy sounds like. Swedish is also nice, but I'm going to enforce the known stereotype where all Finns hate Swedish and say "booo!"

(it has nothing to do with the fact that I just can't learn Swedish no matter how hard I've tried and now feel the need to compensate my own failures by saying the same thing about Swedish, that the fox said about the grapes)
