GENERAL FAQ

What are Gaia Homes?

Gaia Homes is another method of customization presented by Gaia. Like the Avatar, Gaia Homes is more of a form of expression or identity than a game.

What can I do with Gaia Homes?

1.- Decorate it to be your home or something else, many have spend a lot and other a little of gold trying to built a imitation of several business (coffee shops, bars, Movie Theaters etc...)




2.- You can invite and gather with friends in your neighbourhood or towns 2 to do any activity, you like and always taking in count the respect to the T.O.S.

3.-Gaia Homes can be entered in the Housing Arena just like how Avatar's are entered into the Avatar Arena.

Can I set the privacy/ lock of my home?

Yes, you can.
You can do so by opening your smartphone and selecting your housing options.
There you will find
1.- Don't lock
2.- Don't lock for friends
3.- Lock (only me )

What happens if I upgrade my home and then change the style of it?

In fact nothing, but sometimes you might notice that floor do not cover all the space and continue being little home size, give a bit of time to the system also if doesn't change you can always report it at the link provided after.

Upgrade: gives a "bit" of space to the home interior

Style: Change the way, your home looks from towns.

How can I invite others to my home?

One of the way is copy and paste the url shown on the house arranger (Factory Shop).

Though, rarely it will redirect to the users' own home, but as said before is rare.

Now, another way is to tell them, to visit your neighbourhood they can search for you in one of taxi's option or click on your name if you do appear in the list.

How to enter my home in arenas?

First of all you have to present a decent decoration and of course a concept and a proper description of what did you wanted to make in your house.



Then, go to Homes arenas

Manual Route Guide :

Forums tab>Art arena> click on homes tab.

Then in the section of links look for Submit link fill the area and then click.

But be sure to check the preview of your house at your right screen and also that you can submit.

Does submitting have any cost?

No, they are currently free

Can I submit whatever I want in the arenas?

Technically yes,but try to avoid inappropriate content and hire goons.

What do I win if I submit my home?

House arena rules

The only prize given for the Housing Arena is eternal fame and glory. For the Avatar Arena, the fame and glory comes with 50,000 gold for first place, 30,000 gold for second place, 20,000 gold for third place, and 10,000 gold for everyone from fourth place to tenth place.

Can I discuss home arenas competition somewhere?

Yes, you can do so, though in the past were rumours that it was going to be removed due lack of usage. but haven't happened so far. (2013)

Moving to towns 2!!

What can you explain about the new bar?
Related to homes? I will tell you:
That we will find useful the pathfinding and the smartphone tools.

How does this tools work?Credits to :Sisky also this part of the info can be found in Gaia help section

Pathfinding: It does help you zip from one side of the screen to the other in Towns 2 and homes really quickly by creating a path from your current location on the screen to a different location on the screen that is determined by where you click your mouse.

To use this feature, you need to do the following:
a) Locate the "Pathfinding" tool at the bottom of the Towns 2 screen. This is the little icon that looks like a green arrow in a green circle.
b) Click this icon to activate the "Pathfinding" feature. You should see the icon get brighter green when activated.
c) Once you have turned on the"Pathfinding" feature, you now just have to click the Towns 2 space with your cursor, and you should speed through the space in no time!



Smartphone: Is a one stop tool, besides of other option you can find housing options and landlord options ( if you are one, otherwise you will see it faded)

How the move will happen ( How I can move my home from towns 1 to towns 2?)
Once towns 1 is taken down, you will have to visit town 2 and look for the boat (southeast) once there, click over the house option button and it will give you the option to select the place you would like to live at towns 2. Aekea's robots will move and settle them for you. Not need to remove or anything or pay your own moving, leave that for real life. (See images below for more references Fast click )

Will this have any cost to the owner

As far as I know the cost of housing will remain the same, but no charge for moving your pre existing house to the new towns.

What can we expect once in towns 2

-Tutorial
-No ZIP codes anymore
-New styles, "new houses"
-New areas
ie: Gambino will have a house style different to Aekea or Barton.
-housing option being more convenient to the user.
-Availability to have your own neighbour with 5 friends of your choosing or join someone else.
-Availability to be the entire landlord of certain region. (meaning to live alone without neighbours)
-Bugs, trash, gift boxes, rocks...just as towns 1
-Towns 1 will disappear (it is uncertain if town 2 will be only called "towns" after that.


I don't want to return to Gambino's port every time I do want to go to my neighbourhood, is there a way to skip that part?
Yes, there is!
You can bookmark it. Just click add to favorites in your smartphone.

I'm searching for a friend but they do not appear neither in the list nor in the searching, why does that happens?
In mostly of the cases, that does mean that they haven't placed a home or do not have any at all.


What happens if I do enter thru Shop and then leave? Why?
You may enter to home editor but if you get out you will land in towns 1, because it hasn't been taken down, I do believe that once it is done you will land in your neighbourhood.

When I do go to my home editor the exterior can be seen all white
Don't worry is a known issue and in my opinion is just the first symptom that town 1 is disappearing to give chance to town 2.

I have stuck items in housing location what should I do?
Some cases get fixed when you clear your cache, but if that doesn't work then
you should report in this thread

What is the difference between the old housing to the new one?

1.-The ways to enter it, are now quite separated therefore the loading suppose to be less troublesome and quick in mostly of the browsers.

Before:

Once clicked on "design my home" in the shop you use to land in the "very, very, very, very old inventory arranger and from there you had to click in design my home by opening the "home vault."

Now:

You may visit the shop and click over "design my home" but this time and if you have all your items inside the home vault you will go directly to "home's editor"

2.- Bottoms are more viable and understandable in the screen.
3.- You do not need to have installed Adobe Shockwave and by that you will not have any permission pop ups,

Now:
Is used the Flash software.
4.-Some items are interactive. (TV, Toasters) (look hosing item list)
5.-You do not longer have limitations about item positions by this I mean:

Before:
Everything was settle in a squarer perimeter leaving some objects oddly positioned.

Now:
You can place it correctly and also you will have message bubbles telling you what you are about to do.

6.- There is not a notification that your home has been saved, though it is, once you make another change the bottom will be available again.

7.- More expansion is available. Cost: 10K if you are in middle home.

8.- Now,technically speaking, they did rewrite all the feature because the last code was done in 2006, keeping the graphics and some of the save and load data for the house, but everything else was from scratch so It wouldn't stop working.New, code allows to introduce video and interactive items, therefore the demand of the users.

9.- In the past you didn't have control over your neighbourhood, now you do receive petition to be your neighbour or have to make one also you can invite your friends in a very easy way. (not links required just a invitation from your smartphone on landlord options)

10.- You can now enter your home from town 2 (look for the taxi at the southeast of it)

Some of the equipable items were able to be placed in the house, now why not?
As mentioned before there is new coding running, meaning that these items and others, will be introduced slowly according to the tune speed.

How do I clear my home with the new update and then move it to my inventory?

NOTE 1: Generally those loading for the first time their house after the update will find that everything has been removed plus an additional message screen. Their items will be in the house inventory to be placed or removed completely.

The process is a bit more complicated but still familiar to everyone.

First of all, if you have items inside of your homes feature clean it by clicking in the "Clear Room" in the bottom left of your screen and then save.
After that, go to you inventory arranger and by using the Ctrl+click drag all the items to your general inventory and voila! those are the steps.

NOTE 2: No, there's is not a link to clean it, without loading the feature, anymore.

Can I have more than 100 items for house?
Yes, you can and you do not need to put them in the arranger so far.

Out of curiosity how many items does housing has?
Over 1000 and these might include not exclusives

Is there a way to create walls?
For the moment there isn't, but you can use replacements, yes replacements as rugs (loft idea and different textures in the floor) and Bookshelves.(Though they do cover to much space, imo)

What about the versions?
Versions helps to install "patch" in the system so users can experiment less glitches and bugs. i.e

Getting to the place

One way is by going throw "my gaia" tab



In this case, I have the feature created by Gaia "Power user menus" to active it just go to "Gaia labs"

This "my gaia" short cut will redirect you, to the Housing commission managed by Bludeau.

The second way to is by scrolling down the homes feature in the "Gaia navigation bar" and select "Design my home".

And finally, is by going to towns 2, but I warn you that is going to be a large trip... smile Just kidding.
Just go to the southeast area by the pier restaurant and look for the taxi then click over the home image as reflexed below.



From there you will have some panels that will explain you what is housing (you can disable this by clicking in "not show anymore" option)

Then a panel that will show a list of your friends and the towns they have selected and also you will be able to search for those that aren't your friends or do not appear in the list's scroll down.
Also you will have to option to simply explore.

LOCATING AND BUILDING

Go to towns 2 and look for the southeast area, click on the taxi option (house icon)(as shown above)
Inside panels you will have the option to select the style of home you would like to have, then the towns where you like to live (Gambino, Aekea, Durem and Barton)

Once you have finish the selection you will be driven to your own neighbourhood, where will be able to select the place where you want your home to be or change it without any cost and always having in mind that there is a vacancy even if you are a landlord.

NOTE:
If you aren't entirely sure about the style you can change it, though, there is an style for each town so...
You can NOT have Gambino's style in Durem's and so on. But you can change your neighbourhood although there is the danger to lose the landlordship if you chose to live with a friend.

DECORATING STEP BY STEP

First of all, be sure that you have your items in your home's vault, if you do not have it, go to your inventory arranger and drag them to your vault.
NOTE:
Now-a-days is not necessary.



After that, you will have to click design my home.
Now, if you already have all your stuff in the vault you only need to click in design home at the factory Shop you immediately will be prompted to the loading page.

You do not need to install anything and you do not longer need Adobe Shockwave software, therefore you will not see any permission pop up during the loading

Interaction with Objects

Drag any item from the inventory and place it, then if you want to move, rotate, remove or cancel you simply have to click over it.
Also you will be able to turn on /off the TVs and toaster, to give some examples in the item list will point out which are.



Also once you are moving an item you sometimes will be able to see a message bubble telling what you are about to do.


Some new tweaks to decorate more effectively

1.-Turn off stacking-if you want to place something behind a table or other object and it keeps trying to stack on top of an item instead, hold down the shift key while dragging.

2.-Move floor items with the arrow keys-If you click an item that sits on the floor, and then close the pop-up menu (i.e. press cancel) you can then slide that piece of furniture along the floor

3.-Adjusting items on tables-If an item is stacked on top of a table, shelf, dresser, etc you can nudge that piece into place by selecting it and using the arrow keys. If you slide it too far it may fall to the floor!

4.- Another way to turn your lights off is Ctrl+N
Notes: In some Pcs/ laptop might cause to open another browser window too.


Expanding

Your home is set to be small at the start but you can choose to make it bigger the first change will cost you 5,000 then if you want to make it larger you will have to pay 10,000.
To do so, just go to shops are and select the Faktori and select "go to my house" at your left screen below other option inside Bildeau image frame.

If you had an issue with your house shrinking today, your house size has been reset to the correct dimensions.

If you had an issue with your house shrinking before today, you will should find a pm with a refund notice.

You can upgrade your house from the homes page
Gaia homes

If the panel is disabled, just choose a style, and click "place my home for me", and then upgrade your house to the desired size.

This happens because there is a mix between the old code and the new, so if you enter the house throw My gaia> house you will see the new code and if you enter by towns you will see the old code

My Gaia - House page update

Hey guys, wanted to give you a heads up that over the next few days the house page under My Gaia will be modified to bring it in line with the housing update in Towns 2.

The items that will be changed are as follows:

Removing home creation from page. (you can do this in Towns 2)
Removing Change Style, and Relocate options. (these options available in Towns 2 housing options)
Removing Lock Home setting in Account Preferences. (option available in Towns 2 housing options)
Remove Chat Permission on homes page. (option available in Towns 2 housing options)

When Towns 2.0 are finally finish there will be the possibility to custom the outside of the house and have owned area, with the main objective to be a social area.

Housing Update

They have made a few updates to the houses and the housing editor. The biggest change, and by far the most requested is that you can now place equipable items in the house. You can place up to 100 non-housing items in your house by dragging them to the house icon in the inventory arranger. Other updates include kitchen cabinets that align, and the television has been fixed so that it can be turned off.

Missing Housing Items
We ran into some old code and Gaia Houses currently appears to have "lost" some items. Don't worry - these items are still in your housing inventory. These items are not lost... just currently not visible.

We are working to get this resolved, but it might be a while -- this is some old code!

Update 07/11/11
There have been reports about conversation bubbles go in vertically way in town and ZOMG but it doesn't affect the homes features (if you go inside the home, to be more exactly). This has nothing to do with Gaia, is a glitch coming from using the latest version of Adobe Flash. So is recommended to change it to the previous version to do so:

You can get the uninstaller, as well as the installer from:

The download link is a zip file, and inside of it are debugger and release versions of Flash for all operating systems.

There is also an additional issue with Chrome, where the arrow keys don't work. Google has provided a workaround in the following thread:
