Hi, this is my guide on how to make breedable/changing pets. Now, before you begin, I want to clear something up. You need to read the entire guide before beginning. Otherwise, you're likely to mess up completely. I want to thank you for your time. Also, Just for a tad of advice, you may want to know that everything updated as of February 20th, 2010, is underlined. :3 Some things have been replaced or cut out completely.

Drawing the Lineart

Lineart is one of the most important things in a B/C pet. It's like the skeleton on a body. The entire thing would just fall apart without it. As the lineartist, you are most important. Without the art, the shop is nonexistant. Color is important as well, but not nearly as much. If you have something in mind already, great! Go ahead and draw. However, try to avoid the following:
● Wolves. Too many of these shops already! We're sick of them.
● Flying cuddle kitties. It's been done already. A LOT.
● Any kind of wild cat or dog. It's been done too much. Sure, yours is cute, but there are so many others like them. In fact, there's even a shop called "Not Another Cat Shop!"
● Dragons. Everyone tries to make them, and usually they end up ugly anyway.
So unless you have an amazing concept to make up for it, try to avoid these animals.

When drawing your sketch, remember to be patient. One little piece of art for a shop took and entire day for me just to make it turn out alright. Remember, an artist's greatest critic is themselves, because they see everything. If you notice what's wrong with your art, so will your customers. In this way, if you see ANYTHING you don't like about your art, change it -- after the first pet is sold, and you change the art, your shop can be considered inconsistent.

Now, once you get your art completed, it's time to scan it into your computer. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER INK WITH MARKER THEN SCAN IT IN. Unprofessional and hard to color, and to tell you the truth, lazy. Get a bamboo tablet if you need to ink like so, but NEVER EVER EVER even attempt to make good art that way.

Finally, you can inkorz. Don't know how? This.
Scanning into Microsoft Paint
Okay, so you're all done with the lineart. Whoopdee-doo. Now you get to scan in into MS Paint. If you use Lexmark printers, preview it first. Now you have this picture on your computer. That cannot be uploaded, so you'll need to copy the page. Use Control+Print Screen to copy the entire page. Then go to MS Paint and paste it using the select tool. Then go to another tool, and click back to the select tool. This makes it possible to select only a certain part of the image. You select your lineart, then open up a new Paint. Paste your lineart and crop out any unwanted parts, and you're all set!
If you did chose to ink the art digitally...
If you chose to ink the art digitally, you zoom into the lineart 8x and go to the line tool. Make your line tool about as big as the line on the art, then go over it. Simple as that. Tablets are a HUGE help here! Also, if you DO own a professional program like Adobe Photoshop, use that. The lineart will be much more stable and smooth.

After your lineart is on Paint, you can go ahead and upload it onto Photobucket.
Finding a good colorist

Are you good at coloring? Skip this step! Oh, and please, tell me how to...

When you have it all uploaded, go to the Main minishops forum. Then set up a thread about the colorist. You can also include things for names, assistance, etc. You should offer a great reward for the other things, like an MC, but for the colorist you can offer a percentage, like 20%. I offered 50% and got tons of people. Remember, Gaians are greedy. So, once you find the perfect colorist, it's time to set up shop.
Setting up shop
You need at least two pages in your shop. Personally, there isn't much to explain here. You could take a look at an experienced shop, like Jokoa` of Blessings of Shikoku, and use their navigation to push you up. Be sure to let your colorist have a post or two. Lastly, open up shop! Make sure you keep bumping it to the first page, but don't spam! Write random things, or chat with your colorist. You can have an opening flatsale, and ask for affiliates. Chances are, you'll be popular in no time!
How to make your pets breed and evolve
This will probably be the shortest post. So, be sure to listen!

Breeding
All you really do is provide an egg to each breeding owner. You choose your rules and regulations, but be sure to only have a limited number of slots, otherwise lots of people will be breeding, and that's all you and your colorist will be doing.

Evolving
Wow, you made it as far as to evolve your pets? Well, the most easiest way is to hire someone good with programming and such, or use Photoshop or one of those things.

But some people don't have that, so another way is to upload one pet over another. There used to be an action for this, I'm not sure if there still is; however if you can find out how, that's easiest for people without other programs.

One last way, is to either PM or post the next form of evolution. I usually choose this one, because if you tell people to wait and you'll post it, then people will stay and chat in your shop. Then people will see that people go there, and more will come. Next thing you see is lots of people in your shop. Just be careful of the number of files in your comp, so be sure to delete the old as the new is being posted.
FAQ
mule977
I know the FAQ isn't ready yet, so I'm sorry if I am not supposed to ask questions yet, and this might seem like a really stupid question but...How do you upload over a photo on photobucket so that it is an evolving pet?

Thanks HisuiNekome for clearing this up:
Quote:

basically the way you do that with photobucket is that you just delete the original image

for example you delete pet1.jpg

you then just have to save the grown stage as the same file name.

then you upload it again and then refresh, and it will be at the next level
