What exactly did Johnny Gambino do that got him killed?
Who the hell are the Von Helson?
Why was Ian a blond and now has black hair?
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE?!

WELCOME TO ZEEK SLIDER'S PLOT SUMMARY THREAD

Let's face it, the Gaia plot is so convoluted and random that making sense out of the chaos would be an exercise in insanity. Thankfully, I’m not the most sane of people and have taken on such a task. Why, you may ask? Because Gaia needs to know what the hell is going on! Oh, sure, you may have Gaia 9’s Cindy Donovinh reporting on important events as they happen, but even she can’t make sense of the history of what’s been going on since Gambino’s ill-fated Halloween party.

Main Plot Summary
One Halloween night, the rich billionaire Johnny K. Gambino invited the entire population of Gaia to his mansion for a Halloween bash. Unknown to everyone at the time, Gambino had constructed a laboratory underneath his mansion and was experimenting on a gaining true immortality. That night, something went wrong with an experiment that became known as the G-Virus, which turned innocent lab rabbits into the blood thirsty Grunnies and would spread throughout Gaia turning anyone they bit into zombies. The situation grew beyond their control, and Gambino’s secret lab of G-CORP was forced out of hiding in an attempt to kill the project. They ultimately had to resort to setting off a contained explosion that would destroy as much of the project as possible, and subsequently the majority of the LabTechs who were all infected. Among those who escaped alive were Johnny Gambino himself and the mysterious Labtech X who was supplying the cure to zombie state.

In the aftermath of the G-Virus outbreak, Johnny learned that his only son Gino may have died in the explosion. Temporarily homeless and heartbroken, he stumbled across an image that showed Gino being thrown out of the mansion as it exploded. Gambino spent most of that year’s Christmas traveling between his home of Gambino Island to Barton and Durem in search of Gino. His search was almost a failure, but as he was about to commit suicide over the loss of his son, Gino suddenly appeared before him. But he wasn’t the same. Gino did not remember who he was or even who his father is.

Taking advantage of the situation, Gambino’s long-time rivals The Von Helsons of Durem decided to host the next big party in Gaia for the entire population. During this event, it was revealed that the Von Helson Twins were the ones responsible for brainwashing Gino in an attempt to overthrow Gambino’s financial legacy and social reign. Afterwards, Gambino began constructing on his new mansion back on Gambino Island.

But something was off as the mansion slowly became a massive tower that could be seen for miles. Gambino had clearly lost it since the Von Helsons were able to take away his heir. In that insanity, he injected himself with the G-Virus in the hope that the properties in it would produce the perfect heir. Luckily, at the height of his insanity, Gino’s memory came back. But timing wouldn’t be on his side, because the moment it came back, Gambino had been shot by a sniper positioned from Durem’s clocktower.

Upon his assassination, Gambino fell into the ocean. Gino jumped in after his father, and the two of them fused together due to the G-Virus. In a symbolic twist of fate, Gambino’s massive tower also fell… on top of the Von Helson Mansion in Durem due to its height. The event was thought to have killed both households in a single blow, leaving Gaia without a dominating family of wealth.

Some time later, Gino was found washed ashore on a beach along Gambino Island by local shopkeeper Sasha and Barton shop owner Ian. News spread throughout Gaia that a Gambino had survived, and Sasha took it upon herself to take care of him to full recovery. Ian, who has had strong feelings of attraction towards Sasha, saw this as a sign of Gino winning her love and affection, which manifested in visible jealousy. Upon his full recovery, Gino did everything within his power to impress and win over Sasha’s affection, including adopting the alter-ego of The Masque and performing heroic deeds, specifically saving her from the crossfire that would have resulted from a holiday rivalry between Jack the spirit of Halloween and a Santa Mech. Ian’s jealousy grew vengeful at this point, and when Gino was able to secure a kiss from Sasha on New Years Eve, Ian was arrested and charged with the arson of Gambino Mansion. Why? His change in behavior made him suspect number one in the eyes of the law.

The trial resulted in Ian being declared innocent and falsely accused. However, the sniper who shot Gambino was waiting in the shadows and took his shot against Ian as he was coming out of the courthouse in Durem. This resulted in a mirroring series of events where Sasha would visit Ian as he recovered while Gino got visible jealous of the attention she was giving Ian. Gino’s rage was so intense that he promptly challenged Ian to a death match on top of the cliffs along Gold Beach. It was a one-sided battle as Ian refused to fight Gino and willingly sacrificed himself as a sign of his love for Sasha.

Suddenly, Labtech X appeared with a syringe. He declared that he would finally show the world what Gino really is and injected him with the liquid. The injection resulted in a mutation forcing both Gino and Labtech X off the cliff and into the ocean. The formula was also extremely unstable and caused a nuclear-size explosion! The results of this explosion were as follows: the fusion of Johnny and Gino from long ago had been neutralized and Johnny Gambino was revived as such, Gino returned to the more innocent-yet-cowardly nature had been know for before his brainwashing by the Von Helson, Labtech X was supposedly killed in the blast, and said blast also attracted the attention of traveling aliens known as the Zurgs.

As time passed and several isolated events occurred, the population was wondering what happened to Ian. He was never seen again after the event that happened on the cliffs, and his talking cat Rufus continued to manage the shop. As it turns out, Ian went into hiding on Gambino Island due to a mysterious condition that became harder to suppress. Gambino, with the help of family friend Edmund, has been using G-CORP to find a cure for Ian’s condition. Ian was their only test subject. They were successful in finding a cure and proceeded to mass produce it before it was too late.

Meanwhile, in Durem, Edmund was having a late-night tea when he was shot at by the same sniper that took out Gambino and Ian. His experience with intense situations of combat allowed him to escape unharmed and stealthily make his way to Gambino’s Mansion. It was revealed that all three of them have become targets and that they all knew who was trying to kill them.

The Von Helsons. Vladimir and his heir Louie had taken it upon themselves to reestablish the Von Helson legacy upon learning of the events that have happened against their family. Specifically the kidnapping and hiding of Vlad’s second heir to his legacy, his son Damian. And the twins? They survived the destruction of Von Helson Mansion thanks to one simple little family trait: they’re vampires. Vlad hired Zhivago, a vampire gun-for-hire, to kill Gambino in revenge as well as anyone else Vlad didn’t favor. It was Zhivago who originally shot Gambino, shot Ian, and attempted to assassinate Edmund. Since that failed, Vlad decided to strike Gambino where it hurt him the most and kidnapped Gino. The plan was to hold Gino for ransom in exchange for Damian. However, Gino was completely out of the loop as to what was going on between the two families. In an effort to psychologically break him, Zhivago revealed the truth about the long-standing family feud. (See Backstory Section)

Louie took it upon himself to find his brother through his own methods, but ended up stumbling upon and falling in love with Moira in the process. (NOTE: This portion of the plot was done through CGI animation. link) Though he was successful in his personal mission to find his brother Ian, his relationship with Moira was frowned upon by his father, who saw it as a sign of weakness and ordered Zhivago to have Louie killed. Vlad also learned of Gambino and G-CORPS current endeavor to produce a cure for vampirism via Zhivago’s spying and tracking of Ian. He saw this at an act of genocide and a great battle began to brew.

At the climax of this conflict at the Von Helson Manor located outside of Durem, Louie confronted Vlad and demanded that he step down as leader of the family. Naturally, Vlad refused and a battle between the two ensued. Unknown to either party, two snipers were waiting for their shots in the shadows. One of them was Zhivago. The other was Edmund. In the end, Vlad was ultimately killed when Zhivago missed his intended target shortly after Edmund successfully shot and injected the cure into him.

With Louie taking the mantle of leader of the vampires and the choice of becoming human now a choice rather than a mandate, the balance of power seem to have quieted down for quite some time. During this time of peace, several different races came out of hiding. Merfolk, centaurs, orcs, even a race of dark elves. Even a few demigods came down to mingle with the mortals of Gaia. One could almost say that it was a time of peace.

But not for Gambino. He became distraught by the fact that he hasn’t seen or heard from Gino in some time and began to worry. Edmund assured him one night at his Durem estate that Gino is capable of taking care of himself and is safe. In actuality, Gino was embarrassed to show his face around Gaia due to a former demigod possessing his body and parading him around the world naked and is in hiding out of shame. (See Sub-Plot section)

Upon his return home to his home, Gambino was shot and killed by Zhivago who was wielding a magic glove given to him by his new employer. Edmund learned of his assassination and attempted to find Gino, fearing his young life may be in danger as well. Gino was indeed caught, but only at the hands of the Overseer and Sentinel, two former demigods who were lucky enough to secure themselves an airship. Gino also successfully hijacked the ship for a soul-searching adventure through passive means, joining Overseer and Sentinel’s own personal quest to become demigods again.

Meanwhile, Zhivago has been questioning his current assignment by his new employer and decided to opt out of it in person. His new employer is the leader of the dark elves Don Kuro, who has a vendetta against the Gambinos that makes the one the Von Helsons had look like a hill-billy squab fight. Don Kuro was displeased with Zhivago wanting to pass on his current assignment to kill Gino after he successfully killed Gambino with no remorse. Don Kuro then displays the true nature of the glove he gave Zhivago for his assignments, which has a remotely controlled shocking feature to force the wearer into submission.

Also meanwhile, Edmund’s search for Gino ended up being sidetracked when one of Gaia’s gods was attacked. With the help of the magician Brennivn and several thousands of Gaia’s population, Edmund was able to save the giant jellyfish-like God of Spoilage from death, much to his shock and embarrassment.

Some time later, Gino and his party discovered another person on their airship. It was the ship’s mechanic that Brennivn forgot to mention about, who introduced himself by the nickname of “Ladyhands.” He had been working on the ship since Brennivn handed it over to the former demigods the previous Christmas. Ladyhands joined the crew as they made their way to their fist stop, a forest demigod called Peath. Upon finding the giant pill bug god, everyone learned of a plot to bring harm against the Gaian pantheon of gods by the vampire race.

In an effort to help defend the remaining members of the pantheon, Sentinel and Overseer decided to seek out a higher-ranking god in a hope that their actions may win them a favor to restore their demigod status. Upon landing in the mythical slum of Dref Dur, Sentinel and Overseer learned of Gambino’s death and decided to tell Gino of their discovery. Gino, eager for adventure, ventured into Dref Dur and got lost. He shortly encountered a gang and was rescued by an individual calling him “Billy.” He clearly knew who Gino really was and knew that he shouldn’t be out and about in Derf Dur. The stranger introduced himself a Meili, the god that Sentinel and Overseer were looking for. Meili took it upon himself to escort Gino safely out of Dref Dur, but was stuck at an impasse due to the sudden appearance of Nicolae admiring a local’s gold knife. While he claims to just be admiring the scenery of the city, Nicolae is actually there as part of Don Kuro’s back up assassination team against Gino, lead by Crecento.

Meanwhile, Zhivago learned of Gino’s location from his employer and gave chase as well. Brennivn and Edmund also learned of Gino’s location when Brennivn received a docking bill from the ship he loaned Sentinel and Overseer. Luckily, Edmund was able to arrive at Dref Dur first.

Back at the airship, Overseer and Sentinel discover that Gino has gone missing. As they were leaving to search for Gino, Ladyhands warns them that Derf Dur has been overrun by vampires! While debating on if rescuing Gino would be worth the trouble, Edmund boarded their ship and forcefully recruited the trio for his rescue attempt.

As Meili escorted Gino to his apartment, Gino delivered the messages that Sentinel and Overseer were originally questing to deliver. The news that the two former demi-gods wanting Meili to restore their powers sent him into a rant where he partially revealed to Gino that Jack, the Gaia Spirit of Halloween, was just a messenger from a higher being sent to strip Sentinel and Overseer of their powers. Meili also partially revealed why everyone has been trying to kill the Gambinos, but was interrupted by Zhivago who was waiting for his shot from within the shadows of Meili’s large appartment. A battle over Gino ensued between Zhivago and Meili that resulted in the powerful God being killed by the mystical glove attached to the vampire assassin.

Edmund was able to rescue Gino and fend off Zhivago before he took his shot at Gino’s life. Gino, then, promptly fainted at the sight of Meili’s lifeless body as Edmund called for Sentinel and Overseer to pick them up from the top of the apartment building.

During the flight back home, Gino began to suffer from a fever dream. In it, he saw his father and a family of Gambino clones welcoming him home. While having dinner (in his dream), the image of his late father began to reinforce the old concern that Gino may not be as strong of an heir to the Gambino name as he had hoped.

After waking up from the nightmare, Edmund was about to update Gino on Zhivago’s murder of his father. But Gino revealed that he knew about the murder, but he didn’t know how he knew. Eventually, Gino realized that this time, his father wouldn’t be coming back, and it was time for him to grow up. At first, Edmund protested, but he eventually let Gino settle the conflict how he wanted to.

With no place to go, Overseer and Sentinel decided to take the ship and crew to vist Hephaes, a powerful god who actually meets with Gaia to determine the balance of nature. However, when they approached the mechanized deity, they were attacked! Hephaes did so thinking that Sentinel and Overseer were imposters sent to kill him. Edmund attempted to abandon the ship with Gino during the attack, but Hephaes recognized Gino and announced his uncompromising devotion to the Gambino bloodline. Using this to their advantage, Overseer and Sentinel asked (through Gino) to meet with Gaia personally. Hephaes then sent them back to Gambino Island, stating that Gaia will find them there upon their return.

In Durem, Zhivago updated Don Kuro on the assassination of Meili but his failure to kill Gino. Disappointed in the result, Don Kuro ordered the destruction of Edmund’s shop while Louie was running it in Edmund’s absence. A covert spy was sent to the shop, but Louie spotted him just in time to save several innocent Gaians from a package bomb left behind in the store. Some time after the bombing, the Durem PD released a police sketch of the suspect and asked the Gaia Community for any tips that lead to an arrest. After a few days, the police arrested Faris, a dark elf working for Don Kuro who was hiding in plain sight as a Gaia user.Unfortunately, Farris was killed while in custody and his body dragged off by an unknown associate.

One night on the way back to Gambino Island, Nicolae and Crecento snuck on to the ship and held Gino at gunpoint. Microseconds before Crecento pulled the trigger, Nicolae threw off his aim and caused the gun to shoot at the ceiling. Gino took this opportunity to knock out Crecento with a mop bucket. Edmund quickly appeared and made Nicolae surrender by pressing his sword against the traveler’s neck. As Ladyhands tied up Crecento to throw him into a make-shift brig, Edmund discovered a hidden knife on Nicolae. Edmund interrogated both of them to discover that Nicolae took the murder contract for the financial gain, but had no desire to kill Gino. Crecento, on the other hand, had a reason to murder Gino.

Meanwhile, Zhivago organized a private meeting with Cordell, Don Kuro’s sister and right-hand. Deep in the catacombs of Durem, Zhivago explained that while the dark elves have been supplying the vampire race with easy money and easy blood to drink, they were starting to lose loyality to the Don’s cause. The bombing in Durem occurred with Louie still in the store, which rubbed the vampire race the wrong way. Zhivago vowed to kill Gino in order to get out of his contract with Don Kuro, but as soon as that happened, he would turn on the dark elves. Don Kuro regained his strength and vowed to take back that which they lost due to their mother’s affair.

During the month of Halloween, a vampire named Ambrosia visited Louie and asked for him for help against the Dark Elves since the humans trust him. Louie explained that he had to earn that trust but sent some “friends” to help the cause.

Meanwhile, Don Kuro made Franco his new Luetenant after revealing that he knew about Cordell’s secret meeting with Zhivago. Sensing her doubt in his leadership, Luca/Don Kuro revealed that his plan was to revive an exiled god called Nyx. The only thing preventing Nyx’s return, and eventual merger with Luca’s body, was the fact that Gino was still alive.

Some time later, a group of vampires attacked the Dark Elf hideout and failed to do any real impact. While Gaia 9 News was reporting on the event, it was suddenly reported that Gino Gambino was killed while traveling around the world with the Oversear and Sentinel. However, Cordell and Franco were not convinced that the news was true.

Luca, having become very weak, instigated the merger with Nyx through a gambit that would stall the final act until it is confirmed that Gino is dead. If the merger were to fail, the event would still play into Nyx’s favor due to several celestial signs announcing his return to Gaia. One of these signs was the shadow of the moon cracking like a ceramic plate, as witnessed by the Oversear and Sentinel. This event also caused the two former demi-Gods to expedite their quest to restore their powers.

As news propagated of Gino's "death," Edmund supplied staged photos of Gino's corpse to be delivered to the Dark Elves by Crecento as solid proof that the rumors were true. In order to make it more believable, a blood-stain shirt was given with the photo as well. Luca had his doubts on the legitimacy of the proof but accepted them as a sign he should start the ritual. The gambit was imperfect, resulting in Nyx and Luca fusing into the same body, which worked out well for Nyx's ultimate goal.

The airship weighed anchor within viewing range of Gambino island, where a meeting between Oversear, Sentinel, Gino, and the goddess Gaia took place. The three were transported to another dimension, to Gaia's domain. Upon revealing herself to the party, Gaia confirmed that Oversear and Sentinel were to remain mortal and no longer possess their demi-God status or powers. This angered Sentinel, who was immediately banished from Gaia's presence. Oversear was more accepting of Gaia's decision and was rewarded with the mortal name of Marius. Gaia then turned her attention to Gino and explained why he's been the center of attention and why so many have been trying to kill the Gambino bloodline. (See Backstory & History section - Gaia's Children) Fearing Nyx's rage, Gaia charges Gino with saving the world...

Gino's bloodline powers would grow as long as the spirit of humanity continued to resist Nyx's ambition. This was proven in the past when Johnny Gambino would reshape the world based on the strength of humanity's will, for better or for worse. Concerned that he was not up to the same level as his father, Gino asked Gaia to just strip the powers of Nyx like she did with Sentinel and Marius/Oversear. She explained that she is unable to do that since Nyx is one of her own children and their powers manifest within themselves; they are not something held by their owners. Gaia then left Gino with a letter from his father.

Shortly after returning to the mortal world, Gino collapsed. The power of Nyx's return overwhelming him as he reported to the rest of his friends that Luca's body had been possessed by Nyx. When questioned how he knew, Marius explained that Gino is the last decedent of the Titan of Ambition. This angered Sentinel, who assumed that Gino was granted all the powers of a God undeservingly. Gino quickly calmed her down by explaining how he's still the same scared little boy he was when he started his journey with no clue what he's doing. With the party united, they set course towards Nyx.

Meanwhile, Cresento's attempt to leave The Don Kuro Hideout failed as Nyx came aboard and confronted him about lying about Gino's death. Nyx blackmailed Cresento into using his ship to change the world. The two were suddenly rammed by Gino's ship and a conflict ensued. Gino's ship ultimately crashed; the victory going to Nyx this time.

As the crew were recovering, Gino thought he lost his father's last letter in the crash. Upon having it returned by Nicolae, Gino decided to open it. To everyone's shock, Johnny Gambino's last words to his son was a joke claiming he was adopted. This prompted Gino to laugh to the point of tears, not because he found it funny, but because he found it utterly stupid. This letter awoke the sleeping power of the Titan in Gino, and he set out to face Nyx a second time.

Nyx had moved on to Durem and began to create what he was destine to be: Death and Distruction. By the time Gino and his party reached the city, the majority of the downtown area was smoking and in ruins. Louie and his loyal vampires tried to defend the city, but they were unsuccessful. As Ian suggested that his brother retreat, Gino showed up and punched Nyx in the face... much to everyone's surprise. A fist-to-fist battle between the God of Dead and the Titan of Ambition began.

Once in the safety of Edmund's store, Marius/Oversear brought everyone up to speed as to Gino's bloodline and his new-found powers. Sentinel added that during The Old Age, the titans and gods grew stronger in direct proportion to the numbers and frequency of Humans worshiping them. The goal is clear: Get the citizens of the world to support Gino.

In the woods outside of Durem, Cordell found the lifeless body of Fish thrown into the woods. Recognizing it as Nyx's handiwork, Cordell and the rest of the Dark Elves defected from their leader and joined the Vampires in an effort to defeat Nyx.

Louie and Edmund brought Cordell close enough to witness the melee battle between Gino & Nyx. Against her better judgement, Cordell ran onto the battlefield in order to reason with her one-time brother, but Nyx revealed that any trace of Luca has been removed from the body he currently possess. Nyx then struck down Cordell with an attack from above, but it was blocked by Brennivn at the last moment. The distraction was enough to give Gino the upper hand in the fight. Cordell then assisted the exhausted wizard to the sidelines in order to help him recover from the attack.

Meanwhile, Edmund slipped away from the crowd and headed to the main church in Durem. As he climbed the stairs, he encountered Zhivago...

The Masque
Timeline: Taken place immediately after Gino’s recovery and before Ian’s trial.

As Gino began rebuilding Gambino Mansion, he assured Sasha and Ian that things would be different. No more secrets or dangerous experiments. Gambino Mansion and the basement laboratory of G-CORP would be open to the public. However, Ian was suspicious of Gino’s true motives and began attempts to disprove that Gino as a good guy.

Meanwhile, in the newly constructed G-CORP, Labtech123 was able to recreate the original G-Virus from a single Grunny. Unfortunately, history began to repeat itself as Labtech X reappeared to release the other, more aggressive Grunnies into the wild. The result was a second zombie infection that was slightly more contained than the last. But it was not without consequence.

That night, the lab caught fire while Gino had Sasha over for a romantic dinner. The fire quickly spread to the rest of the mansion. In their attempt to escape the mansion, Gino and Sasha became trapped when a piece of the structure fell on top of them. Luckily, Ian was in the area attempting to show Sasha some proof that Gino is a bad guy and helped save Sasha. The mansion burned down that night with Gino in it.

But history would end up repeating itself yet again, as a mysterious Elvin figure was seen taking a test tube from the ruble of G-CORP late that night…

A few months later, the big holiday events were scheduled to begin starting with Halloween. Strangely enough, Santa driving a giant mechanical suit showed up during the celebration. He addressed the public stating that the behavior of the population was horrible and would ultimately cancel Christmas due to the rude behavior of certain individuals within the Gaia community. He also publicly blamed Jack, the spirit of Halloween, for this behavior. Jack didn’t take too kindly to this accusation and assaulted the Santa Mech. The blow was so brutal that it actually KILLED Santa!

In a desperate attempt to save Santa, the workshop elves used the G-Virus one of them obtained from G-CORP on Santa. This caused him to fuse with his robotic suit, but also made him uncharacteristically more aggressive. He publicly attacked Jack, who was staying over until the new year, without a care as to who got caught in the cross fire. At the climax of the battle, Sasha found herself in the unfortunate position of being at ground zero for a devastating impact between the two holiday icons. Ian attempted to save her, but was beaten to the deed by a masked figure who dropped from the sky like an angel. He quickly dealt with the two holiday icons and saved Sasha.

Shortly afterwards, this masked figured identified himself simply as The Masque. He also announced that during a New Years Celebration he would be hosting in Durem, he would kiss the love of his life, Sasha, at midnight. Upon learning this news, someone released a wig that looked like Sasha’s iconic hair style while another released a replica of the mask worn by Gaia’s new-yet-temporary superhero. During the actual New Years celebration, a creeped-out Sasha waited for the real Masque to show up. Ian, still high off of jealousy, attempted to get into the building but was stopped by Gambino’s butler Geebus. As soon as the countdown started, Ian assaulted Geebus and fought his way in. Unfortunately, he was too late.

The Masque revealed himself to be Gino Gambino, still alive from the fire that burned down the mansion a few months ago, and kept his promise of kissing Sasha at midnight. Ian was promptly arrested and charged with the arson of Gambino mansion shortly after the stroke of midnight.

The Zurgs
Timeline: Takes place after the battle on the cliffs and before the assault on Edmund.

After the revival of Johnny Gambino, construction on a third Gambino Mansion on the island began when Gambino produced the energy drink Red Bino in order to generate funds. It worked so well that he decided to host a party to celebrate his return as Gaia’s number one rich man.

However, at the party, a UFO destroyed the roof of the ballroom and attempted to abduct a few Gaians. It was a botched attempt, and the UFO ended up crashing into the Mansion. When it opened up, the leaders of the alien race known as the Zurgs introduced herself as Mother. Gambino graciously welcomed them to Gaia on behalf of the people and began to slowly introduce the race to the wonders of the world.

The world, however, wouldn’t take too kindly to their introduction. Several members of Gaia’s population formed a resistance against the new race, spreading propaganda that suggested the Zurgs were here for evil purposes. Others attempted to befriend them with some range of success depending on their approach. And, naturally, a hidden government organization that specializes in these kind of situations known as the Gaians in Black sudden found themselves out in the forefront of the conflict to protect the citizens, both for and against the Zurgs being on Gaia.

Eventually, the conflicting emotions corrupted the peaceful alien race and they began to fight among themselves. The apex of this corruption came when the most innocent of the aliens, known to most Gaians as simply 2, was killed while handing out Christmas presents to the citizens of Barton. Their leader, Mother, saw this and was disappointed that their presence in Gaia resulted in the moral corruption of her children. She then took the remaining members of the original Zurg race and left Gaia. Forever.

The Reject Olympics & Stranger Danger
Timeline: Takes place after Louie becomes the head of the vampire race.

In a rare event that involved breaking the 4th wall, Lanzer decreed that an Olympic game will be held between the four known towns of Gaia. With each town wanting to win over the other three, representatives began training their citizens. Unfortunately, Durem was at severe disadvantage due to the vampire population being extremely weak during the day when the events were to take place. So with the help of a mysterious traveling salesman that has a knack for finding unique merchandise via questionable means, the ancient race of Dark Elves were brought out of hiding to represent Durem in the Olympic games. Their leader, Don Luca Kuro, reluctantly gave the town access to his best people in order to repay a favor owed to Devin, a tattoo artist.

On Barton’s side were a race of Centaurs who caused Logan to restrict his fishing industry or pay an insanely high fine in order to compensate the damage he caused to the natural order. Leon of the Barton Regulars was able to convince them to join them in the Olympic with the promise that if they win, the prize money will go towards their environmental causes. Rina also helped out by introducing the Angel Imp, who was able to take on a human-like form to assist the town in the games as well.

Liam of Aekea wanted to build several robots, but they were stressed for time and ultimately couldn’t do it. However, Edy introduced them to the Orcs who lived just outside of Aekea when one of them was helping a wayward Zurg repair his UFO at Sam’s garage. The Zurg and the Orcs were unfortunately roped into the Olympics against their wills due to the quick talking Edy and even quicker scheming on Liam’s part.

Meanwhile, on Gambino Island, Johnny decided to pay a visit to the bank and use a failed version of the G-Virus known as 3A to give the island an advantage in the games. While retrieving it from the safe, Gambino ran into a race of Devil Imps who were obsessed with gold teeth. He instantly grew fond of the little race and asked their help in securing a test subject for 3A. Upon injecting it into the lifeless body, a new kind of zombie was produced that would hug its victims rather than eat their brains and infect them.

The Olympic Games came and went and the new races began to integrate into the population of Gaia in one form or another. Unfortunately, some unnecessary racial tension erupted when a traveling fortune teller did a public reading for Ian, foretelling of a future where one group would survive while the others died. Her prediction caused a backlash against the new races, as each one felt threaten by the prediction of genocide. Ian, convinced that his fortune was misread, sought out the fortune teller again, who re-read his future. The one group she originally mentioned was meant to be symbolic, representing every Gaian of every race. This group must survive or everyone will parish in the upcoming apocalypse she saw in Ian’s future.

DeamonBusters thru Fallen Gods
Timeline: Happens before and leads into Gino’s adventure around the world.

Long ago when Gaia was still forming, there were two demigods who used their powers in subtle ways to help shape Gaia. One day, they saw an earthworm and argued as to what to do to help the creature out. The clash between the two caused them to become trapped in benign objects. Centuries pasted until one of them was released.

Jack, the Spirit of Halloween, released for his own personal amusement the aggressive Sentinel, who displayed her power by reviving a dead character that nobody really cared about. However, the impact of her actions made news and caught the attention of the Overseer, the second demigod who was trapped as a clam in Phin Phang’s Aquarium shop. Upon learning this news, the Overseer possessed Gino, who was in the shower at Liam’s home at the time, in order to channel his magic to combat his long-time foe.

The battle raged on for several weeks as the entire population of Gaia was divided between the two newly formed cult. However, once Halloween was over, Jack took matters into his own hand and stripped both the Overseer and Sentinel of their powers and left them as mere humans. Jack had his fun, and now that his holiday is over, there was no need for them. This left the two of them confused, scared, and without purpose.

Homeless and powerless, the Overseer decided to do something about their condition and regain their powers. While walking the streets, he comes across a news report stating that Santa has gone into hiding for mysterious reasons and took the report as a sign as to what to do with his life. But without god powers, there was no way he could help Gaia out. After being knocked down by an angry-looking Gino in passing, Overseer saw the airship of the world traveler Crescento and quickly rushed to create one of his own… out of a bathtub in the local junkyard.

Nicolae, a traveling con-man, saw this and took advantage of the former demigod by trading him a stolen engine for the Overseer’s pendent. The engine is question came from Santa’s sleigh and would cause the bathtub to fly whenever holiday cheer was close to it. With the help of the citizens, the Overseer was able to get enough fuel to start passing out some gifts via the skies of Gaia. Sentinel eventually joined in on his plan, partly because she was hoping he would fail in the process and would like to be there when he does. She got her wish, too. Crecento didn’t like that someone else was going to have an airship and destroyed the junkyard-made ship by landing his own airship on top of it. After leaving the Overseer back at square one, the elusive fashion designer Brennivin appeared and donated his own airship to help with their cause.

Once the holidays were over and both the Overseer and Sentinel were loved by the masses, they thought that maybe their powers have returned to them. Unfortunately, they had not. While trying to figure out what their next move was going to be, they quickly discovered that there was a stowaway aboard their airship. It was Gino Gambino, who has had a hard time being in the public eye after the Overseer possessed his naked body and publicly paraded him around. The Overseer apologized for his action, but somehow Gino passively hijacked the ship and sent them in a random direction towards adventure!

This subplot ends with the revelation that Jack, Santa, and the Easter RabBOT have been hiding together. Their reason is that “He is coming.” Who “he” is was never revealed.

zOMG! PLOT
Quote:
Disclaimer: There is some debate as to if this plot is part of the proper cannon of Gaia. While the information found within the game falls within its place on the timeline, the after-affects of the actions have yet to be seen or even mentioned in the story proper. Many believe that zOMG! and its story are an alternate universe of sorts because of this. Unless future information makes itself known linking the events in the game to the story proper, this section should be taken as a stand-alone plot separate but in-relationship to the main story.

Timeline: Events start shortly after the event on the cliffs but did not affect the main cast until after Ian’s misread fortune.

On the Halloween after the mysterious Fortune Teller came to Barton, Ian and Rufus were spotted running away from monsters that were terrorizing the surrounding area. These monsters were the like of Garden Gnomes and fluffy cotton balls, as well as a few discarded hats that came to life. The Barton Regular, the town guards, attempted to fight them off, but their traditional weapons were useless against the creatures. Just as panic was about to set in, two mysterious women rode into town on a motorcycle who were experienced with combating the monsters and used magic rings to destroy them. One of them stayed behind to train the citizens of Barton, and eventually all of Gaia, how to use these rings. The other would resume her own quest in the far reaches of Gaia. However, on her way there, she came across a mysterious young man who was late for his train and asked to be dropped off at the nearest train station.

(NOTE: The following was the game’s original tutorial. The developers changed the tutorial out because player feedback suggested that it was too slow and too boring, turning several new players off from the game before they even started.)

The story then picks up from the user’s point of view. You find yourself on a train with a mysterious young man who identifies himself as Frank. As you talk, you notice that the train doesn’t appear to be slowing down as you approach Barton Station. Frank instructs you to head to the front of the train and override the auto-pilot while he runs to the back to initiate the emergency breaks. The two of you perform the action just in time to pull safely into Barton Station. Upon exiting the train, you are greeted by Dani, the woman who assisted in saving Barton in the introduction manga. She warns you that it isn’t safe to venture into the world of Gaia now and forcefully volunteers you into her task force. After several training sessions to help you get used to how the rings work, she sends you off to find your way out of the Barton sewers and up to the town square.

The player is then sent on various isolated story quests. While most of these stories don’t have a connecting thread outside of the monsters known as The Animated, the mystery of what The Animated are is revealed with each new area. The following are summaries of the important information found during the player’s journey as it pertains to The Animated themselves.

Leon and the Barton Regulars have been observing the Gnomes since Ian and Rufus ran from them and discovered that their primitive behavior is similar to that of an army coordinating an attack. Leon recruits you to deal with the Gnome General and prevent an attack on the city.

Ian is worried that The Animated can be controlled and asks you to head over to Dead Man’s Pass, a dark hill that overlooks Bill’s Ranch. Ian knew the former owner of the house, a vicious vampire who he thought had died and left the house to rot. Upon your investigation of the house, you discover that someone is still living there and has figured out how to control the various Animateds that populate the are, confirming Ian’s fear.

Katsumi and her Uncle Kin, who look over and care for Zen Garden, have been feeling a disruption of the energy flows in the world ever since The Animated arrived. Both of them present you with their own theories as to what may be going on, and send you to where these energy disruptions are the strongest, which include facing and destroying Katsumi’s beloved doll which has recently become the leader of The Animated for the area.

Bass’ken Lake, being such a large area, has been divided up into territories by more aggressive Animated creatures. Logan comes up with a device that he thinks would repeal them away from the area, but instead accidentally causes more to show up. The Animated here exhibit all three of the characteristics found in the previous areas (grouping, being able to be summoned, following a leader) which makes them quite dangerous given the proximity to Barton.

The Old Aqueducts have been invaded by a new type of alien that came through a mysterious star gate, and the GIB (Gaians in Black) are there to investigate if they have a connection with The Animated. Also investigating the new aliens is a member of G-CORP, who were the ones handing out the rings to Dani and the rest of the citizens of Gaian to help defend themselves. G-CORP is very interested in the alien technology because of its ability to actually harm The Animated, which is something that can’t be done with Gaia’s tech.

Upon reaching Gold Beach, the player is placed into the story proper for the game. While taking a break from surfing, the local beach bums tell you that they’ve seen strange lights from underneath the ocean. A local explorer going by the name of Marshall, who is friends with Jacques the lighthouse keeper, recently went to explore the source of those strange lights but never came back. He also took the last of the diving gear, so you have to find another way to explore the ocean floor to find him.

Turns out, Blaze, the second woman from the introduction manga that help defend Barton and gave the mysterious Frank a ride to the train station, is also friends with Marshall and is worried about his safety as well. She was also the first to encounter The Animated while researching the ancient warrior civilization that once lived in the Otami Ruins. She tells you to find the last members of this race to help you. After pleasing the ancient gods that they worship, you are granted a boon that allows you to breathe underwater.

Once underwater, you find Marshall who reveals that the debris from Gambino’s tower that fell several years ago have been retrofitted by a mysterious organization. The old G-CORP laboratory equipment has been reactivated and turned into a complex sea lab. As the player makes their way to the sea lab, they encounter Labtech123 who greets them very villainously. He explains that the explosion caused by Gino’s encounter with Labtech X opened a fissure in the ocean. The fissure released a new energy source known as Ghi. Labtech123 is part of a new company known as neXus, whose mission is to mine the energy for a breeding program involving The Animated. He also reveals that the player and everyone using the rings is helping them mine the Ghi energy. The Animated are created when Ghi attaches itself to an inanimate object. When that creature is destroyed, the fissure releases more Ghi into the world in order to stabilize the biosphere. In other words, the more Animateds killed by the rings, the more energy is released from the fissure, the more neXus is able to mine for their purpose.

The player is then given the immediate quest to break into the sea lab and stop the program from happening. Upon entering the sea lab’s air lock, the player is welcomed by none other than Labtech X. He introduces himself as Gambino’s Death Insurance and reveals that he is a clone of Gambino, with many others like him on stand by. However, he didn’t like this idea and broke off from G-CORP and formed neXus, along with members of G-CORP’s Labtech who had a similar world view to his. He did all this while the rest of the world was distracted with the Zurgs visiting Gaia, stealing funds from Gambino in order to build the neXus Sea Lab. In the traditional villain monologue, Labtech X also explains that he has found a way to attach Ghi to any object he wishes and has constructed a self-replicating machine that he’s about to release onto the world thanks to the Ghi energy released by you and others in the world. He decides to give the new ultimate monster a test run… on you!

Upon defeating the man-made Animated Mech, neXus undergoes a self-destruct sequence and is destroyed. You escape the complex relatively unharmed, but so does Labtech X.

This chapter in the game ends with the player reporting back to important characters from Gaia about what The Animated truly are and who has been behind this mess the entire time. They aren’t very pleased with the fact they have to deal with The Animated, since they are now a part of the Gaia biosphere, but at least they know how to deal with them. They then begin the long trial of reopening blocked roads to the other towns to reestablish communications with Durem and Aekea.

They also ask you if they can call on you for help again should Labtech X show up and attempt a similar destructive take over. You gladly accept the call to action…

Backstories & History
The Gambino/Von Helson Feud’s Origin
Timeline: At least a year before Gino Gambino’s birth.

Vladimir seduced a woman in order to produce heirs to his legacy. After she served her purpose and produced Louie and Damian, it was advised that he “let her go” to live her life as she pleases. During this time, she fell in love with Johnny Gambino and produced Gino. However, she wanted to also have her first two sons with her in this new family. One night, risking her life and the life of her children, she took the two boys and ran away with them. Unfortunately, Vlad and Zhivago were there to deal with her and shot her dead in cold blood. In the struggle that happened afterwards, Damian managed to escape and was rescued by a young Edmund. He brought Damian to Gambino who immediately showed nothing but hatred towards the child, claiming that vampires are creatures that need to be dealt with. Having no other choice, Gambino hid Damian in plain sight as the Barton shop owner Ian.

The Kuro Tragedy
Timeline: Countless centuries ago.

Kuro and Cordell’s mother fell in love with a vampire. The affair was a sinful one for both races, and ended with the vampire being executed and their mother being forced to live underground. Over time, their skin developed gray blotches due to lack of sunlight and the cursed nature of the affair. This curse was passed on to Don Kuro, who was born physically weak and had his growth stunted. Concerned for his health, their mother left the underground to return to their homeland in an effort to lift the curse. She never returned.

Gaia's Children
Timeline: At the Beginning of Time

When the world was young, Gaia, the goddess of the world, created five sons. Her oldest was Meili, the tiger. Her youngest was Nyx, the quirin. As creator, Gaia could not directly influence and guide her creations, but her children would. The five children formed a code of conduct after witnessing armies of Angels and Demons battle a war over the fate of humanity. Nyx discovered that he didn't have a firm grasp on helping life thrive, often being responsible for its destruction and death. Meili, who decided to help guide Humanity, eventually breathed life into several Titans, who were the embodiment of various characteristics of the human race. The stand out Titan was one who represented humanity's ambition. Nyx, though jealous of his older brother's powers, took a liking to this particular Titan, and the two of them began to play pranks on several of the other gods and creatures. Eventually, Nyx used his friend in a plot to overthrow his brothers' in order to rise through the ranks. It was this very plot that caused the rift between Oversear and Sentinel. (See Sub-Plots section) The Titan saw no joy or humor in the infighting that erupted from the "prank" and confessed the truth to Gaia. This resulted in Nyx being banished from the pantheon. The Titan giving up his immortality so that no other god could use Humanity's ambition against another god and insure that Nyx would be sealed as long as the bloodline remained in the world. The current known descendant of this Titan is Gino Gambino.
