Cube's B's Potion Guide
Are you bored with your skin? Do you wish you could try something new? Change your skin tone? Or even your species? Well, now you can! This guide will explain Skins to you step by step, and explain how to use the wonderful new Skin potions that have recently been released.
What is a Skin?-
A skin is your avatar's base. Essentially, a skin is your body. When you created your avatar, you chose from one of 6 default skin tones. These are the
Base Skintones. The 6 skintones available to everyone, at anytime. In addition to Base skins, we have
Special Skins and Item Skins.
Special Skins- Special Skins are (usually) Non Human avatar bases. Originally, special skins were only available through event participation. Recently, more special skins have been released through various potions.
A special skin is different from a Base Skin. Special skins may remove your hair, eyes, mouth, or in some cases all three! In addition, more exotic special skins have layering issues and incompatibilities with some items. (For example, a Centaur cannot wear lower body items)
Special skins are usually released around Halloween, though more potions can be released at the staff's discretion. Unlike Item skins, a majority of special skins are Plot Related, and NPCs with similar skins may exist.
Item Skins:
Item skins are like Skin wigs. Unlike special skins, they can be equipped or removed at any time. They are usually non-canon races.
Item skins tend to have fewer layering issues than special skins, and rarely deviate from the basic avatar shape. When an item skin is worn over a special skin with custom eyes or hair, the item skin will appear faceless or bald.
How do I change my skin?
Changing your skin is simple!
Through a Potion:
Step 1: Visit Skin Tyte, and select the potion you want. Currently, Potions Cannot be previewed, so drink at your own risk.
Step 2: After purchasing the potion, head to your inventory. Potions appear under the "Special" tab.
Step 3: Click on the potion. On the following page, they will ask if you would like to use the potion. Click yes.
Step 4: Your avatar will automatically re-save! Incompatible items will be removed.
To change back, simply use a Human Potion. (Grombies use Experiment 105. More below)
Through an Item:
Step 1: Make sure you have the item in your inventory.
Step 2: Go to the avatar dress-up page.
Step 3: Click the item in question. You may have to select the pose. Skin poses are usually square, and show a pattern or color.
Step 4: Save your avatar!
Through Avatar Deletion:
Step 1: Go to the Avatar Edit page, and click "Delete Avatar". You will need to enter your password.
WARNING: This will cause you to lose your hair and eyes.
Step 2: Recreate your avatar using the skin tone, hair, and eyes of your choice.
Note: sometimes the skin will stay with you even after Avatar deletion. Using a Human potion is the safer and easier method.
Through an Event:
The rules of each event vary wildly. Some events offer links that allow you to change skins. Some simply release potions, and others require you to play the event itself until you reach the "turning" requirements. Most Halloween skins are released as potions during or after the event however.
What is Experiment 105?
Experiment 105 is a special potion for Grombies Only. It allows them to switch between bases freely. When they wish to return to Grombie form, they simply drink the potion.
IF YOU ARE NOT A GROMBIE, DRINKING EXPERIMENT 105 WILL DELETE YOUR AVATAR. DO NOT DRINK EXPERIMENT 105!
What is Red Bino/Vial of Unknown Liquid?
These are both "cure" items from previous Halloween Events. Drinking them would reset your skin to it's previous form. However, they have been replaced by the Human Potions, and no longer work.
Does Gaia know what Skin I have?
If you're using a Base or Special skin, yes. Your avatar code has a tag that tells the Avatar Server what base to use. This is what lets Potions work. Grombies have a tag that lets Experiment 105 to work on them.
Gaia also knows if you are wearing an Item skin, but treats it as an Item rather than a base.
What does this mean? It means that it's possible for Gaia to react differently depending on your species! This is what allows Halloween events to work.
Where can I find pictures of all the skins?
tektek.org is fairly good at keeping it's skins updated, though there is a delay between when a skin is released, and when it can be viewed, sadly.
