FAQ
the following is info about mods taken from Gaia's FAQs
Is Gaia a moderated site?Although privacy and anonymity are important to us, Gaia is equally concerned with members who might try to conduct illegal activities, abuse, harass, or degrade the Gaia experience for others. In the event this happens, members are able to report to moderators, who can offer help when needed.
Gaia has a large staff of site moderators whose job it is to enforce the Terms of Service and move - or when necessary, remove, items from the site that are counter to the stipulated rules of conduct.
Site Moderators may remove and ban any members who do not adhere to the Terms of Service from the site.
How do I get in touch with a moderator? From any forum, you may use the View Forum Moderators link, which will display a list of moderators assigned to that particular forum.
You can then send a private message ( ) with your question to one of the moderators listed.
Moderators are volunteers who donate their time to answer questions and make your experience on Gaia more pleasant. Resort to moderators only as a last option when you've exhausted all other venues. Detail your problem in a clear and concise fashion and treat the moderator with civility and courtesy.
Due to the large volume of questions, it may take several days to receive a reply. If a moderator feels that your question has already been covered and documented, she/he may refer you to the FAQ for answers.
Why was my thread moved to another forum? Our moderators will sometimes move a thread from one forum to another one if they feel that another forum is more appropriate for a particular thread. Do not take this personally. It is just part of normal housekeeping and keeps the site organized. If you have questions about why your thread was moved, please reply to the PM or contact an online Moderator with a copy of the message.
Can I report a player for a violation of the TOS while playing slots? If you feel that a player is violating the terms of service agreement, asking that player to desist is the best course of action. If the player continues to misbehave you can report that user by clicking on the user's avatar and selecting "Report Abuse".
Please remember that differences of opinion do not necessarily constitute a violation of ToS, so do not use this button unless you're certain that the person is breaching rules.
When in doubt, ask.
Can I report a player for a violation of the TOS while playing fishing? If you feel that a player is violating the terms of service agreement, asking that player to desist is the best course of action. If the player continues to misbehave you can report that user by clicking on the user's avatar and hitting "Report Abuse".
Please remember that differences of opinion do not necessarily constitute a violation of ToS, so do not use this button unless you're fairly confident that the person is breaching rules.
It always pays to ask questions first before making a brash decision.
Can I report a player for a violation of the TOS while playing Gaia Cards?Terms of service violations can be reported from within the game. Though generally most issues can be resolved by asking nicely that they stop. If the player continues to misbehave you can report that user by clicking on that user?s avatar and selecting ?Report Abuse?.
Please remember that differences of opinion are not necessarily violations of ToS, so do not use this button unless you?re certain that the person is breaching rules.
When in doubt, ask.
What is considered scamming?A scam is generally an attempt to obtain information about your account in order to gain Gaia Gold, items or both with little or no effort.
We attempt to keep a safe environment for everyone, but there are always certain individuals that don't play by the rules and may attempt to obtain your password so they can hack into your account.
These are some examples of scams that you might encounter and are completely false. We'll use the fictitious user JohnQDoe as an example:JohnQDoe's account contains a virus. If you click on a PM from JohnQDoe, your computer will be infected."You've been selected to become a moderator. Please provide us with your account name and password so we can upgrade your account.""You have been accused of hacking and scamming. Please provide us with your username and password so we can clear you of any wrongdoing.""You've been selected for a special drawing of a Halo. Give us your account information so we can process your entry."
Another common tactic -- a member wishing to trade an item that's gift-wrapped claiming that it's a rare and expensive item. When trading, especially if it's an expensive item, make sure that you can see the item being traded before you accept it.
Again, we'd like to re-iterate:
Under NO circumstance will Gaia Staff ask you for your username and password... EVER!
What is considered hacking?Hacking is any unauthorized attempt to gain access to a member's account. Some hacking maybe done through clever computer know-how, but most hacking is very low tech -- mostly involving scams where members are coerced into giving away their account names and passwords. It's also possible to gain control of your account if you are logged in and leave your computer unattended for long periods of time.
Generally people attempt to hack accounts in order to obtain Gaia Gold and items. If you suspect that your account has been accessed without your permission and see some unusual trading activity such as:Trades that you did not initiate or authorizeTrades with members whose names you don't recognizeInability to access your account
You may consider filling out a Report a Hacking form.
What is considered spamming?Spamming is when a member makes posts that are not relevant to a specific thread or that are gibberish (ex: ghghghgghahdpoifuasd;fjkasd;lfuop). We ask that you please follow the rules of the forum/thread (read the stickies and announcements) and that you try to stay relevant and on-topic.
What is report-system abuse? We provide a reporting system so that users can notify us in case they see a post or thread that is counter to the Gaia Terms of Service agreement. All reports are reviewed by moderators and evaluated to determine if the concerns are valid or not. Reporting a post or thread does not mean that action will be taken. It merely flags a moderator to review said post or thread. When reporting activity:Make sure that the activity is a breach of TOSOnly report it once.
Submitting multiple reports will not help speed it along. As a matter of fact, if we find that a user has been abusing the system by reporting the same issue repeatedly, you may receive a warning. Use the tools you are given judiciously.
What is a Warning?Warnings are private messages sent to a user for a violation of the terms of service.
Continued violations of the terms of service may result in a ban placed on your account.
What is a Ban?A ban is a temporary or permanent suspension of your account. If a ban has been placed on your account, you will be notified via e-mail as to the reason and duration of the ban.
What is a Chain Letter?A Chain Letter is a message designed to convince a member to make a number of copies of the letter and send them to other members ? either via private message or threads. Some chain letters are scams, and others simply annoying. Either way, we urge that you please refrain from sending or perpetuating chain letters as they are a form of spam and will be dealt with as such.
