My account was hacked Friday. I'd always been careful, but it happened anyway, so I must not have been careful enough. I've already submitted a report, but I'm wondering if anyone can offer some advice for what to do until this gets sorted out. Or maybe a support group? Yeah, that would be good.

Edit: Also, tell me if this sounds plausible. I had taken a trip to Mexico two weeks ago. While there, I logged in several times using the PC at the resort's business center. Although it was some time ago, is it possible I had been keylogged then? That is the only thing I can think of.
it's possible but highly unlikely they'd go for a gaia online account. those things are usually in place to catch SSN and banking information.

as for a support group check out this place.

So assuming I'm right and the hotel PC is to blame, should I try to tell the hotel? I doubt stealing patron information off the computers is part of company policy, but I'm also kind of afraid they won't take any action because this is just some stupid kids' site and I have no proof that anything was even done.

why dont you just try to gey your acc back by changeing the password

Because hackers often change the email associated with the account so that doing that wouldn't work. That's what happened to me, and I know it's happened to others.

there's no harm in telling them to do a search for key loggers (hardware and software). they may not care enough to do anything though... unless it's a place that makes money off public computers they usually don't give a crap about them.

They do. About a dollar for ten minutes. That's part of why it occured to me they might be to blame. I'm pretty convinced they have to do something to record how long you were online, and it's not that much of a stretch of the imagination that whatever they use to do it has keylogging capabilities.

eh, i doubt it. a simple timing device/ software is all they probably use.

the reason behind it all could be much simpler... forgetting to log off and clear your cookies. closing the browser after logging off doesn't insure that your login cookie was removed.

tips for using public computers
