in that case just report the whole thread and explain what is going on. a mod will be able to snoop around and find who is doing it.

Another one I recommend you to change the private message to 'Friend only', etc like this:

Private Messages

Receive PMs: Yes
No
Friends Only

PM Notifications: Notify me when I receive a private message.

changing PMs to "friend's only" won't help much if a friend gets hacked, you'll still be able to get scam PMs. it's also a bit unnecessary.

if you just know what to look for (and most of it is painfully obvious) you don't have to severely limit who you can get PMs from.

you should only do that if you don't trust yourself to not get overwhelmed and fall for scams... but on the flip side you need to be very careful about who you add as a friend.

figuring it out wasn't too difficult, but the guide has been a work in progress for 4 years.

Well, true. I never had scam PMs before since I entered first time in Gaia online, later I turned to "Friend only".
