♥ Avoid Getting Hacked! ♥ IMPORTANT UPDATE 12/31

Hey, I have been a member of gaia since 06/16/2004. I haven't gotten many scam offeres since i 1st started, but now things have changed a lot. Since this sword's price have sky rocketed, people have scammers have been after this thing for a good while. I have to say that most of this stuff is common sense. Then again, some can be scary and make your heart jump, "what? i'm gonna be banned?" but my composure regains and I see the fraud in them.

I have even tested out one of these sites and made a mule to see what happens. It wasn't pretty, they completely took over my account. i couldn't change my passord, i couldn't go to my dummy e-mail account. No way to reverse you mistake, but in the end they let him go cause he was a NOOB...i think his name was bumblebeetuna_X1.

I have been avoiding scams for a good while now. Though i have great common sense and awareness, it doesn't hurt to learn a little more about these scams. I have to say that there are a lot more than i thought. Thanks for the FAQs and I admire those who go out of their way to help keep Gaia safe and enjoyable.

You have been suspected of "hacking" and "password scamming" other accounts. Frequent reports have been coming in with your name. In order to avoid an immediate ban we will need your password to check your trade history. If you are proven guilty but have cooperated your ban will only be temporary. If you do not respond in TEN minutes your account will be banned permanently.

OMG. i got that one. the name was in green so i freaked out. i didnt understand it real well cause i was half asleep. so i sent all my items to a junkie account. then i reported it. then they told me it was a scam. i was so mad. but at least now i know what was happening.

if i do, i probably won't say much about it. i've been yelling at people to make safe passwords for years. it's already been said in here for the most part. i'm glad gaia is finally making that mandatory, but also saddened by the amount of people who are crying over losing "their right" to have a horrible password. but, eh, i guess if people want to get hacked that's their problem.

as for the e-mail changes, there isn't much to say about that easier. whoop, now it's impossible to change your e-mail unless you have access to both accounts. it really won't do all that much to stop hackers in the long run. and worse, if you got hacked via your e-mail in the first place (which is increasingly common) and the hacker changed your e-mail, guess what!? LOL U CAN'T CHANGE IT! *insert evil laugh here*, i think gaia REALLY needs to have a way to over ride that, especially since the big reason why people change their e-mail is they can't access the account. as you can tell, i'm not a big fan of this "security measure", i think it's more of a "headache measure". neutral

Hey, I found a new scam attempt. It looked like a tame enough message about extremists of gaia, but when you go to click the link at the bottom, the url isn't gaia. And you get the standard 'logged out' message when you go to it.

just a reminder to be aware of zOMG scams. keep an eye on the announcements for official zOMG info, anything that comes to you by PM from a user who isn't a staff member (refer to the first post to learn how to properly identify staff) should be ignored. you will not get a link to play early by PM!!
