User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. hmm looks like the typical password scam via e-mail. this one is particularly bad though... "IP username"? LMFAO, there is no such thing. also notice it says "PMB" instead of P.O. Box.

Thank you for this. Kind of scary really but it happens every where. Very imformative and enlightening. Great work on this!
User Image :O new scam! just your average phishing scam at heart... don't be fooled into giving up your account to get cool items for cheap. if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

I was doing a jigsaw in the game section. I created my own room because I didn't want to be disturbed by other users, and I used a password. Halfway through the puzzle a message where the Admins message popped up:

Administrator: You have been selected to test our Gaia Online's latest feature. The newest feature in testing is "Gold Creator" it will be able to get tested from May 1st - 5th

http: // www. qaiaonline.co .cc/

Obviously a scam:

1. they used a q instead of a g in the address line
2. co.cc - gaia is .com
3. Administrator: obviously crap

I do have a picture of this with me doing the puzzle. If you want me to post it then I will.

Thank You.
User Image a screen shot would be great, thanks.

Thank you for this thread.

I've been on Gaia many years and knew most of this stuff already, but you ferreted out information even I didn't know about...namely, Zwinky. I've seen it advertised everywhere and was tempted to try it, but some inner sense always had me holding off on it. NowI certainly won't.

One major point of concern for me is a friend of mine who, about two years ago or so, was hacked. Her account was just "taken over" and even the Guild was reassigned to a complete stranger.

She was very lucky that she acted swiftly and contacted just the right people....she had her stuff back within two days and everything (except some gold) was put back under her control.

However, she was as careful as I am and never gave her password out to anybody.

Someone had directly hacked her account and she cannot fathom how they did it. Neither can I, just that some account had paid a "professional" hacker to mess with hers, to the point that even her own guild was suddenly under another person's name.

Good Thread.

=D

but ive seen a scam where people offer on a item [being sold in the Gaia Exchange]and they say "I offer ______________ send trade." and the blank is filled with whatever the asking price is, higher valued item, etc.

Now when YOU send the trade, you wait, and you get 2 requests. One changes the offer, and one accepts it. Forcing you to enter your PW twice. It gets people to not really think. and at the last second they accept the trade with you tradeing your CocoKitty for 3000G instead of 300000 ,

I was hacked by this once. =[

Thank you for this guide, especially the information about smitfrauds and how to remove them, I've had popups and strange goings-on on my computer lately and no scan or manual cleaning of the computer made it go away, I'll try it out first thing when I get home!

User Image hopefully that will solve your problem but if it doesn't this sticky from the C&T forum may have a solution.
Hey.. I just got this right now. I would take a screen shot for you but I have no idea how on a Mac computer. This is what they just sent me.

This thread brings back the memory of the first scam that someone sent to me. I almost fell for it but I decidedto check (i was only a few days old back then). I sent him a message with a fake password and a note XD that was like almost 2 years ago. I sort of figured out on my own that it was fake, I hadn't even looked at any threads or anything aout hacking.
