Hello all, and welcome to my not so small scale fishing guide. It has progressed from what it once was, and I'm hoping to build upon it even more so that anyone who reads this will have the necessary info for not only starting out on Gaia Fishing, but to be able to take the extra step and help them get better and form strategies as well.

Fishing is back up! Rather, you are able to save again. As of May 4th, 2016, the captcha will work with any input, but it works. Fish save, stats seem to be saving, and since you don't have to read a garbled captcha, it isn't so painful. If you encounter any notable bugs, it has been asked that you pose in this thread
Past Announcements:

As of January 27th, the Fishing Exchange was updated with ways to create new Aquarium Fish [lite]'s. Each of these fish look exactly the same as the old ones that came from Phin Phang for cash, but have "[lite]" tacked onto their name. There are a few that straight up make the actual aquarium fish it seems as well. Any with the [lite] tag have a 1 month lifespan that we can see thus far, and drop little or no gold in Booty Grab. The official anouncement for this can be found here.
The info is all on the first page, though some of the exchanges were changed last-minute before they announced this. The guide is already updated to reflect the exchanges that were removed or updated. As of this edit, I am only missing the marketplace link for the Aquarium Knight Fish [lite]. Once I see that it's been listed, I will have that edited into the guide. Otherwise, the information should be accurate and complete. Any other lite Aquarium fish you see on the vend come from another source, such as Daily Chance or Dumpster Dive.
If you encounter any issues with the Fishing Exchange, specifically in regards to these new exchanges, please post here.

The update is here!
Finally, after years of waiting and asking for Fishing to get attention, we have an update. This update has new fish of every size in every lake (So we have twice the number of fish to catch except rares). It also includes a new piece of junk.
Along with this comes a host of new items whose number totals even higher than our total currently existing set of items!
As per the poll results, I've highlighted both the new fish and items in the guide, but this time both in blue. The new fish and items are both in the guide here on the front page and also taking up a few posts starting here in case you just want to see what the new stuff is.
Just as a heads up, most of the new species of fish are a little more fiesty in some respect than the ones we're used to with the exception of the goldfish, so keep a good grip on your rods out there.
Regarding the exchange, there have also been some changes there, though only to the new items. Many items now require other things for the creation of an item besides fish. I think Logan has been studying up on alchemy or something. Because of this, you'll want to check the guide carefully because currently items only show up when you have everything you need, which means that even if you have a lot of fish chances are that few if any items will show up at first check. Hopefully Gaia can change things a bit to be like the zOMG exchange in that we can see what we need before we already have it, but that's probably an update for another time.
Additionally, exchange items now have sellback! This means both new and old items can now be sold back via your inventory instead of forcing you to sell them on the vend or via trades. This was actually fixed for older items on December 3rd, but I'm including it in this update because it's part of it, just a part that got out early.
Unfortunately, while updating I found that putting all of the existing items as of this update into one post exceeds the allotted character limit. Because of this I've broken the items up into 3 posts, removing the TF Explains post that never came about and the reserved post. This update brings a lot of things to the table that will make for changes in the guide for weeks to come.
For a simpler list of what is part of the update in some way:
- 27 new fish (3 new small, medium, and large fish in each lake)
- 97 new items, including new items for rares (100 if you count aquarium fish)
- Rares can now be made from 1,000 large fish
- The debut of the Angelic Rod (coming with site wide announcement)
- New system of exchanging which includes non-fish items
- Sellback for all items not made with rares (Implemented Dec 3rd)
- New Fishing page (coming with site wide announcement)
Unfortunately, due to my responsibilities having changed, I've not had time to fish as much as I used to. This keeps me a bit out of the loop to all of the currently changing issues with the game. As such, this section won't cover all of the issues, just a small number of long lasting, significant ones. For a more specific list, with workarounds, check out this thread.
