As some of you may have already seen from the trial run for testing, we have added CAPTCHA to Fishing to help prevent abuse. 3nodding The top scoreboards have been scrubbed of the bots too! eek

    June 24, 2008 update: We are happy to report that progress is being made on these improvements. Fishing will need to be turned on so our wonderful developers can test out the improvements. We will announce officially when the game is released for everyone. 3nodding Please wait for this announcement to play again!

    Today I bring you a very bittersweet message about Gaia Fishing. This, one of our first games ever on Gaia, is in need of some upgrading. In order to perform this upgrading to the best of our abilities, we must turn all of Fishing off for at least a week. Fishing will officially be turned off on June 13th, 2008 for at least one week.

    While we realize this will be a difficult time for all of our avid fishers, we promise that when Fishing returns, you will be pleased with the results!

    Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience of needing to turn Fishing complete off in order to make these upgrades - we hope you understand!

I hope this has to do with fixing the botting problems, as mentioned in both fin's and panagrammic's journals. However they both seem to think that a fix for botting lies further in to the future, so I try not to get my hopes up too much.

Anyway, if it'll make fishing better, I'm all for it. It would have been nice with a bit more warning, though; that way, I could have planned to go visit my parents this weekend instead of next and thereby had a chance of 20-some extra fishing hours in this contest, if the upgrade doesn't take longer than a week.

Also, I'm sure that fishers competing for Overall and taking one lake at a time might not qualify because they hadn't planned with fishing being down for at least one week.

wanna try fixing the word bump game also? it's been broken for 4 days now. everybody is getting the same error on lvl 30 and cant get their rewarded items or advance to further levels.

Preemptive thanks. Fishers have been waiting months for admin action to stop bots. blaugh

Out of curiosity, which developer(s) are going to be working on fishing?

If it turns out to be more work than expected and fishing isn't re-enabled until partway into July, how will the competition be handled?

As much as I will missing fishing while it is down, I am glad that it is now getting some much needed attention. the past few months haven't been that enjoyable, fighting the bots, the lost buckets, the servers being down ect. Fix it good! PLEASE

I'm assuming something will be done about the botters, I would take that as a given.

So I'm curious if we can get a preview as to what else will be going on? I've lurked in that Fishy Love thread for some time now and am wondering if any of those suggestions will be implemented? (For those that have not read the thread, it's about new items: equippable fishing clothes and rods, fish armor or plushies, things like that.)

I'll miss fishing but I really do hope this takes care of the botting problem as well as the few other known problems (not saving, theforever loading screen, ect...). Good luck and I can;t wait to see what the upgrades do smile

Without fishing, I will feel like one of my arms is missing. When I saw pinball next to word bump on the Games page today, I froze. But I understand this is for the best.
I just need to find something else to do, which I will be able to do easily, because... I am not addicted to it. Of course I'm not... What? I'm not... [starts getting into abstinence crisis]

I do wonder what will happen to Blue Bass prices since there are still people doing Liam's Quest. *Sigh.* I know a couple friends of mine are going to wait a few days before liquidating their stock (I would, but I haven't fished in Bass'ken in forever).

Still here's hoping there will be more items that we can exchange fish for. I'm not too enthusiastic about finny ears or caps.
