I'll allow a squared size of 550x550 pixels. If you don't actually use the free space, I'd prefer that you crop the unused space though.

I don't have any preference for the format really, but I would rather suggest you png or gif. The compression of jpg is mostly good when you have a lot of colors in it like photos, so it's not really fit to have a clear picture with your drawing.
