Because everyone else had to work their way up to that status
Mine just auto-starts there
Which means she's weaker than everyone else in her class
And for this story line, there's a bond you form with your partner
By senior level, everyone's super bonded and getting along, where as my girl knows nothing about her partner and has no grip on her new powers yet
Super disadvantages all around

That's the problem. It's not a joke.
My partner is a senior who lost her previous partners.
So in order to be her partner, I have to be bumped up to a senior too.
