For those of you who are not following us around the internet, there is a
video on our YouTube channel discussing what we hope the near future of the GTC will be and what we require to make that happen.
In addition to that video, if the GTC does come off hiatus, temporarily or not, there are some things I'd like to bring to your attention. They're also things I'd rather not have a discussion about. This means I do not want a string of people responding to this post dramatically claiming that they know such-and-such point is directed at them and how sorry they are etc etc.
1. Attendance. Before auditions, there is ALWAYS a schedule up. When there's a schedule up, the schedule is on the front page in the schedule post. Read it. Check your own schedules. You're usually allowed to know you're going to miss a certain number of days (it's usually 2) and still be able to be cast in any role, and if there's an emergency you can't foresee (it happens -- a lot) we obviously can't make you show up. HOWEVER, there is NO excuse to go... oh, sorry, I didn't realize the rehearsals will always be this late, I'm going to have to drop out.
We can sometimes offer you some sort of part if you don't meet the requirements, however, you need to tell us about that before you audition. Not after you have a role. And please don't audition if you're going to drop out if you can't get the role you want.
2. The GTC does hold some social events once in a while; if there's room in our schedule we like to have cast parties for the people in the show and sometimes we do parties for holidays, too. Things like auditions and rehearsals are not social events. Do not go there to hang out and chat, and if you've been in GTC shows in the past, do the newcomers a favor and don't sit in auditions spouting inside jokes or go on about do you remember when we did such-and-such-show.
3. On that note, the GTC thread is only for discussion relating to this project. This is not our rule, this is
a policy of the board we're in. We have a specific thread for you to talk about non-GTC related things with other GTCers,
it is here.
4. If you have some private issue affecting GTC that you need to talk to a higher up at GTC about that is urgent enough not to be PMed, or if you need to tell/ask us something right before a show starts/while it's happening, you're welcome to IM someone. However, all of the founders of GTC have gotten
several people from GTC trying to contact us outside Gaia, everywhere from IM to our personal Facebooks and such, doing everything from sucking up to us to pressuring us to do things. Beyond that, there is this constant attitude that we older GTC members are larger than life somehow and that we have some sort of role greater than just bossing people around at auditions and rehearsals.
We're people. We're users on Gaia just like you. We do not have more power than you do to solve your problems with other people, even if those problems are with GTC people. We also have friends and lives outside of the GTC. Please, talk to us like you would any other stranger you'd stumble across on Gaia -- do not speak to us like we're gods whose feet you should be kissing, but not like our casting you in a show is like we just got on one knee and proposed to you, either.
GTC is a project. We make theater on Gaia. We need to focus on that and making that work, as it hasn't been. GTC in no way confirms or denies your self-worth.
I really hope to be back on the Gaian stage come the end of October.
