TONIGHT (SAT AUG 23) On account of Towns not letting people into houses, we will be performing in the open square to the right of the square the theater is in. Try and get there early and obey the "ushers" -- organizing the audience is more difficult in an open space than in the theater and the quicker we can get people where we need them the more likely the show will start on time.

Crazy? I was crazy once...

I'll be there, I was JUST about to post that houses weren't working. XD
But I decided against it since you guys probably already figured that.
Good luck!

Before anyone asks, I'm pretty sure I know what the show for next month is going to be.

Some people already have heard. Someone dropped a hint tonight. Don't ask me because I won't tell you until I'm sure razz

It's a show we've done before.

If I change my mind, the back up will also be a show we've done before.

There will be no "grandfather clause" next month. People with lifetime exceptions, you know, have them.

Auditions next month will, based on this month's auditions, be as focused on movement and ability to deal with crisis situations as on line speed and emphasis/emotes. If you've gotten in previous shows, don't think you can wing these auditions -- I haven't been that pleased with the improvement of that sort of thing over the past few months, so I'd like to add some pressure for that.

As we go into break week, I'm going to pose some questions. Anyone can answer them.

What do you feel about the removal of audition exceptions for cast members of a previous show?

Do you prefer GTC activities (auditions, rehearsal, and performances) on weekends or weekdays during what is for most people the school year?

Random thing that comes to mind -- if GTC moves its emphasis from rotation casts and doubling to cast + understudies, how do you feel about introducing an ensemble (which, I'd have to think about it, but I'd like to think the show would be able to function with or without) to a) occupy understudies b) give them practice in a performance setting and c) introduce an obligation that might make people show up when they aren't on in a traditional role?

Going off of the above. I'd like to cut down the size of GTC casts to more of the size we had before to try and deal with attendance issues and performance quality not improving as casts get larger. This will mean that, like this month, we have to turn away a lot of people because in a couple hours they can't learn to compare with people who have been here 6+ months User Image And also this month we had several people who were only scheduled to go on two days which seems like a waste, and it also left us with a lot of people to rehearse in the same roles. Think anyone would want to be in our shows bad enough that if they didn't get cast in a role or as an understudy (or if they got cast as an understudy without a guarantee of going on, as we usually give understudies, which is probably the more likely scenario), they'd take an ensemble role? Or swing the ensemble?

Any general thoughts on things that went on this month?

Some of my thoughts are that sometimes I really liked what people did to cover disappearing actors, and a lot of the time I really didn't. We had too much long silences and addressing people who aren't there. We also had a general non-attentiveness that lead to a LOT of late entrances and exits even among people who played the same character a lot and should've known better by then (though I don't fall in the latter category I admit to contributing to the former). I like that attendance was pretty good this month and so I didn't have to stress about it -- I hope that continues.

First off:
Hey guys! I was at the beach this past week, which is why I didnt get to come and see you. I am saddened by this, as you can imagine, but I can't wait to audition for a part in next month's production!

In response to Arqueete:
I think that whichever you prefer to go with as far as the grandfather clause goes, it is totally up to you. I think that without the clause, it will be easier because the judges will have the freedom to choose whoever they want, and not have to worry about saving places for the previous actors whom the grandfather clause pertains to. But on the other hand, it will be harder on the experienced actors, because we will have to be on our toes at auditions like everyone else. Haha
Also, I think that weekends will be best for GTC activities because, what with school starting up, some of us will have to worry about afterschool rehearsals/meetings/etc. But on the weekends, for me anyway, I am usually totally free. But even if the activities DO go to weekends, I think they should still be during the evening... just for various reasons.
But anyway, overall, I plan to audition for next month no matter what =D

Removal of exceptions: If you removed the exceptions, it would give judges freedom to select an entirely new cast that you think would perform better, rather than keeping people simply because of the grandfather clause. As an additional thing, it makes the ones who want to return stay sharp with the acting. ^^ I agree with broadwayboy, it keeps us on our toes. smile

Weekends vs weekdays: I think weekends would be better just because of crazy after-school stuff and late-night studying. However, if you do it on the weekdays, it's better to do it in the evenings for the same reason, perhaps incorporate the weekend as well.

Ensemble: I think it sounds complicated but a good idea, overall. There's more people involved but it does give them room to improve and there's more of a sense of responsibility because they don't have to show up, and possibly go AFK while everyone else is practicing. If they really want to be in the show, and are willing to give time and effort, then it's a good way to incorporate everyone. smile
This post is responding to Arq's post, since I don't want to quote.

Arq: I personally think that this month's show was okay. It wasn't terrible or anything like that, but having 10+ roles isn't something we usually do. The cast rotation was different, so some people may not have been used to that.

- Re-auditioning people who have been in a previous shows may be a good idea, so you could get a better idea for which roles to cast them/not cast them in. But that's your decision.
- I would REALLY like to say this, since I bet this would be a lot easier on me and other people: But I think weekend rehearsals/performances would be great. Like Broadwayboy said, a lot of us have after school meetings (swim team and multimedia club for me), and we also have homework. As for a show time, if a show was on a weekend, I think more people would show up if a show was in the late morning/afternoon, or at a time that is flexible for all US timezones. If this was possible, I would be willing to go for a spot in the cast next month.

So, as for my thoughts on the show:

A. I think that some of the shows started really late. I have no problem with this, but some people may.
B. Overall, this show was good, I guess. Just my opinion.

Gave Previous Shows an overhaul, so now at least there's cast info up for majority of shows and I have a better sense of what we're missing. Still need to go through and add links to the videos on YouTube sometime.

Oh snap! I forgot to add something to what I was saying earlier... I never got to try having the rotation casts where people get assigned different parts each night, but I just wanted to say that in my opinion, I think it would be better if each actor was assigned a specific part, like in Spring Awakening, etc. This is just because I found myself getting a feel for the character I was playing, and it just helped me to really do my best in that performance. But you know, its up to Arq. Like I said, I haven't tried the rotating cast thing so I wouldn't know... it just seems a bit easier to stick to one part each... (if that makes any sense). But yeah, just saying. sweatdrop
