Gaia Community Projects Forum Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to the Gaia Community Projects (GCP) forum! GCP is intended for users to advertise and maintain Gaia-themed projects and community events. The purpose of this forum is to bring users together. Parties, podcasts and the like are allowed, but threads that focus on one person or a group of people, such as members of one specific forum, aren't appropriate. Projects and events should be inclusive of as many different users as possible so that the entire community can benefit.

Before you get started posting here, please read the following few posts to familiarize yourself a bit with the forum and to get a feel for the kinds of threads other users are making here.

As a member, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the forum's rules before posting. Posting in this forum implies that you read and understand the rules and guidelines and that you accept responsibility for the appropriateness of your thread or post.

General Posting Guidelines

Please be sure to follow the Terms of Service and Rules and Guidelines here, as in all forums. A few specific examples of things to avoid:

  1. Spamming
Posts must be kept on topic for the thread you are posting in. "Quoting for Emphasis", excessive bumping, telling people their threads are misplaced and creating threads with misleading titles or information will be treated as spam. We do understand that with all projects there will be tangents and some off-topic discussion, but we urge you to try and keep this under control! Should a thread become a "hangout" for its regulars, it will be moved.

Threads creators have the ability to delete light spam posts in their thread. If a user is excessively spamming, please report them.

  2. Flaming. Sarcastic, unhelpful, or abusive comments like "GTFO" and "You fail" are not permitted, especially in misplaced threads, since they are ToS violations.

  3. Trolling. Threads that contain shock images or provoke certain groups of users are troll threads. Events and projects created as part of a hateful agenda will be treated as trolling and/or harassment.

Terms of Service violations may result in a warning and ban on your account.

Please remember that you should NOT quote ToS violations; it is almost as bad as making the original post. Quoting violations only makes them more visible and we don't want that.

If you find Terms of Service violations, or threads that may need moved to a different forum, please use an appropriate report. The procedures for doing so can be found here.

You can find online moderators by following the "View Forum Moderators" link at the top of the forum.

Rules & Guidelines for Posting in Gaia Community Projects

We ask that any project or event creates only one thread in order to keep the forum clean. If the nature of your project is such that you release new content every week, please update your existing thread to reflect this instead of creating a new one.

  • Projects
Projects are anything designed to bring the community closer together, help other members of the community or enrich the experience of other Gaians. They can take many forms; guides and wikis, podcasts and radio shows, newspapers and magazines, user-created religions and astrological star-signs being some of the most popular.

In the case of some projects, such as Wikis and image galleries, it may be more convenient for you to host them off-site. This is fine, so long as it is not being hosted off-site to abuse Gaia's Terms of Service.

Threads for projects cannot simply be advertisements and must contain discussion-provoking content.

  • Events
Events, or those threads planning Gaia-related events, both belong here. Theme-days that encourage users to dress a particular way, balls to celebrate national holidays, and everything in between are welcome.

Since the purpose of events is to bring people together, off-topic chatter is permitted. However, events must be clear on their start and end-dates; continuing to chat in an event thread once it has closed will be considered spam.

The following types of threads, however, are not appropriate and should be created in other forums:

Please remember that being a frequent visitor to the forum does not make you exempt from these rules!

Report Hacking, Scamming or Abuse & Harassment?

The Hacking, Scamming and Abuse or Harassment report forms can be found at the bottom of the forum index. When submitting a report, ensure that you fill out all fields and include as much relevant information as possible.

    Report A Hacking
Use this form to report a Hacking. Hacking, on Gaia Online, refers to the unauthorized access of an account by someone other than the account owner. In most typical hacking cases, an unauthorized person enters an account which does not belong to him or her and takes items or gold from the account, often changing the account information so that the original owner can no longer access his or her account.

    Report A Scamming
Use this form to report a Scamming. Scamming is when another member of Gaia takes your gold or items, or tries to take your gold or items, by making false promises of giving you rare items, get-rich-quick schemes, or by any other deceptive means. Scamming generally involves a situation in which two members of Gaia make an arrangement to trade gold, items, or a Gaia approved service (e.g. avatar art commission) with each other and then one of the parties involved in the arrangement fails to live up to his or her promise of an exchange.

    Report Abuse or Harassment
Use this form to report ongoing Abuse or Harassment. If you are reporting harassment or abuse that is occurring directly in a thread, please use the "Report This Post" button instead.
