You're right about this not being the right forum to post in, as far as getting the attention of Gaia Staff who can adjust what items are in the shops. I can offer you this info: the Glittering Carnival Set is found occasionally in Daily Chance. So your best bet for getting an item from that set is to collect from all six Daily Chance carts every day, as well as watching the Marketplace and Exchange Forum like a hawk.

Hello everyone, ATA will start at 5pm today. Before that, I just wanted to share with all of you a message from us:

Last week was a tough week for all of us as we had to say goodbye to many of the staff members here in Gaia HQ. Those individuals were not only staff members but some of our closest friends, so there have been a lot of sleepless nights and high emotions for many of us. We've been partners in building such great features for Gaia, and it's tough to say goodbye to people we have grown to love.

The downsizing which happened last week was an unfortunate necessity of needing to balance our budget. Our new CEO Gary had a tough decision to make - he had to decide how many staff members we can afford to retain given the amount of revenue Gaia makes. Unlike Gaia Online (with dedicated members like you as our audience), not all of our new projects have turned out to be as successful as we anticipated. When projects don't turn out as well as expected, a company has to review the situation, and take steps to ensure the budget is balanced, and that the company is in a good position to continue going forward. As painful as last week's downsizing was, it was done in order to ensure that Gaia continues to remain a viable and vibrant community.

Please know that Gary, and all of us in the Gaia Online office, feel the strong presence of the Gaia Online community. Gary did what he could to prevent interruption of Gaia Online's features. As a result, all the engineers who had been programming for Gaia Online currently are all here, and dedicated to continuing to support the current site as well as creating the next set of features, events, and various updates.

One thing we want you to be aware of is this: We've heard your feedback, and the focus moving forward will be even more towards our Gaia Online community, and working to continue maintaining and growing this amazing site. We've made the decision to put less focus on multiple game titles, and the consolidation of teams (such as Heralds of Chaos) is what happened last week. While we aren't going to say that we'll never work on other off-site projects again, the focus is back on you, our loyal Gaia community.

We do understand that even though some team members had been working on these new game titles in the past years, most of these staff members had produced great features in the past, and their contributions will be missed and shall always be remembered. All staff members here at Gaia treat each other like family. And although this event is painful for us, we are friends forever and for many of us our paths will cross again at one point or another. Gaia is still a big family today, with over 50 staff members, dedicated to making things fun for all of you.

I hear the team is almost finished with the next major update. Codemonkey already posted some of the future plans of Towns 2, up to 2015. I was wondering if weather, such as rain, is possibly on that list of plans?

Houses currently can not be downgraded. New houses will be out soon, maybe that will fix your problem. Probably no pools this year.

I love you guys and I wouldn't have stuck around for nine+ years and giving feedback if I didn't. That being said, I really wish you would learn from your mistakes and quit pouring money and people into projects that you can't support. I understand the need for expansion, but Gaia has had a vast and rich history of developing features, cutting the staff for said projects and letting the feature fester and die. It's unsettling.

That being said, RumbleKitten's daily prize has been broken since the last update.

Thanks, in my signature, I have a link to a Role Play I made and I would love it if it was moved from 'The Gaia Neighborhood' to 'Barton Town'. I made it a few days ago and have only two others joined, one being my friend. I would appreciate that very much if you could have it moved.

Meebo was purchased recently by Google and they've decided to discontinue the toolbar as of June 6th so they can focus more on Google+ integration. Im constantly being diverted to a page telling to download "extreme flash player"

It doesn't seem to be related to Adobe, and Im only being diverted when I'm on Gaia. It happens about every fifteen minutes and is really annoying, and only began happening after I downloaded one of the "free cash" programs (can't remember which promotion, but it was worth 40gcash).

So I finally opted to download the program but my virus protector blocked it and labeled it as "extremely Malicious"

Again, I'm only being diverted when I'm on gaia. I've even removed every non-essential program I have installed to see if I had already downloaded something dangerous, yet the problem persists, so my conclusion is it has something to do with Gaia itself gonk

So far nothing bad has happened, it's just incredibly irritating and annoying.

Any ideas/solutions?

It sounds like some malware managed to get on your system. You might not have completely removed it.

Another site I frequent has had hard drive issues leading to month long downtimes and rebuilds from backups. How d you guys keep the system up so well to the point that any downtime is momentary?

We've genetically modified our hamsters to be the top-of-the-line breeds so they never tire. Realistically, we just have an awesome Operations/IT team.

Why does it take so long for the staff to work through tickets?

This isn't a personal question, but one example is that I had access to my account before my ticket was even looked at, after being on hiatus.

Tickets take time depending on what the situation is and how backed up we are, there are times we can get flooded and have to try to dig ourselves out while trying to balance other queues such as hacking, scammings, ban appeals, account inquiries, etc. It's just a matter of having a lot of work and trying to take care of issues ASAP.

Yay, for once I get to join this time with out being blocked. I have a few questions. Why don't we have maintenance feature for our profiles. Like I can click some thing and those that want to see it know that's it being work. Instead of just seeing my last update, or blocking completely. And also how come there isn't a form for some people to go to get an image verified. Like for example, maybe there is image some one wants to post and they want to keep PG-13, but they are not sure if that image is PG-13. I've seen some that I've wanted to post, but I was never sure cause I could never get a hold of an admin to find out. And I always try my best to follow the rules, but I would hate to post a pic in my signature that was considered inappropriate.

For image "verification," if you're worried about an image that is inappropriate then you can send a PM to a moderator and get their thoughts on the image before posting it.

It's on our list of things to update this year but there's no specific ETA yet.

Lately I've been seeing some people that are getting banned because they get a lot of gold all of a sudden. ouo I just let my friend borrow about 1.3mil so she could buy a sweetheart ring, and we have an agreement that she is going to pay me back next month. But if we do it via trade could I get banned from it?
How do you decide how you ban people when they get a lot of gold though trades because artist will do that and some get paid millions for it. How would you decide whither or not to ban them?

A lot of these situations where someone is banned for "just simply receiving a lot of gold all of a sudden" are actually cases of these people buying Gaia Gold from an off-site website. If you and your friend agreed to just trade 1.3mil as a donation and aren't actually selling it, then it would be fine. We have very specific ways of identifying gold buying based on activity and other things that I won't get into so that people don't try to evade the system. ninja

I've got but six questions today. And I'd appreciate it better then anything now that I have my black hair!

1. I have a friend who was temp-banned twice based on old reports that he had on him from months ago. Why is this so and why should trolling cyberers be considered as flaming and harassment? Personally I think they deserved it.

2. What will become of instant messaging on here without meebo? Will gaia make its own?

3. Gaia is considered a pg-13 site. Yet why do you make items that continue to entice people to look like pardon my language, sluts, and the link which also bring more cybering into our fair site?

4. Will gaia ever make a sister site for those of us over 18? I think it will be better off for those of us over 18 like myself who don't want to be hit on by little preteens 12-17 of age.

5. To get rid of underaged gaians (meaning anyone under 13) would gaia be willing to have some sort of actual parental submit thing where the parents have to be called and tell whoever is wanting to join that he/she is 13+?

6. I've filled out reports on this one person for over a year now. I even moved back to an old acc to escape her and yet she continues to find me saying shes tracking me by my ip. Now its not only me shes harassing by my friend Kiro as well in his club hangout thread. Is there any such thing as an IP ban? Yes I've filled out a harassment report, but all I keep getting back is the old screamings I gave her for continuously following me using acc, after acc, after acc. And right now she has used 39 accounts to get to me and has even pretended to be a boy to hit on me since I'm gay.

1. Just because someone is violating the rules does not give you, or anyone, the right to flame or harass other users. Simply report them and move on. There is no reason to harass these users.

3. People will do with their items what they will, if a user is encouraged to cyber based on their items then I'd argue that they wanted to cyber in the first place. The items don't make the decision for the activity you do on the site.

6. We do not do IP bans because there are too many situations where innocent users could be affected or a user can get around it. I'm sorry to hear that this user is abusing you, all I can recommend is that you keep reporting this person when they abuse you.

Not maybe an exact date, but more is there any sort of plan to release one soon or even just in the future? Or is there a particular reason it's only been a lot of Rapid EI's rather than full Evolving Items? I'm very curious and I'd really love an answer!

I was wondering you guys was working on comeing of with a bored game here on gaia. That is a awsome idea but i was wondering if you guys would concider haveing like a farm ville game here on gaia instead of facebook?

We've had a few opportunities with games like Farmville, which are social games here on Gaia. Games such as Backyard Monsters, to Summer Springs and Soul Crash were among those games. unfortunately for games that are not created by Gaia, when they are not successful, their creators have to pull their games out which were unfortunate. Moving forward, we'll focus back on features that we create ourselves.

1. Is there a chance in the future that one can reserve so many pages so that when making a new thread the owner can say I need a 100 pages and on each of the pages so many post? This would be nice for the ones of us that make multiple glow threads, charity threads and more.

2. Will Towns 2 in the future be more like towns 1 where you can hunt for flowers, trash, bugs etc... Plus able to go to your home and your friends home to visit and decorate?

Hey Gaia I'm happy to be able to share the first official description of the Gaia Online Frontier Skies Board Game.

Based on the popular steampunk-themed minigame, Frontier Skies brings players on a tabletop journey through the unique world of Gaia Online.

Frontier Skies transforms the art, characters and world of Gaia Online into an exciting adventure with strategic decisions at every turn. Players will compete to build the finest airship while managing their crew, stockpiling supplies and maintaining their valuable discoveries-- only the most cunning captain can rule the Frontier Skies as the richest adventurer around!

Frontier Skies is played by 2 to 4 players ages 12 and up. Play time runs between 60 to 90 minutes.

The game consists of four seasons, spanning a total of 12 rounds of play. Each round consists of four phases: market, adventure, trade and draw.

During the market phase, players compete in an open market to purchase new and upgraded parts for their air ship. Purchasing new ship parts improves speed, attack power and cargo capacity giving players special bonuses and extra space to carry valuable Discoveries.

In the adventure phase players embark on a new journey by revealing the top card in the adventure deck. What strange experiences and valuable discoveries await?

The trade phase allows players to trade discoveries with each other, deciding which are worth keeping and which should be sold off to gain gold and free up cargo capacity for their next adventure.

During the draw phase, players activate special abilities, gain an additional discovery and compete for end-of-season and end-of-game goals which reward players with even more gold.

At the end of the final round, each player calculates their total value to find out which captain has amassed the greatest riches!

Sorry gang, nothing new to report on this subject. We'll let you know once more bug fixes are done, and once we need help testing some issues. Not to worry, you haven't been forgotten! Inventory Arranger - Any updates?
We're still working on the inventory arranger - it's coming along nicely, but again, it's a big project. Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas on how to improve the inventory arranger - we'll definitely consider the proposals!

Guilds - Are you going to fix them?
Not right now - as we have said before, Guilds is a massive undertaking and currently not top priority. That said, it is on our road-map, or "to do" list, and we'll try to get to Guilds when we are able to do so.

We're so sorry if there has been a delay in resolving your ticket or issue. We try our best to get to everyone as quickly as possible, but some issues simply take longer to resolve than others. Some things I'd like to see in the new housing:

1. Give us rooms! instead of just one big space...I'd be glad to pay for a second
room! (not millions or even hundreds of thousands, but maybe 50k?)

2. Let us have a second house, for a vacation house! Why not, we'd be willing to pay
for them, it would be a great gold sink. In fact, I'd really like to have a house in every
area, to fit different moods, and let me decorate with different styles. Make a second
house cost 50k, third 100k, and fourth 150k - this plus the increased furnishings sales
in the Faktori would make a huge gold sink.

3. Make the houses rotatable - in other words, we can turn our point of view and use
all four wlls for doors windows or art etc. This would apply to visitors also - go in and
turn so you can see all of the house from different points of view.

4. And lastly, update the arranger. Remember Backyard Monsters Yard Planner? I'd
love to see an arranger like that, where we are looking down on it and placing our
furniture more easily. You'd have to use a little thought - stacking would be in the
order you put the items in, so if you put your bread first and then the fridge on top
of it, well you've just squished your bread, lol!
But as long as you use some sense, this would be ever so much easier for arranging.

Also, can you make it so we can access the red house icon anywhere in Barton, at the least, if not
anywhere in neighborhoods.

Every house is tied to the person who owns it. Once you move from a singular, to a plural of anything, it becomes much more complicated.

Quick question about housing.

A lot of users were surprised to see how upmarket the supposedly gothic and vampire infested Durem turned out. Obviously that design is very cute and I know a lot of people are enjoying it as we speak but are there any plans to add multiple neighbourhood types per city in the future (and if not do you think there ought to be)?

Right now, there are no plans to add different styles of neighborhoods.

Will we be getting a furniture update soon? And since we don't seem to get them with new houses anymore can you please put starter furniture sets in the Faktori?

I know it will be a lot of work for everyone, but is there a chance for multiple rooms in houses now? If it is possible coild we also have a "back Yard" area for gardens so it won't affect the neighborhood area?

Hey admin smile Is it possible for a gaian to lose their items for some reason?
I know a guy who was complaining that he was just at towns, then he was suddenly logged out, his account info was changed but was later on able to retrieve it.

By the time he got it back numerous items were taken away.
Trade history, even the gifting history was empty.

How can this be possible for somebody to lose items that fast?

Sounds like this person was hacked, he should file a hack report. There is no possible way for someone to delete their trade/gifting history.

Yeah i know. but that's what puzzles me is that why would the trade history and gifting history be empty?

There are multiple ways to get rid of items, the vend, selling them to the gold shop, sending them to dumpster dive, etc.

My mother tongue is Spanish I understand what the slang means very well.

so I tried to be polite but the user's response was even more rude.

if the user we're blocking has a long term thread in that forum we will be seeing that topic block notice in red letter at the bottom of the page. i think its like a punishment for both sides for him and for me, like a double dagger.

also my thread followers/lurkers may react and curse him for that post. A post deletion will be the appropriate move to avoid further incidents.

Sorry that you've went through so much trouble, unfortunately there are limitations to the ignore system as things such as quoting isn't made dynamic to the point where ignored posts are also deleted. Maybe in the future there would be such as feature.

As for deleting posts, each forum has their rules and guidelines, it's not a matter of what we can do on a technical level, but what makes sense for the type of discussion happening. In your case, I'm afraid we won't be adding deletion features on other forums. You're welcome to share your thoughts and concerns with us, and we'll take your thoughts into consideration.

My friend was banned a while ago. Well, he was complaining to me about having to re-earn everything. Me, being me, I did not want to hear it; so, I told him to go to the ATA and ask you all. Well, he was doubting a cheerful response.

So, his question is: What is the chance of getting a banned account back?

Depends on the circumstances involved in the banning. He would have to discuss that when he files the ticket for the ban review. Every issue is different.

And we don't bite. Well, maybe Zero does a bit, but he's been good lately.

Hello admins, I think this is the first time I have asked anything at these meetings, but here it goes.

I was curious if it would be possible to get a list of the current Gaia admin/mods/devs/artists/etc. The reason I ask this is because most of the lists I've come across are outdated and with Gaia Spirit Week a couple months away, we'd like to make sure that we're pointing people in the right direction if they want to drop some love. c:

Also, is there a Spotlight for user-run events? I know we've had one in the past (GSW was featured in it before), but I haven't seen anything like that as of late. I thought I would ask, since GSW would certainly like to get in on that, because it's always great to bring in people that are new to the event.

Lastly, something un-related to Spirit Week; could we please get a regular-ol' Evolving Item? The RIE we've gotten lately are nice, but not quite my tastes, and I know a few other users agree. Not saying "Don't make any RIE" but just tossing in a couple of the traditional EI throughout the course of this year would be nice.

I'd also like to say that Towns 2 looks fabulous! It was a bit confusing at first, but after the chaos cleared, I really like the update.

Been a while since I've been to one of these, thought I'd give my feedback on housing.
I love Barton and Gambino's look, they look very 3 dimensional in their 2D environments. I haven't checked out Durem yet, but Aekea... the buildings there look a little flat in comparison to the other towns. Don't get me wrong, it's still really pretty and I congratulate the people working on it but... compared to the others... it appears very 2 dimensional. sweatdrop

Now onto my questions:

1. Any new summer event news? I noticed you didn't put that on the FAQ. emotion_awesome

2. How would you guys respond to a mass of users deleting a whole bunch of "specific" items in a user-run event with the intent on making them non-existent in the database? Just uh... just curious.

I am having trouble with Towns 2....I think I finally got my house placed/accepted, though I don't even know WHERE, then I found all of my house out of my old house/storage and in my active invo and gave up trying to figure it out on my own. Am I supposed to "move" something? I couldn't find an invo on the new house to start decorating...it's all bumfuzzling to me...GAH!

Also, I am VERY interested to know how the collection of trash/bugs/flowers is going to work, as there is no navigation from neighborhood to neighborhood that I can discern, except into and out of my "own" neighborhood via that silly bus...and come to think of it, have only seen 3 bugs--no flowers or trash--in whatever neighborhood I landed in.

How are we alchemists going to find our game item mana, anyway? It does not appear that we can start a straight-line run through neighborhoods in the new Towns...

If any of this has been addressed cogently in some forum or thread I haven't found, I'd be happy to know how to get oriented.

Ok, first things first. Place your house in Towns 2. Go to the boat in towns 2, and click on the house icon. If you have a house it will say "go to my neighborhood" else it will say "create neighborhood".

I was curious as to just how much creative liberty Gaia artists have when designing new items. Are they essentially allowed to create whatever they feel like, or do they have orders handed down to them (such as “we need something green and Viking-themed for this month’s MC”)?

Yup, Gaia artists pretty much have the freedom to choose the theme, category, to style. They collaborate and decide what the major themes are to stay consistent for every release though.

Recommendations has always been an "issue" in AMC, don't think it's gotten really "worse." AMC used to have a lot more traffic too. No ETA yet, it's really whenever I have a few spare minutes to do it and set up rules.

I have to say I love the work you are doing in the houses even if some people don't. I mean I love that we each have our own towns if we choose. That is so cool. Love the landlording options too.

The only thing I hate is the walking. I know you can hold down the shift, but it lags. If you hold down the shift while trying to move into a new area you will never load into it. You have to reload.

Go to settings in the towns smart phone. click avatar options. adjust your speed.

When I placed my home, The style was picked for me. Is this normal, or was that a glitch? I am not very happy about not being allowed to pick My house style.
I really like how well Towns2 is comming together. I cant wait to see what the future holds for it.

Every artist in the Gaia team is chosen because of their unique style and terrific talent. Losing Prism is as bad for us as losing any other artists in our team, and if it happened to anyone else, I wouldn't be able to answer the same question as well. I can only hope that we can improve on our games and offerings so that we can hire back more artists in the future.

Hello This is my first time on Ask the Admin since I always miss it because of college, but anyhow, I had an Idea and I wanted to pass it on and ask if you have ever considered it or why it was never implemented.

I know many people on the RP forums use many special colors like Sandy Brown, Royal Blue, and so on. These colors are not on the color bar and many of the colors on that bar are not used by people since they can be hard to see or they just don't like them. For instance I have a hard time reading text colored with Cyan so I never use it. My question is this. Could the color bar be editable for each and every person, for instance have the basic 13 colors, but then have 13 blank spots under them which can be set in My Gaia for that person?

Hello mods! I know the weather must be nice where you guys are and i will try to keep this short so we can both log out and go hang in the sun. But i created a thread in the dragons be here forum to ask for the dragon npcs as "i am" items, the thread is practically self explanatory. this is just like the moonlight event with the werewolves! just dragons instead! and as u can see i have at least 240 people liking it or supporting it and many others posting they agree with it. so is there a way this can be made a reality? thanks to any devs, artists, and mods who reply in advance.

We might release the dragons as an item at some point in the future but I cannot say this with 100% certainty or if it will be anytime soon. I'm glad so many people enjoyed the event!

When are you going to update the image caching API? Many Photobucket images still are not loading. The problem is the Photobucket redirects, the status code is 301 permanently moved.
When removing the cache from the image source it loads, also when placing it in a non-image caching site, the image loads just fine as well. Many people are blaming Photobucket, but it's the cache system not using the new image URI provided.

Well, not at this time. It may make sense in Gambino or Barton, but it would not in Akea or Durem. Maybe for the future.

That's not really a viable solution...We're already working on many of the features people ask about and they continue to ask anyway, we can't exactly work more to make them ask less. The issue isn't things not being done, it's people who don't take the time to read over any post that isn't their own and there's nothing we can do to force them to read it either. The FAQ is there for those who do take time to read and will see it and have their question answered. Those who ask anyway will just ask anyway and probably shouldn't be surprised if their questions don't get an actual response from us since we gave it to them up front.

Yeah, the FAQ was just an attempt to put info out there in case anyone posted a similar question but didn't get an answer directly. biggrin

Sorry but it's unlikely that the Mecha-Neko items will open up to other countries once they've been released, as sponsorship opportunity come to Gaia form the license holder, and we don't have the right to give out items, as much as we want to . At the same time, the license holder for one country usually have no ties to license holder for another country so we won't have the opportunity to expand the availability of those items. Hope that makes sense.

1. Why is it that certain items (i.e., items that most people would consider useless, or items that have a severely limited quantity in circulation) don't have a "Trash" option at all, and only have an option to be donated?

2. Instead of using a third-party footer that can often malfunction and/or become glitched, why hasn't Gaia improved its own footer bar so that it works better than the now-defunct "Meebo" bar?

3. Are the "private neighborhoods" in Towns 2 going to remain private, or will they eventually be opened up to allow anyone to move into them, regardless of who the current "landlord" is?

I can only answer to the towns question. The neighborhoods will remain that way. We designed it so you can have your friends live nearby. You are welcome to get your own neighborhood, and be the landlord.

As for alchemy I think what would be awesome is when you open a an alchemist case, there would be a number. That number would determine what level formula you would get. As for the formula it could still be random. Of course the level 1 would be the rarest, because of the Inizio formulas.

Have you ever had a pet die? What'd you do to cope with the loss and get over it?

I recently had my 13 year old cat die, and she was my most cherished baby. I'm only 19, but I feel like that was the closest thing to being a parent. The crushing feeling of watching her struggle to eat, or being force-fed water to try and keep her hydrated. That last moment where you realize its done, it's over. She's not the same cat you used to know.

I keep expecting her to pop up while I'm around the house and it's crushing me every time I turn the corner. I feel like you guys are old enough to have had a few pets and lived through their deaths.

I haven't had a pet that close to my life die yet (although my oldest cat will eventually get there, she's pretty old now), I've been unfortunate to come across a lot of my cats that have been hit by cars. So unfortunately I can only really give you the same advice I give to others who have lost loved ones. Loved ones are never really gone if you keep your happy memories with them alive, they will always be there looking out for you. Definitely take some time to yourself to adjust and understand what happened, it's not your fault that anything happened. However, never forget the good memories.

When is the inventory organizer going to come out? was there ever a BETA? Or did I miss out completely? I'm an active lurker/member on gaia and i tried to stay up to date with staff alerts but I haven't heard any positive news on this in a while; did you guys give up on it?

I desperately want some sort of invo organizer. Those of us with 1000+ items on one account aren't holding up to well here.

Recently I was thinking about how awesome it would be if you guys did a Monthly NPC Q&A similar to the AtA--only it would feature one or two NPCs a month that the community could ask questions. It would be awesome and a relatively easy way to get some NPC/community interaction. Not to mention a relatively simple way to drop plot/event hints. Any way I can get you guys to ever consider doing this?

I haven't been able to make these in forever, so my post is word heavy.
I'm posting stuff from my feedback threads I really want staff to read so I'm pasting here.
I have hope for where Gaia is going.

A note for the dragon event:

I really appreciate getting to see the staff active in one place like with some of the mods do in CB here and there. It has made me feel more connected.
Getting to see Reapersun get slain was hilarious.
Then Ebsawhatever posting about having eaten her after sitting on her corpse.

I may not have gotten all the horns I wanted, yet, but I love seeing staff members on the site.
I feel it reinvigorates the community. That's my favorite part about this event. Not the items, but the feeling I'm getting from a community.

I recognize faces from different forums I go to and it's really fun for me to see everyone in one place that's not being incredibly spammed. Good job on centralizing the spam posts to sticky threads. It makes the main part of the forum tolerable and fun.

I think this is a good event that has points that could be utilized in the future to improve existing types of events.

Like I said centralizing the spam posts to individual threads (or subforums) and having the staff be active and interact with the community. Including moderators.
I also found it clever we got to participate in the creation of this event via the poll voting on pets. That brings a whole other level of being interactive with the site and what happens to it. I feel like I'm more apart of Gaia right now than I do just someone posting on the forum

I loved how interactive with the community the dragon event was and it reminded me of how big the community feeling was when I joined. It was smaller and easier back then, but I have hope the site can get back to focusing on community and less on making money on cash shop items. I feel the site is item focused and that's where it's been going wrong. It doesn't create a long term connection with users and they're more likely to throw away the site, I think. Having more angles to hook users is a way I think Gaia can survive long term.

Like there are so many items now, I don't even care to look at all the items when there's an update.

About towns and houses:

I was thinking it'd be really cool if everyone had a guest book in their house that would basically post a comment on that person's profile like regular comments.


I also think it'd be awesome to have neighborhoods linked so you can have more than one screen and more friends in your area and can navigate off the page by walking like in original towns. I liked how you could all be near and in walkings distance.

It'd also be nice to have an option to open towns straight to your house so you can forgo the landing town.

I'd also love the ability to lower quality because I'm on an older computer that has a harder time dealing with newer sites like the towns 2 and threadless and colossal without freezing

I also think gardens would be lovely to have in that walking space outside the house. Or on someone's house you could click to enter house or click to enter their Garden and the backdrop would be different based on the style of house and location of the person. It'd give another aspect to the site for users to enjoy and could even be a mini game to keep people where you have to periodically water your plants or they'll die like in aquariums.
Or users could have the option to put the garden on pause, ceasing and growth or possible money gain if they don't want to play or continue to plant and water.

I also think it'd be really awesome if we had slots like in dress up where we can save our house layouts.

It'd save a lot of time.
You can buy more slots and whatever.

I think this towns up date would be a great way to integrate housing and make it more of a feature because there's more promise and excitement to turning it into a bigger feature.

I've spent a couple hours on my house now that I haven't spent all together in the past year.

Also if there's ever a pet system, we could leave our pet in the house.
There's tons of potential for all kinds of integration with new towns I feel

I feel like this update has tons of potential to pull new users and keep old ones. It just needs a few fixes, regular updates like with the avatar systems, and advertisement. There's an entirely new niche with houses and possibly a garden game that could earn Gaia more support.

Will Towns 1 be closing? If so, would it be possible for an approximation (weeks, months, years) I ask because Towns was a big part of doing screenshots for Gaia Spirit Week and we needed to make plans if Towns should be closing, aside from limiting it to just a Friends Chat, so that new users or passerbys can join in.

I was curious if Towns 2 had 'layers' similar to zOMG, or if it is just like Towns 1 except newer and prettier looking.

Another questions about Towns 2; Approximately how many people can fit in one area at one time, either 'common' area, a user's house, or otherwise.

Have you guys ever thought of fixing how changing genders works? Because while changing genders is a sorta big thing, the 50k price is pretty steep. I think that either the potions should be cheaper, or the method of changing gender should be changed.

Why? Well I have a female OC that I'd LOVE to cosplay. The only problem is, when I decide to change back. When I decide to change back, it's going to cost me 100k in the end to be able to do it again.

Thoughts and opinions on the matter?

I think 50k is actually pretty reasonable, it used to increment 10k each change, so some users would have to pay upwards to 200k for a gender change.

Hello gaia, just the other day I was on skype and my friend allowed someone into the room who said he needed to talk to me.

This person ended up harassing me and threatening to have my gaia account banned and hacked with a so called botting system.

The thing is I put out a harassment report from it but I had no proof because it was all said over mircophone.

So I ask is there anything I can do since I know the person's username of two different accounts?

Also on a side note the chance items again have been less giving. I spent over 60$ on gaia cash to try and win big and barely made anything. Is there any way to increase the chances of a pay out for all gaians in the near future?

Because not only me but many of my friends who buy gaia cash didn't get anything from the rigs and we like...religiously buy cash every month to try and win big.

Also when will alchemy items get a cap on how much they can charge for them? the wings alone people are asking for more then it would be to buy an angelic halo for christs sake.

As I'm sure you were expecting, a bunch of us in the aquarium community are concerned with the recent changes and possible future ones. We understand there's things that need to be re-worked. We're hoping that in the future, we have more of a fair warning beforehand and that we can work together to fix issues.

With that said, we've come up with a couple ideas:

Fellow tank owner, tsubaki01, came up with an idea for taxing gold earned after reaching the cap. So, normal grabbing until 100k is reached. After that, the old 150k cap is available, but that gold gets taxed by 10% (or whatever would be fair). It would work similar to how the marketplace tax works.

Another tank owner, jadedrenee, thought of an idea where people that spend a certain amount of Gaia cash on fish, like 250GC, can grab to the old cap amount. This would work similar to how people can spend GC to avoid seeing ads for the month.

Please consider our ideas, show us any data that helps you form decisions, and be clear with us. We love Gaia, but Gaia Aquarium is our home!

The idea for a tax would only work if a tax is applied to an exchange happening between one user to another. If the central bank (Gaia) is giving money away and taxing it, that would be no different than Gaia giving out less money in the first place, which is a cap of 135k instead. Tax is spent differently between the real government and Gaia, the government uses tax money for funding various services for the country, while Gaia's tax, or any reduction in payout, is all for controlling inflation.

I have couple questions - so lets get to it ^^;

For the new housing, me and my close friend weren't sure exactly how to 'buy/ get' a house. So we spent about an hour clicking around the area we wanted. She got her house, but mines didn't exactly show up for a long time until it out of the blue, it just dropped on me, causing me to get stuck. Took about 3 refreshes get out of the area where my house landed.
I would like to know, is this going to be fixed - making house purchase easier?

Another - My friend told me there's a limit on 'items' collection on gaia. Or rather, an inventory limit. You cannot go over it or it could lead to a ban of sorts. I honestly believed him and didn't collect items/ keep them for over a month- if not 3 months.
Would you mind telling me if this is a true?
I kinda wish to get back some collective items from back in the day..

Houses for Towns2 is great. It really is a more pleasant system. Just one thing, and I know it's a big ask. I saw a house in Virtual Hollywood with multiple rooms and it made me think Habbo-style... is there light on the horizon that there may on day be multiple layouts to choose from (p2p or otherwise) so we can build an actual house, rather than just one room?

Hey Lanzer, just had to say -Technically the new StarTrek movies don't aim to reboot the main continuity, they are set in an "alternate universe" as not to step on the toes of the original stories. However, I do think these two new movies have shined a lot stronger than any StarTrek movie ever has, just from public opinion, without looking at sales figures.

My question returns.

Could we get an updated rally? Such as a few new choices in racing tracks, and perhaps some new cars + parts, it’s just something I had in mind and others as well have stated stuff like this from time to time.

Such items like more cars racing at the same time 2, 3 and 4 people at once. New obstacles and perhaps things could get upped even further. Such as what instead of just having cars, we can also have planes and boats to race with at the rally. I think it would be nice to have more verity is all. So what are your thoughts on the matter, could this happen one day? The world of gaia wants to know.

And even more so a new look. Such as a beach port, racetrack, airport mix. Also why not have a spokes gaia for each one. Sort of like a top racer for each one, the boats, planes and cars. Yea they could just stand there as a welcome saying what each one is. And even one could provide the option to race a computer to get in some practice racing.

What’s more courses in the rally. One could be a loop around, while another could be a zigzag, the ideas are just endless, so I ask again what do you think about doing this? Could gaia make this happen?

O and perhaps prizes could be won for winning racers. Nothing big little tip gold prizes. Like 25g worth’s.

I'll see what I can do about a new course. Other than that, you imagination is a lot more expansive than my time allows.

❶ will there be more to do in each region (Aekea, Durem, etc)? Gambino has Gambino Town, which is made up of a few different places -- will there be areas like that for Aekea, Durem, and Barton?
❷ can we go the route of Towns 1 a little, in that each neighbourhood has surrounding areas/squares to explore?

Not for now, there are various features yet to build that are not region specific, though that is something we'd love to have and had been discussing alot.

If by any chance you happen to come across an extra code or two throughout your days at the convention then you can give it to a friend for free. However, you shouldn't be going around the convention trying to gather up more as that is not the intent of the Conventioneer achievement.

Greetings, a couple of questions related to Gaia fishing:

1- If more updates are possible, would it be possible to add an emergency save feature? In case the game crashes for whatever reason (internet connections and such), after all Heralds of Chaos and zOMG have them. I assume this would mean re-designing the game?

2- Could you please update the captcha so it matches the one in booty grab and the forums? Its still in the original style and it can be annoying sometimes.

Yeah, unfortunately any changes like those to Fishing would require a pretty hefty overhaul of the game and we just don't have the resources to put toward that currently.

We're not sure why Tektek would be having problems with malware or viruses. Certainly, we're sorry if this is happening for them, but it is not something we, on Gaia, can take care of! Have you contacted their staff and reported the viruses/malware so they know what is going on? As for the possibility of a zOMG! sequel, I don't think that is going to happen. I'd say very slim to nil odds on that happening.

I was very disappointed in Shad the dragon, because it has no animation in zomg. Is there any chance movement will ever be added to this item? Because otherwise I'll get rid of it, it was a waste of gc.

It took a lot of work for the animation to show in Towns and we've recently got that implemented. Since zOMG didn't have that feature when it was made, it will take some effort to get the animation working. I'm afraid we can't have the animation anytime soon.

1. Your Help FAQs for Towns 2 kinda sucks. It took me and a friend 3 hours to figure out how to move her into my neighborhood....because the FAQs didn't say how to. Are you going to fix this oversight??

2. When are we going to get a Double Long Pigtail hairstyle in any other colors besides red, pink, white and sometimes light blue?? What ever happened to Purple, Green, Orange, Etc.(In light and dark shades)?? Do you have some sort of thing against other colors?? There are tons of Anime characters with Purple and such Pigtails, so PLEASE stop focusing on white, red or pink!!

3. Why can we no longer put objects like the G9 Computer into our houses?? I enjoyed putting a few personal touches into my house by leaving clothing on the floor or putting my computer on my desk and such.

How many items are there on Gaia? A simple search on the MP has 23,000+, but I'm thinking of the EIs--like the Gogh Reed, which has dozen of other items inside of it (and I would count those). Is there an actual way to count it all? Or could the staff give us a "as-of-this-writing" total?

I was under the impression that Crosstitch was supposed to be in Durem town, since they had a comic about it, while La Victorie was supposed to be in Gambino Town, just going off the premium/ ritzy aspect of the shop. But what I saw when i was going through the shops, according to the headers that changed with each store, was that going into Crosstitch had a Gambino town beach header, and La Victorie had a header that looked like it was in Aekea. So can anyone tell be if that's right or not? So I'd like to know from the staff where these shops are actually located, since it seems inconsistent.

I have a question about the housing in towns. there has been so many bugs there. mostly I invited some friends to come live in my neighborhood and they built their house there but I cannot see any houses there. and I kept asking could their house be on a different layer or something? plus I invited one of my friends to live with me there but it still says she needed my permission to build in my neighborhood and I kept accepting it but she still couldn't get the permission for it. are you guys still working the towns 2 bugs for this? I hope these bugs are fixed soon

The neighborhoods are not on layers, so I'm not sure what's going on there. We are constantly updating Towns 2.

1. Why is it that certain items (i.e., items that most people would consider useless, or items that have a severely limited quantity in circulation) don't have a "Trash" option at all, and only have an option to be donated?

2. Is Gaia planning at all to improve and/or update its own footer bar so that it works better and/or has better functionality (for those who wish to use it, that is) than the now-defunct "Meebo" bar?

A lot of items were considered as rare when they were introduced, but their roles might have changed later. If there are any specific items that you want to have the trash option, please let me know

We don't have a plan yet, as we prioritize other features before the footer. We used it because there's some useful features (chat) available. We're looking at alternatives right now.

This may have been asked previously however, I was wondering with June quickly approaching, does gaia have any plans for when the Meebo bar is terminated? I believe gaia had a sort of Instant Messanger before Meebo, is there any thought of returning to it?

All I can really say is that we're aware of the date quickly approaching and are still looking into if we can replace it with anything else.

I haven't seen the most recent Star Trek movie, but I am quite a Trekkie, or Trekker, however you want to say it. I did see the one about the alternate time line thing, and my friend's friend has seen the newest movie, I am looking forward to it.

Now then, my question is, and I apologize if someone else has already asked that and you've already answered it and you're thinking 'Again??', and I'm rambling, but anywho, one of my Gaian buddies saw something about you taking Meebo off, is this true? Because I am someone who enjoys using Meebo, since I can reply to people in no time, and I can mutitask.

Star Trek is a very fun movie!

And we didn't make the choice to remove Meebo, the company that created it made that decision. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it as they are shutting things down from their end.

The Meebo toolbar will be going away on June 6th because Google is ending the service. We have no control over it.

1. When we sell an item which have a sellback ending with .5, does it round up or down? If it round down, does that mean unwanted items which have a sellback of 0.5 gold ends up as nothing when you sell them? If so, wouldn't that defeat the fact it's sellable in such a case sweatdrop (ex. Aquarium Cat Bell)

2. Aquarium Driftwood 2 is soulbound. Is there any reason for that or it's just an error?

3. Can we get a quick list of new features which are added in Towns 2.0 once in a while? For example, the fact we can change the speed our avatar walk is really useful but I ended up finding it by error.

4. Are the rare bugs in Towns 2.0 yet? If so, are they limited to some towns like the rest of the bugs or not?

I'll try to post an update of some of the features in Towns 2. I think there are some rare bugs in Towns 2.

I just really want to ask, when are you going to add stuff onto the gaia app? I mean, I know you just fixed a gaia cash or something problem on it this week, but it's also very... low quality, you could say. We have no access to guilds or being about to accept requests, we also do not have a back button, and it's just overall bad quality...

Gaia simply has too many features for us to realistically put into the mobile apps. We chose only the most common features.

I don't really care to see the new Star Trek movie right away. I wouldn't mind renting it on redbox, since I'm more of a Star Trek Next Generation fan myself.

1) Why does Gaia keep having the reputation of never finishing their projects and leaving them with glitches after the games’ releases? Will Towns 2 and Hords of Nords suffer the same fate?

2) Would it be possible for me to eventually use my zOMG! summons in other flash spaces such as Towns 2?

3) Can we get a prunny iam and other grunny recolors?

We've worked on more than 50 projects in the past, and unfortunately not every one of them can be our core feature and be supported for a long time. Towns 2 for example is an update to Towns 1, which we have supported for 8 years and will support for years to come. Product support is usually a reflection of user support. Any titles that are supported by a lot of users ended up being supported by us, and vice versa. So ultimately, how long we will support Hords of Nords will depend on how many users play and support the game. We're working hard on the game and have confidence that it'll be a great game.

zOMG summons are not likely to be available in Towns, sorry.

We'll consider it, no plans so far though.

why did u take out the setting to add my cell #, and Link my gaia to my cell for Security or alerts.

The SMS alerts feature became too expensive. We are still searching for a company to supply us with an SMS for a reasonable amount of money.

You can secure your account with an IP verification (email-based) and I believe we have a setting to tie your account to "Secondary Authentication"

think it would be really nice if it was easier to get to housing neighborhoods quicker. Right now you have to walk quite a bit or go to hollywood then gambino. It's a bit annoying.

for PMs, can we ever get a friends only system where we can whitelist only certain friends to PM us? i hate PMs from most people, but a few friends i do enjoy PMing. would be nice to give people permission to PM me and block the rest without having to defriend them cause i have them on the list for other reasons.

That's a good idea, or maybe something to filter out anything not from your friends. We'll look into it.

I have a little question regarding my house in Towns 2. There is a glitch that does not allow me to change the style of my wall tile. When designing your house, you can actually pick six styles for the wall you use, and I have a problem with that. The wall tile I'm using is the "Checkboard Wall Tile". I saved both the left and the right wall correctly and made them be completely white while designing my house. Yet, only one wall is completely white, as I saved it, while the other one has the original chess pattern. This glitch does not occur when I'm visiting my house in Towns 1 though.
That glitch has been bothering me for quite a while now, and I already made a thread in the "Bug Report & Technical Support" forum, but no one was able to help me.
I just wanted to ask whether you are aware of this glitch, because it is bothering me a lot.
