Actually, that's happened a couple of times. I've done guest speaking things in other people's classes over the years to talk about careers, and there are always a couple of students who know Gaia. Two of them actually came out to our Member Appreciation Day a couple years ago, which was awesome.

Hey Lanky, something occured to me not too long ago... your job was prioritizing what each department worked on, right?
I was just curious on if regular EI's (non-rapid) happen more frequently once you're gone? Any idea?

Totally honestly, I don't know. We didn't make a conscious decision to de-emphasize them or anything. EI's take a ton of work (and we all know that our track record with some of them wasn't super-stellar). So if there are fewer, it wasn't really due to anything other than that we had a bunch of other stuff to do. But we haven't forgotten them at all, and without promising, hopefully you'll be happy in the near future.

Just because an EI isn't well receieved a few times doesn't mean it'll always be the case. I think after the Pietro, I've seen alot of users have been wanting another slow slow EI. And, with enough other frequent updates, why shouldn't there be something like it?
At first, I noticed the the reason the Pietro wasn't well received was because none of the devs gave us a heads up how slow it was going to evolve. But During the last 6 or so evos, users were much more in the groove of how the item was taking it's toll, and I suspect there were alot less death threats. sweatdrop

Ha - yeah, we definitely are determined not to let another Pietro happen. But like I said, I don't think you've seen the end of EIs. And keep asking about them around the site too to keep on us.

1. As of the begining of this month, if you were a regular purchaser of GC throught your home phone or dsl, and your provider is AT&T? They no longer allow those purchases.

Found that out the hard way. -_-

2. Did you know, if you are logged into Gaia on a Kindle, you can't tip posts?

Lei_Trigar here with my 3rd(ish) AtA post with some more questions for you guys! ninja

1st Topic: Achievements: Firstly the little Title system you guys have implemented a while back with the Achievements was pretty cool. Gave us Gaians a nice way to come up with some funny and unique Titles and a reason to collect them all. xp So I'd like to thank whoever added that. smile
When you guys first released it I was really hoping for a 'Alchemist' Title.. I was Level 9 at the time so I thought maybe once I'd hit Level 10 I might get it.. Well when I hit Level 10 and I didn't.. So my question regarding that is; Why is there no 'Alchemist' Title? gonk

Another suggestion for the Achievements that I personally believe will help boost gameplay in zOMG! a lot and many players young and old would like to see as well. Its about the Kill Badges you collect in the game, There was always talk about integrating zOMG! with the Main Site and this would be very good way to do so. And here's a rundown on how the Points could work;
50 Kill Badge: 50 Points.
500 Kill Badge: 100 Points.
5000 Kill Badge: 200 Points.
And if you wanted to add something like Killing EB (End Boss) you can add one like this;
Beat EB first time: 300 Points.
Now, they don't have to have titles in them, unless you want to give them that unique name of the badge itself. Examples; Barnacle Fluff Leech you get the title Leech. For Ghost Lantern Shadow you would get Shadow as a title. Garlic Reaper could grant you the Reaper title!
I mean, we all know the game isn't going to be getting any major updates in a long time (if ever), so I'm sure you guys can still add little things like this at least. smile
Would it be difficult to implement something like this? mrgreen

Also, the same could also be done with Fishing and maybe some of the other little games Gaia has. smile

As part of our examination and potential planning process for revisiting/updating our existing games, we are looking at the possibility of tying achievements to the various Games that are offered. We aren't anywhere near finalized in our plans but this is definitely something we want to do and is high on our list of to-dos when it comes to the games. Stay tuned for more.

I like the changes that were made to an item's Marketplace listing page recently (listing the store price, the sellback price and the shop it can be found in on separate lines.) I've noticed a problem with the new setup, though...if an item has a store price, the Marketplace lists its Sellback price regardless of whether or not you can actually sell the item back from inventory. If you can't sell something from inventory the Marketplace shouldn't list it as having a Store Sellback Value. (example of an item this happens with.)

Speaking of the Marketplace and Aquarium items...since we've got Daily Chance and Dumpster Dive burying us in Aquarium items, can something please be done about the fact that, when choosing an item to sell on the Marketplace, Aquarium items only show up in the All tab?

For the last two weeks we've been experimenting with an 11am cycle on Tuesdays and Fridays, and for the most part it seems to have gone well. I suspect that's the cycle that we'll settle on at this point.

Second, I would love to ask how everyone's weekend was? I just had an incredible time at Dragon*CON where, dressed as Magenta, I met Richard Horvitz (voice of Zim in Invader Zim), Rikki Simons (voice of GIR in the same show), and of course the lovely Patricia Quinn (the one and only Magenta from Rocky Horror). Richard had me do the Time Warp five times and I was able to speak with and hang out with all of them.

Third, I would love to ask about if anything new is in the works to continually improve Alchemy and if any new formulas that do not take any cash item or limited special grant item whatsoever will be released in the near future to make it less painful to level up?

Fourth, Rocky Horror Picture Show items please. emotion_kirakira After this past weekend, being able to have them to use would be even more marvelous.

If you're just linking to an online store like Etsy, Amazon, etc you should be fine. We really try to reserve any action for off-site advertising for people trying to get "referrals." That isn't to say that if we think you're sole purpose is just to advertise stuff that we won't do anything, but odds are if you have a thread such as, "I really love this new winter style that Target put out, the colors look incredibly vibrant and would go well with most people. You can find more information on it [here]. I think it looks lovely." Then you would be fine.

We're not getting rid of zOMG - we want to keep it around as long as possible for people to enjoy. We're just not going to be doing any major development on it any longer. We'll still do some bug fixing and add small things when we can, though.

So I'm going to ask about the server-enforced marketplace avatar not being accessible elsewhere on the site, again. I know it was listed as low priority last time I asked. But it just seems to be causing more problems lately.

The adding friends feature was being abused. In the new towns, you get a link to your friend requests and a notification of that request. We will probably re-enable it for towns 2.

Oh, speaking of Towns 2. Are you aware that the path finding option can allow you to walk in non-designated areas, such as on the Gambino mansion?

I'm aware, but not sure of every method of how to do it. Can you walk me through it? (no pun intended)

I have two questions to ask today; one a little more “sensitive” than the other.

First off, is there any way that the Capcha for Fishing (and any other activity that utilizes the same Capcha) could be modified/improved so as not to offer entirely illegible options so often?
Sometimes figuring out what the Capcha says is harder than the game that requires it, but in the case of the example I provided, it’s simply impossible, and while I realise that you can refresh the Capcha screen, it’s not at all uncommon for one like the picture to show up two, three or even four times in a row.
I’ve lost a couple of Fishing games because of this I believe, and when you’re as bad at Fishing as I am, every Fish counts. wink



Secondly, what recourse does a User have when they have a difference of opinion with a Moderator over what constitutes appropriate content for a Topic?
I always try to make my Topics relevant to the Forum in which I post, but have on a few occasions found myself running afoul of a Mod who has decided that the Topic should be elsewhere such as the SF or (shudder) CB.
To be honest, because I try to be relevant and thoughtful in most of my Topics (and because they’re always so long, it takes forever to type them out wink ) I always find it to be rather irksome to get that Private Message telling me that my opus has been unceremoniously shunted to a Forum where it’s intended audience will never likely see it.
That being said, I try to avoid conflict in general, but I acidulously avoid it in situations where I feel myself to be conflicting with someone who’s in a position of greater authority than mine. Someone who could conceivably have me either Warned, or Banned if I pushed them sufficiently hard.

We're working on migrating the captchas to the new solvemedia captcha for reports, Aquarium comments, and Booty Grab. Changing them for Fishing will require changes to the game itself though so that won't be happening as soon as the others. We'd like to fix up the captcha in there but probably won't focus on that until we get around to looking at shining up Fishing again.

This actually isn't in our control. The folks who own the licenses to those properties are very strict about who the items could be sold to. We of course would rather sell to everyone, but this was the only way we could make it work. We figured it was better to at least have these items available on the marketplace than not at all.

Actually, we were dealing with the companies directly. Their US office was cool with it, but their Japan office balked. Trust me, we weren't thrilled with that either.

Of course, I'm fine with it either way 'cause what I really pay attention to is the storyline and the quality of the art, but I was wondering if there was a reason you guys switched. Just curious.

Question/suggestion.

Would it be possible to put a sellback button on items that have a sellback in the Inventory Arranger, but not in the main Inventory? For example, the Aquarium Arrow Fish, Aquarium Jellyfish, Aquarium Pink Cute Star Sticker, and Aquarium Holiday Lights?

This is actually a problem with the Inventory Arranger being outdated and not using the same checks as the main inventory. There are some items which have a sellback value assigned by accident but that we don't want to be sold back to the store. These items aren't able to be sold through the main inventory, but the arranger is allowing it through the outdated check. We're actually working on a fix that will prevent this from happening going forward.

2) Ever consider porting some of the flash games to HTML5? It would mean they could be played on Android, and maybe iPhones too. Well, once HTML5 has agreed upon standards, it might be something to consider.

We are keeping an eye on HTML5 as it evolves. It's not quite there yet (performance is questionable in some configurations, sound can be problematic, so on and so forth), but we would like to try it on something as soon as the technology is viable.

This is actually all on Viximo as the problem from that is due to bugs on their end. We are continuing to work with them to get it fixed but there's not much that we're physically able to do to move the process along.

Tipping was designed to be as simple as possible. During the design phase, we shot down proposals to have multiple tipping values.

- Does the current "moving on" status of zOMG mean you're going to open up DMS for everyone? Seeing as how zOMG is moving closer and closer to what most rational people would define as "shelved".

- Is BidBlast being removed from the site? Will something be put in place to replace it since part of the justification for destroying rare and limited items through Alchemy was always "you can get the item some other way" (which really hasn't happened, we need more than four random item auctions at a time to counter the damage done through Alchemy).

- I would love to see another anime mashup RIG some month. Mostly because I'm still dying for a duel disk, and maybe some Tiger and Bunny items to go with the first movie release at the end of the month.

1) We're actively looking at opening up DMS to everyone. We don't really have a timeframe for when that would be done but it is something we're wanting to do.

2) Yes, we're looking at removing BidBlast. I don't know for certain but I believe the current plan is to incorporate them into automatic bids created in the existing Marketplace.

Yeah, I know this is on the list, but it's not high on the list. I have a branch with some fixes in it, but getting to the point of a wholesale replacement of BBcode is probably not in the cards any time soon. If there were very specific bugs that would really help (i.e., getting code tag to work better, or maybe fixing the spurious emoticons) then we can potentially fix those specific ones.

Check in your list of completed offers for the contact information (look for a contact support link) for that company, and ask them about the missing cash. The neighbor glitch is unfortunately out of our hands at this point. The problem lives on Viximo's end of the game and while we're continuing to work with them to try and get it fixed, there's not much more we're able to do at this point except wait and keep prodding them along. As soon as we know anything about a fix, we'll let everyone know.

We are looking hard into a new inventory arranger. Hopefully it wouldn't be too long before we have a new version out.

We've fixed several bugs and we thought we've fixed all the bugs related to the Alastor quest but we might still have some issues. Will look into the bug some more. No plans for the UFO currently.

Alchemy remains to be pretty tough on the higher levels. We have more plans to improve upon it but will need more time to implement as we are working on other features right now.

What is the fate of zOMG! if [ JK ] has been quoted as saying the game is dead and DJ Helsing was quoted at the SacCon as saying "it's time to move on" from the game? Will the game be removed from the site and receive not even the minor updates as promised?

zOMG is an awesome game and we all love playing it.

With that being said we aren’t doing any more major development. We may make small changes when necessary to fix bugs etc.

We are going to keep it on the site.

I wanted to make a pair of Black Edwardian Children's Trousers. In order to do that I would need 55 of each pink, yellow, and green trousers. As well 10 red, and 5 blue trousers, and 33 licorice. So all together you would need 213 items to make one pair of black trousers. Anyways is there a chance that you could make it so we wouldn't need that many items. Maybe in exchange make the price to craft the items higher.

Also I wanted to say that I love the new achievements. I think it's wonderful how everyone is workin' together in the achievements forums to get the new achievements. I don't know if it's possible or not, but why not have some achievements for aquariums.
1. For havin' a full tank of fish.
2. One for after a fish passes on.
3. One for makin' a x amount of gold from booty grab.

You could also have an achievement for spendin' an x amount of gaia cash. Since people can watch videos, and do offers, or buy cash cards. It's somethin' a lot of people could do.

Hello, Admins and Devs!

I have two questions.

1. Days ago, I tried to log onto my Gaia account and it said my password was incorrect. I tried logging in again and I am sure I typed in my password correctly that time, but it still said my password was incorrect. Later on in the day, I tried logging into Gaia again and it logged me in. The part where I typed in my password correctly, but it didn’t log me into Gaia has happened to me before and I had to change my password in order for it to log me in whenever this happened to me. But, when I did change my password, I changed it to the same password I used before and when I used that same password to log into Gaia, Gaia accepted it. I remember changing my password to a different password sometimes as well and it logged me in with that password each time as well. But, days ago, when my password wasn't accepted twice in the same day, but it was accepted later on in the day has not happened to me before though. When I had IP Verification turned, I do not remember if this problem with my password not being accepted happened to me though. Is this a possible glitch that has happened to me and should I be worried about it? D:

This is just a result of the Ignore and Friends systems being basically one in the same when it comes to the code that runs the check for the achievement. When the achievement was added, it wasn't built in to just check for adding friends so it's quite possible to also receive it for ignoring someone instead.

When clicking on the next page when on a forum the next page function is call and when happens and it will get the data for the next page and replace everything in the document with what was received. That is not the problem, the problem is the content it receives from the request is missing <doctype>. &html&, &head&, &body& elements. I tried to replicate this from another XHR script and it didn't get the same results. I am not 100% sure why you get those missing elements but it has to do something with the backend. Thanks for the video but delete it ASAP. It contains your SID / session ID (which needs to be kept secure like a password).

The script that does the "partial page" loading (the specific technique is called "PJAX" wink adds an "X-Header" (an additional HTTP header) on the request. Your browser and/or inspector is likely using the cached version of that request to show you. The PJAX version of the page (with the PJAX HTTP Header) does not come with the HTML header or footer. It's a trimmed down version of the HTML.

If you are working on a browser extension or add-on, I can try to help you directly with your task.

If you mean converting gold into gcash, then no. We intentionally isolate the two currencies to prevent fraud and for game balance.

If you mean converting gcash into gold then you can sort of do that now by buying cash shop items and selling them in Marketplace. It takes a little bit of work to check marketplace prices for various cash shop items to find a good one.

Sorry if I'm asking an old question but did gaia update they're flash player sometime in the past few months? I can't go anywhere on gaia anymore without my computer telling me to upgrade but I can't upgrade because my computer is to old now.

We didn't increase the required version of flash player for our content, but we have third party publishers of flash ads, and it is quite possible they are requiring a newer version.

Gold shop buying

If you go to an item in the gold shop, it opens up the item and all. For the longest time it was glitched where when you clicked buy it just closed the item. However, now you click buy and the store owner asks you to buy some other random item. Like I clicked buy cyan squirt gun and Liam asked me to confirm buying a turban. Can y'all fix that? Also can we just buy the item with gold in the avatar changer instead of having to go to the store?

We'll have to investigate more, if you haven't already please make a thread about this in the Bug Reports and Technical Support forum.

Achievements

The Athlete achievement still shows up on the achievement page like you can still get it when you can't. Can that be fixed? Also the inquisitor achievement grants you it at around 40 votes on a poll. Also will there be more achievements soon and/or a reward for getting so many points? :3 Also, since the new achievements it's been impossible to get older ones without having a buncha friends help because a poor nudist thread is drowned out by all the fire starters and such. Do you think there could be like separate subforums, maybe? Oh and can we maybe get achievements for playing games like fishing and zomg? I know there's alchemy, so why not other games?

Fixed your athlete acheivement. We probably won't make special forums for them, the point for some of those like that was for them to be challenging to do.

Gaia games have become so pointless to play. Getting only 10 or 15 gold every level on word bump seems so pointless. You can get more gold for voting on a Poll or posting. You can even get more from daily chance. I was just wondering if you've ever considered changing games to give out more gold/better prizes. Also are yall going to make more simple/fun games like pinball or is it all about the new big game?

We're already looking into making minor changes to the current games.

I know back like years ago there was the skittles prom and all. I kinda want something like that back. I miss the events that weren't all in forums. I enjoy events more that arent all in forums. I really want some of those back. Like the camp one too. That was fun. It was mostly in forums but you had different stuff to it too. I just think other events were more fun when they aren't all just in a single subforum (like this detention one...).

Games - We're actively looking into revamping the payouts for the older games and bringing them up to par with the rest of the site. We're also looking at small games that we can get out quickly without too much work on our end. More on that later wink

Events - Expanding events beyond the forums is mainly reserved for the larger events (Easter, Summer, Halloween, and Xmas). Smaller, mini-events like Detention are less involved, have shorter production periods, and typically are less complex than the big events so they're more likely to be simple.

Some items, like the Katana, are not sold often and that means there is a low confidence level on what the price actually is. In those cases we don't try and guess what the price is for the warnings. This is different from the Lowest Buy price because it takes into account historical sale values.

The warnings are there to prevent more than just underpricing mistakes. Yes, we could potentially remove some of the warnings, but that might effect others who are used to looking for them. I understand what you're saying about the format of the message. I think we should look for potential improvements with feedback from more people. The messages work as-is and I feel like the change in formatting is getting sort of specific to your experience rather than what's useful to everyone. I'll keep my ears open.

Hey, are you going to fix the free G cash videos that direct you to games? I've tried four of them, but they never give me G cash.

Some of those offers are sort of tricky. Make sure and read what the instructions are saying rather than clicking on links right away. I don't know of any offers that require you to play a game - usually they have a video, quiz, trivia, surveys, etc. If there is a link that takes you to another page, it might just be their entry point to the product they are trying to advertise rather than the offer itself.

It would very helpful to us if you grabbed some screenshots of your flow through the experience and point out places where you expected to get gcash but didn't.

This might be preventing specific items from being sold back that are not correctly configured. The reason I'm asking is because several times I've posted before about something being broken (in this case, the "Next" button on the second page of submitting a vend in the marketplace--the image is broken) but it doesn't get seen or replied to.

I mean I love DMS and I love ZOMG But I feel cheated out of my gold...I worked hard to get all that gold and then to blow it all on some stone that now..won't even work. I mean that is alittle more than ridiculous to me.

There are many issues we struggle with when we evaluate what we can do to improve guilds. It's never only as simple as just disabling a feature temporarily, upgrading the code, then re-enabling the feature.

Now with my rants:

1.) Booty Grab.


There are so many d*mn glitches in this particular area that it's almost laughable, so I want to bring this to attention now; I wish for those to be fixed. It get really annoying trying to Booty Grab and the fish and gold fly off-boundaries. Really annoying.

Most importantly however, is the return of Memphis the Mermaid to the Cash shop. I distinctly remember she was going to be taken out for modifications, but we haven't heard of her for almost a year now. What happened and if they are not planning on bringing her back then please tell us.


2.)zOMG!


Before I say anything, I really lovethe effort that was put into this MMORPG, love to go on and make new friends.

But that doesn't make up for the lack of details this game lacks. For one, the gold output is ridiculous. Items in the MP and Exchange skyrocketed three months after this launched.

No more Gold Potions, please. If you are trying to get Gaian's to pay with real-life cash for items, try that with the MCs and the bundles. Gaia has a userbase of MAINLY 13-to18year olds. They don't have the kind of cash to burn for these items. Focus on better items for RIGs, bundles, and MCs. Gaians love those.


3.) Alchemy


I understand that this was meant as a goldsink. But putting the artists behind Gaia's awesome and gorgeous art was not the way to go.

First of all, if people can craft the RIGs you are currently selling, then you obviously are ripping yourself off!

Sell the formulae after the RIG is taken out of the shop; that way Gaians spend GCash on the RIGs and then spend GCash on the formulae. Win-win scenario! they get the formulae and you get the cash!

Put someone in charge of something so monumentally huge like Alchemy that knows about Gaia! These artists seemed to not have a grasp of economics here of Gaia, nor do they seem to bother to ask! If anything, Gaians should be the ones to steer something like Alchemy in the direction of greatness!


4.)RIGs


I don't know where to even start with this one.

Let's see. First off all, RIG Bundles were guarranteed a victory when they first came out. How come this is no longer the case? I have opened bundles with MY OWN CASH and used the RIGs only to see that my items were worthless and not what I wanted!

RIGS also need to give something of growing value as you pass more 'rounds'; a Round 1 loss and a Round 4 loss are giving out items worth less that 40k in the MP. People are getting discouraged and are not willing to spend GCash anymore if this happens!

For the rare items and the RIG pets, you should sell for a much higher price! Don't have Gaians all discouraged and unwillign to spend GCash of they aren't promised an item! If they want a Succubus Zivva but have to open and buy 60 bundles first, they aren't going to do it! If you offer Succubus Zivva for 1500 GCash ($15 USD), Gaians will spend them! And you get more sales! Another win-win scenario!

And would you please stop releasing them every month? THE MAJORITY OF GAIANS ARE 13-to18 YEAR OLDS! They DON'T have the cash to burn!


5.)BidBlast


Another obvious goldsink, but this one was not as sucessful as Alchemy. They is alot of complaints on this feature and I'm quite surprised that these have been heard (like the ones on Alchemy, RIGs, and the BBCode you guys seem to update really late...)

Buying tickets for those prices are just shooing away Gaians in general. and the time that these end are nowhere near the most active timezones. Most Gaians are from the US, and if this was a more sucessful goldsink the auctions would end at busy timezones in the US to get people to buy more tickets and bid on these items.

Being a dutiful Gaiain, I have reported many threads and posts. However, these were not attended to until almost 2 days a later at best. Either get more mods in the busier forums or just don't even bother having them. By the time the mods take action, these threads and the posts have instigated, hurt, and done damage that was supposed to be prevented when we reported them.


7.)Lack of Communication in General

The fact that many petitions I see in the Petitions forum have many pressing matters and the amount of cookies needed, many have yet to be answered. Why is this?If you don't want to hear our opinions then don't; just make it look like you at least look into the pressing matters that Gaians want looked into. really, why even bother having the Petitions forum when they seem to be ignored?

Remember Gaia is a business; and as every business knows, "The customer knows best". get Gaians more involved, more active, and hear what htey think and take their input into account. It would do Gaia a world of good.

I know this was a lot of things I spoke of , and I have the sneaky suspicion I'll be ignored, but at least I feel like this was brought to the attention of someone and I made a difference.

Why can I not get a text from Gaia to get notifications and things on my phone?

I would like to do such, but every time I try and re-do it.. I never get a text and then I get a PM basically saying that I need to continue signing up.. But I cant.

We're looking into push notifications now. Should have it on the iPhone and then on Android phones later.

Because of federal internet safety regulations we are not able to collect and share personal information such as phone number, address, etc. Even if it were not regulated we would still probably not do that. It's a safety issue if sex offenders, etc are able to locate minors. This is why we can't have nice things.

First, does Gaia (or Gaia Interactive) currently have available positions for interns? (either in the bay area or world wide)

Secondly, I have looked into petitions that have to do with guilds and supporting zOMG.
Are you able to share with me/us what plans have been made to innovate the guilds and clan section?

Lastly, what would you suggest users do to show their support for zOMG? (besides playing lol)
I came across an interesting reason the other day that spoke about the lack of updates and development to zOMG was attributed to the lack of players and community support. Is there any correlation, or have my speculations gotten the best of me.

As always, thank you for your continual hard work on Gaia!

We currently only have one intern position for programming and it's already been filled. Others might open up later on in the year.

Actually player are the best support for any games, including zOMG. We wish we have resources to support all our games, but we could only support a title for so long.

The inquisitor achievement IS retroactive but it does require at least one new person vote in your poll for it to check that specific poll count. If you have a candidate you could vote with a mule to trigger it. Although don't make 100 mules to get the achievement unless you're a wanker!

I feel like you guys either need to stop giving that stuff out so much, or allow it to be sold back to gaia for in the very least, and even an amount I would be satisfied with, 1 gaia gold. So back in May I had asked about the avatar feature from the MP being a violation and DARKNRGY said that it should be enforced on the server side. I want to know if this is still the case that it's not permitted, because from my understanding there's conflicted information going around whether it's permitted or not. It's also stirring up some problems such as this:

That can potentially be a largely used feature for guides, shops, contests and even profiles; being able to link directly to a specific part within a post could be very beneficial. We both know it's feasible, but would that be an idea that's acceptable?

The IP Verification feature, what's the chances of us getting an option to delete authorized IPs? It seems like a security risk to not be able to revoke authorization of an IP address. Such as if a friend's IP is authorized and they know the password but the friendship breaks, you should not have to change the password just to prevent them from accessing it. The purpose of IP verification is to revoke access from unwanted users, not being able to delete an IP address defeats this.

Being able to trade orbs into shadow orbs would be a great feature to make the game easier to level, but since that feature will change the game's leveling curve significantly, I'll definitely need to talk about that more before making any decisions.

Sadly those Chans and Gags have different parameters for how many topics they allow, how long they store those topics, how many replies per topic, etc. I.e. IIRC there is a limit of something like 100 replies per topic. Gaia has some topics with millions of replies. That feature would be difficult to scale without re-writing srs code and migrating srs data.

We have that feature on the ATA topic (we manually have to set it after the ATA is created). I think it would be a big project to make sure it works at the scale we need it to (if we were able to add it automatically to all topics in all forums).

Also big plus for fixing the avatar menus after doing a PJAX request.

Unfortunately the Android app doesn't work on some of the older phones because of a compatibility issue with the software development platform that we're using. We're looking into having a version that can work on all phones.

It's on my list of things to do. Problem is that PJAX is YUI3 (which is only loaded on a very select few pages right now) and YUI2 is available everywhere. I think I will need to have PJAX notify some global object and extensions can subscribe to that global object.

I'll try to get it done in the next 1-2 weeks.

The fact that real life merchandise doesn't sell as much is the other reason why we haven't made as many items in recent years. As weird as it might sound, Gaians prefer virtual items much more than real life items. :O

The alchemy team didn't plan for the system to provide for the top 1% of users. When planning for the backwings, the goal was to have a system that require a lot of work to obtain, not something one can just trade in a lot of gold and finish the next day. Unfortunately the system was more based on using gold to determine the difficulty instead of other factors that involve time. So we're at a point where we still need to make more changes to continue making the feature more accessible.

The problem is, when I got back on a computer not only was the auction still running, but I hadn't won mad On my phone, however, it had said "Auction ended: You won!" and for the top-bidder my username was there. So... why exactly did this happen? D: I would have kept bidding, had I known...

Achievements that use counters are only retroactive if we already collected that counter data. The millionaire looks at your current gold count (it only checks after you log out+in then your gold count changes). We did not collect the data on logging in X number of consecutive days until after the new achievements were released so they are not retroactive.

In short, very few new achievements will ever be retroactive because we need to know to collect and count data ahead of releasing achievements. Instead, we tend to start counting at the same time we release the achievements.

Hello all you admins, mods, and everyone else! I have two weird questions to ask you today!

1. Am I aloud to nerf more then one account in a day in zOMG? I have normal nerf, 50k, but sometimes I cant get online and as you can see, I am questing items, zOMG is my main source of gold income.... My question is: Are we aloud to nerf more then one account in a day on zOMG and then filter it to one account?

2. I went to the marketplace, tried on an astra, and it worked there, I loved how Spectal Possession worked with my Fallen Wish. I naturaly saved up and got the item but it wont show the animation when i equip it! It worked in the Market place dressing room, why doesnt the astra work on my avatar now that I bought it! I am thinking of getting another astra called Snowy Winter, but I want to know it will work before i spend 700k+ On an astra!

Please get back to me when you can! I REALLY need to know about these two things!

It was Astra-9: Spectral Possession that i tried on and bought. It work in the Marketplace Preview, but not when i go to equip it. Yes, i have all my settings to show animation, and i click the pose with the star behind it. The only reason i wanted this astra is because it worked with my Fallen Wish! (I am rather fond of Fallen Wish and i am trying to find items that work with it. I have found several already and this is my first time with an astra) When ever I equip the astra for a human avi or anything, it works, Why would it work on the MP preview for Fallen Wish, but not when i buy it and try to equip it??

I'll look into it and hopefully we can find a solution.

So recently I minimized the meebo bar at the bottom, And it disappeared. I've checked my settings, emptied my cache, restarted my mac, cleared my cookies, and logged out. Now occasionally if I empty cookies, cache and refresh right after one another, I'll get an extremely glitched out meebo bar. It's see-through and none of the buttons work. I've even recieved a few messages during this and clicking upon them did nothing. Help! crying

Meebo is owned by Google. After we put some simple code on our site, we have no control over the Meebo bar.

It's designed to not show if Meebo has not explicitly tested your browser... so if you upgrade your browser it may not show for a few days.

Your only real options are to clear your cache+cookies, then if that doesn't work to try logging into your account with another browser (to find out if your browser is the cause). Don't forget that Gaia Labs and Browser extensions/add-ons can potentially break many features on Gaia (including the Meebo bar).

~ I also have to give some love to those responsible for finally giving us all the Tonfa that had alluded release since 2003! Perhaps we can see more of the unreleased items and such, like the rest of the Elemental Halos that were leaks a few years back?

~ For Titles, is it possible to have every one available in both the left and right menus to choose from? Many titles can be both adjectives and nouns depending on context (e.g. "Phantom": "Tipsy Phantom" and "Phantom Hoarder" ) and it really is disappointing when you want a certain word to be in a certain place, but because of the setup, it is impossible to have it as such.

~ Would it be possible to return the Golden Magical Giftbox formula back into The Bifrost? I saw a post from a tank owner who used all of the Pink Magical Giftboxes he received from both his and his friend's tank, along with any tank he played with Grunny Subs, to craft Golden Magical Giftboxes because there really was no other worth to the Pink Giftboxes otherwise. I know he cannot be the only person who has such a tank and/or who plays those tanks in order to receive something other than gold. If this is the case, then those Giftbox values (which are cheap to begin with) will plummet even further in addition to making the value of the items inside even more worthless. It also does not help when the Neck Scarves called for in one stage of the backwings formulas are several million gold on the MP and are very small in availabilty because they come from the Golden Gifboxes, and if those boxes cannot be created anymore outside of the normal random events and the rare DC pulls, then the Quests will tack on even more expenses and possibly time to complete from this one issue alone.

I regret not spending more time outside, instead we played too much video games. D: I've read a ton of manga so it's not all that bad. smile

My question for the admins is:

Do you plan on putting in a bank at any point? I really think the only thing gaia teaches us is how to play the market. A lot of people don't even get that out of it.

If you put in a few banks, or even just 1 bank, there could be an option of Compound interest or Simple interest. Im sure you know what those are but for anyone else reading this:

Simple interest is like putting 1,000$ in a bank and gaining 2$ each year its in there.

Compound interest is like putting 1,000$ in the bank, getting 2$ one year, then 4$ the next, and 6$ the year after.

Probably not. ^^; Interest makes sense in a world where you have actual loss of money because of needs: food, housing, electricity, and taxes. On Gaia, we don't have those needs, so interest would just be a pure gold generator. (Which is a bad thing.)

Also, interest is a type of "income" where you aren't doing anything to get it. On Gaia, you get gold for what you do, not what you don't. 3nodding

That way if say my account got hacked and I was able to get it back my money could still be in the bank with my password. Will Gaia actually make an animated item that will evolve?
So far they been backgrounds but nothing like arm parts, pieces to the shoulder, something different.

So uhh, a week or so ago, you unsoulbound items you explicitly said were soulbound upon use. It was stated when we bought the item that it would be used only for early entry to DMS, free entry would appear later. Then you like, unsoulbound. I mean, I got on on the basis it would be soulbound, and went out of my way to get a gem too so that would be stuck with me. So uhh, what's with that guys?

And since we can apparently decide the terms items are bought on are void, can we then have halos and whatnot? Cause, really. sad

I have seen some of your posts in the zOMG! thread about this issue, and I have to admit, I am not sure what the specific source of your frustration is over this choice to temporarily unsoulbind this item. I assume you chose to keep yours soulbound, so you still have a soulbound item that gave you early access to the DMS area - which is exactly the item you bought, correct? At any rate, regarding the decision to unsoulbind it for people that wanted it unsoulbound, this was based on a large community request to do so. Although the item was originally sold as soulbound, we decided (after getting numerous requests from community members to unsoulbind it) to offer this as an option. We're sorry if our trying to accommodate a large portion of our users is frustrating for you, but this is why we took this path.

As for your argument about getting "halos and whatnot" - I'm confused. How would giving out halos, which were never soulbound, be the same as temporarily unsoulbinding an item? If you care to elaborate, I'd love to hear why you say this. I'm honestly trying to understand your perspective, so any feedback would be great.

It's mostly the going against what's said when buying an item. We were told one thing happens, and then it was reversed. In my case, getting a gem for no real reason. :/ I mean, it's a good thing it was opened, I'm pretty sure we were all told that, but it's kinda irritating to have one thing said when you buy, and later it ends up not true. Thanks for clarifying - that makes more sense! Normally, we don't change an item's status after it is released, but if the community really wants a change, and it is a change that won't hurt the item, then we'll consider it. If it is a reasonable request such as this one, then we might make changes to make the most people happy. In this case, we tried really hard to find a nice balance between the people that wanted it unsoulbound and those of you who wanted it to remain soulbound hence the temporary time to choose. After two weeks, it will no longer be an option, and the item will return to being permanently soulbound.

Anyway, sorry you were upset by this - it certainly was not our intent to mislead anyone when they bought the item, or to cause frustration to them later on.

In the ATA back on May 21 you said the trees and bushes might be ready by the time Towns 2.0 opens (if you planted them back then). Are they growing enough that they'll be ready by the time that 2.0 is released? Or will I be without trees to kick and bushes to shake when it's released?

I was hoping that they might be, but once we decided to combine the Rejected Olympics and Towns 2.0, that ate up all the time we had.

We will be putting them in,and bugs, flowers and trash as well, as we open up new areas of towns. Every feature that we will be bringing in from towns 1.0 (and as far as I know we are not leaving any out) will be put into Towns 2.0, before closing Towns 1.

There are a lot of new features that will be added to Towns 2 as well.

You need to be 18 because you need to be able to legally sign a contract. I suppose you could be 17 and emancipated.... but that's really rare.

Gaia Cash is non-transferable. It's designed that way so that Gaia can comply with the laws of othe United States of America.

We have fixed a lot of items with green goo and yes unfortunately there is a ton more!

Luckily a few months back some changes were done to the back end that let us spot green goo more easily. There used to be a time when we couldn't even see it! Crazy! This should hopefully cut down on the amount of goo going forward.

Question #1 The new achievements, specifically the Millionaire and Guildmember ones, what do we do if we already have 1 million gaia gold and are members of a guild or several guilds?

Those achievements should grant retroactively so you shouldn't need to do anything out of the ordinary. I was able to get both of them simply by logging out and back in. After a couple times of that I received both.

Is the Alchemy formula for the Golden Magical Giftbox going to remain unavailable outside the Marketplace? I understand why the formulas for the lesser Giftboxes and Trunks went away, but crafting Golden Giftboxes is actually useful for Alchemy.

For one thing, Booty Grab is still pumping out Pink Giftboxes like there's no tomorrow, and some people (mostly high-class tank owners, I think) were actually finding it convenient to craft Golden Giftboxes with the 50-Pink-Giftbox option, and then use those Golden Giftboxes to craft Caches and Cases. With the Golden Giftbox formula removed from circulation, Pink Giftboxes are losing value.

Second, crafting medium or large Backwings requires the Angelic or Demonic Neck Scarf, and those are only found in the Golden Giftbox. Taking the Golden Giftbox formula out of circulation makes these already-highly-rare items even rarer. This is the sort of thing that makes Gaia's users think you and we have very different ideas of what it means when you say you want everyone to have a fair chance at crafting the Backwings.

The Golden Giftbox, from what I know, was only supposed to be from random events, and some of the recent alchemy changes removed the need for the golden giftbox formula and the formula was removed for balancing the difficulty. We'll look at the drop rate of the Golden giftbox and make changes accordingly, though I don't think I can help with the value of the Pink giftbox for now.

Will there be such thing as a legit lending an item (w/ duration?) so we can lend items without getting scammed?

You are free to lend items to your friends for as long as you would like, we don't recommend it because of the scamming potential. However, if you do decide to lend an item to a friend, make sure you make the deal over Gaia (doing it through PMs is the best so there is a record you can access), make it clear that the item is being lent out and is to be returned in a certain time, and make sure to keep any and all evidence. That way, in case anything does happen, we have evidence to work with.

I have the Free Gaia Cash tree activated, and When I click it, It takes to the offers page. That works just fine. But when, I try to watch any of the videos, a Window pops up and Displays thise message:
"Sorry, we are all out of videos today. Check back tomorrow!"
I remember last year I was able to play this videos and get GCash with no problem, but now the videos are not working anymore. . .
Is it because of my Region, or because they are really out of videos? sweatdrop

I live way out in the middle of no where (seriously, I nearly hit a bear with my car a few months ago) so we have tons of little bunnies out here. I love watching them. So does my dog. <.< For different reasons than me, I suspect. LoL.

We also have loads of elk and coyotes and chipmunks. A few months ago, though, my husband saw a tiny bunny in the garden and wanted to catch it and make it a pet. Silly man. (The rabbit obviously easily escaped.) xD

OMG, I could never live there if there are elk. When I was a child, I was attacked by a large Elk! It started to snort then charge me. My dad, who had no weapon, did the only thing he could and ran up and thwapped it on the nose with a Nikon camera until it fled!

Has it ever occurred to the staff & the devs that, for the few avoidant, xenophobic, and/or misanthropic players of zOMG -- which certain elitists & other such similarly-ignorant people deliberately mis-label as "anti-social" -- you just might be putting a little too much emphasis upon "group interaction"?

Some people play this game merely to have fun (and seeing as how this was always designed as a "casual MMO", it's quite disappointing that this game has seemingly strayed away from those words in the past year or so). The definition of "fun" doesn't necessarily (or automatically, for that matter) mean "doing something with others", especially if said "others" are people that certain users would simply rather not be around at any given time (case in point: everyone hanging around in Bill's Ranch for DMS). Unfortunately, those users who choose to play alone are frequently ostracized, harassed, and otherwise bullied into either not wanting to play at all, or avoiding certain areas of the game entirely, due to others insistently imposing their "anti-solo" views upon them.

My question is this...who, exactly, is harmed by altering the game so that it becomes possible for certain parts (i.e., instances/the Hive/DMS) of this game to be completed by smaller groups and/or individuals? Is there some sort of "negative outcome" that would arise from this, one that we don't yet know about (especially in the case of DMS -- where, as I remember it, quite a few people have questioned why it just had to be designed specifically so people would HAVE to enter it in groups)? cat_stressed

2. Why, with all of the zOMG power-ups we already have available, is there not one to instantly refill the G'hi meter & then temporarily keep it at 100% for a specific amount of time? cat_burning_eyes

1. I'm sorry to hear you guys are being bullied. The bigger issue is making any such changes would require development resources we don't have. Most of the people who made those kinds of calls about how the game would function have long since moved on from Gaia Online. So that's not really something I can address.

Hello folks. Very thankful that you've tipped your hat to those of us running Android by providing us a version of the Gaia on the Go app. I have some concerns though. Having used both the iOS and Android versions of this app...is there anyway we can get something that follows the Android Design Guidelines a bit more rather than a direct and identical clone to the iOS version? I don't mean to sound ungrateful, and I understand that it's still kind of in a beta phase (correct me if I'm wrong...) but I feel as if we got a sloppy port rather than a true app of our own.

hello admin peeps. when exactly are you gonna put a patch on towns? i try and use the arrows to go to a deferent section of the town and it brings me back to the section i was just in. please make a patch for it, and when will we see new items for rally and the games?

We are busy making Towns 2, and will eventually shut down towns 1.

There are no plans for Rally right now. I'd like to fix it up, VH as well, but we are so busy with a lot of other projects.

You houses will be safe. You just pick a place in the new towns and our tornadoes will pick up your house and safely put it in your new neighborhood. You'll be able to pick a town, and then pick a neighborhood ,for example Gambino Heights, and then have your own community of friends.

We don't plan to create another MMO style game on Gaia. Long term we do want Towns 2 to be an integrated site experience but not quite like an MMO.

New development on zOMG! is halted and has been for a bit. We do hope to continue bug fixes when we can, and also release things that were already made.

Question #2: What is Towns 2? Why was it made?

Towns 2 is the replacement for Towns. We made it because the old code for Towns was not maintainable and by making a new towns we are able to create more elaborate events. We held the Rejected Olympics in Towns 2. We are adding all the towns, though currently we only have part of Gambino. We plan to add a lot of new features, and bring (almost) all the old features from Towns.

What's the exact reason why there isn't going to be any trick or treating or carolling in Towns this year and why is there not going to be a Halloween event in zOMG! either?

@Towns ToTing - The short and simple answer is we're just too busy with work on Towns 2.0. We're hoping to have it in good enough shape to be able to put it out and take Towns 1.0 down by the end of the year so we're going full throttle with it and just don't have the time to go back and make any changes to Towns 1.0.

@zOMG - The chances aren't high simply because no one on the Gaia team actually knows how to do it. The time we get for zOMG devs to work on the game is being filled with bug fixes so there's not a lot of time for much else. It's not 100% ruled out yet, but it's not likely right now.

Taking down towns 1.0....!? Blasphemy! What's gonna happen to bug collecting and flowers (which by the way that exchange is long overdue for an update)?

Those features of Towns 1.0 will be added to Towns 2.0 before Towns 1.0 is taken down.

Got a few things I'd like to ask about.

1) Featured Avatar Blog: Currently we don't get any notification about it other than checking the homepage, also is blog format the best way as up/down voting seems pointless on a featured blog.

Also they way its done alot of players like Featured avi's to see what other player are coming up with however it seems nay of the picks are well not up to scratch to what we would expect for featured avatars. How do you guys pick the avi's? have you ever thought about featuring an avi each week from different respective boards or even having a featured player each month?

2) CB/GD cleanup these boards seem very out of control at time, is there are reason they are separate it would make more sense to have them as a single board?

3) When will we see more in Towns 2? looking forward to have a fully interactive map.

4) Map events (Hobbit day) will we see more of these?

1. Yeah, the up/down'ing is strange to me, I mean, we could technically make all blog entries stickies and not have to worry about them, but I don't think there's a real need to.

Featured avatars picking is pretty much just random, we pick a page number within the past week, two weeks, and then a post number. We try to make the female/male avatars displayed about even, but there's no real science behind choosing the avatar. We do this so that it's fair to all users. Avatar style is very subjective, I've seen some people say, "Oh my god, this avatar is horrible" and other people go, "Best avatar ever!"

Additionally, because it's random, we don't really choose users based on which forum they came from.

Just a suggestion (take at your own will!): If someone has been making abusive or negative comments about you, or something you find important and valuable, you should let the person know what he/she said was hurtful and ask him/her to stop. It is possible they didn't realize the impact of his/her words, and you should express to him/her why it is hurtful. If they continue to belittle you with taunts and rude comments, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your friendship. Real friends don't shower you with hurtful or hateful comments biggrin

For me, my lab celebrates Pi day and National Mole day and we pretty much use every excuse we can get to host potlucks. This one old field technician in the lab just makes the best brisket ever. heart

Yes, this is my desk, and we can bring pets! We haven't had a duck though, but that would be cool! Celebrations around here are fairly standard, but we do celebrate on site... you know, things like Halfling Day, Halloween, etc. We also like our weekly chalkboard drawings!

As for odd team building exercises, my team likes to go shoot each other at paintball. It's a nice stress reliever. We also like to throw pies at Zero, which is also stress reducing and team building! 3nodding

For Sisky and Narumi: Will the bloodstone gems ever be able to become unsoulbound and have a use? I understand the amulet's got unsoulbound but not the gems and I believe we should be able to use them for something or sell them more then 50k. Could you figure something out for us?

You cant rally on your touch screen, and Pms are too slow.... So I was thinking, you can make a FREE gaiaonline app? Which has everything, like meebo, rally, towns, etc. That would be HEAVEN.

Fully finished? I think it will always be a work in progress. We plan to keep adding events and games.

We are hoping to have the houses in by the end of this year, as well as bugs, shaking trees, etc.

Then at the start of next year, we start adding the next town (Barton, Akea, or Durem). We have not decided which one.

maybe you can do a poll somewhere, asking users which town they would like to see next?

It is rather up to the artists. If left up to me I'd put the paintball back, and the winners would be the next town.

I was saw the ATA thing and so i came to just ask, Do we have like a safe thing where we can place our items to keep them safe just in case someone tries to pish me or hack me? if so please let me know, i'd love to keep my items saved somewhere safe everytime i log out from Gaia. whee

You could try keeping them in your storage or on a separate mule account. But just keep in mind, so long as you do not give out your password to anyone or enter it into a fake log in page (make sure any URL where you enter in your Gaia password is www.gaiaonline.com) then odds are pretty high you won't be hacked. Report any phishers you come across.

I like native apps that have plug-ins or bundles that allow you to create custom scripts based on what type of file you are editing. Lastly, I use TextMate (for Mac), emacs (for *NIX) and I avoid writing any code from Windows.

I would have loved to have created computers.

When, exactly, do you plan on MAKING people unequip and/or otherwise remove those "Overseer" skins from their avatars? Contrary to what anyone else says/believes/thinks/etc., they've been exploiting a(n ongoing) glitch for the past three years by simply not changing or refusing to change their avatars. Some people feel that this is unfairly promoting a double standard of sorts; i.e., one that says "it's wrong to exploit these glitches, but going ahead & exploiting this one is perfectly okay".

This is an issue that needs to be addressed posthaste, because quite frankly, there's little to no point in telling everyone else that they're bound to the rules of the site if you willingly let a few dozen/hundred/thousand/etc. people get away with breaking just one. evil talk2hand

We have no plans to make them do so. While they are taking advantage of an exploit it was also an exploit circumstance created by us. At the time we made that event the leads at the time knew some Gaians would never change their avatars so they could keep the skin. Frankly if your unwilling to change your avatar for the rest of the time your on Gaia to keep a skin, then more power to you. The downside of course is not being able to ever change it.

Thanks for the nice words! I'm still a work in progress, but I never give up! To lose weight, I basically cut calories (and no refined carbs) and worked out a lot. Now I train with my personal trainer 4 times a week, and do 2 hours of cardio on the days I am not training.

What really helped me was having a tangible goal - something to accomplish. I set my goal of climbing Mt. Fuji and last year I made that goal. Staying focused on a life-changing event helped me keep on track. You can do this - never doubt! Feel free to pm me for more details biggrin

2. What’s the deal with the anime player? are you planning to add new anime or remove it?

3. Related to question 2, if you are planning to add new anime to the anime player, could we just get rid of the anime player forum in the AMC and just make a poll or sticky instead about what anime the users want to see added. The forum’s full of spam threads and low content threads.
And if you won’t get rid of the forum, could you make it so they have to add reasons why they want that anime shows in the forum instead of just saying “ add X show to the anime player"

If it did, this comparison worked you fell into my un-counterbalanced ploy. Big red letters attract attention. Red things in general attract attention. Red black and white are one of the world's most universal colors across cultures. /unrelated

Lately in SF lots of people still seem to be..hm...what's the word....uh...unsatisfied with the MP precautions for helping preventing people from making misprice mistake. A lot of this happens because when people list up prices in the MP, they are simply not paying attention.

What big red letters do is actively draw attention. Even for people who don't normally make misprice mistakes, if the "Buy now price" section were 1) colored red, 2) enlarged (bigger font) it would make it loads easier to locate this section instead of having to hunt for it on the confirm page. This change would benefit a lot of people and not just the people who post misprices. It might be unsightly on the MP page but that's the point, to make it an eyesore so that it draws attention from the inattentive. It might not look like much, but I think it would be a great way to help people with their attention issues when they misprice items.

That is all.
add: I am basing this suggestion on a little cognitive psychology about the color red and the factor of contrasts, but IMO this misprice issue is mostly an issue of attention. You can't get people to pay attention when they don't want to, but you can make it easier for people to pay attention to certain things on your web pages. Making the 'buy now price' red and in bigger font will help direct people's eyes to that area.

We definitely want to put more measures to prevent mispricing and most ideas are actually more sophisticated, but I definitely agree that making units more visible do help. We'll put that on the list of improvements to be done ASAP. Thank you!

Good evening Gaia Staff! Congrats on making headway and opening up the beginnings of the Halloween event. A lot of excitement and speculation going on, can't wait to see how it all unfolds!

Here's some of my planned questions for tonight:

1) On behalf of the "Countess Ambrosia Fanthread" I'd like to ask if you could give us any more information or clues towards Countess Ambrosia. I'd like to expand a little and spark some discussion in the fanthread. Any new information you can give us on [NPC] Countess Ambrosia?

2) In Towns 2 we see an expansion on the Isle de Gambino location. In said expansion, we see the location of a building called "Screaming Daggers" with clear pirate themed imagery. For many years, users have theorized that this location on the map was going to be where the upcoming Weapons Shop would open. My second question concerns this. Are there still plans to open a Weapons Shop, and if so will Screaming Daggers be the location for said Weapons Shop?

3) Many users are concerned that with the rapid pace at which our fictional world is growing, that the attention given to expanding on our World Map is suffering horribly. Interesting and exciting new areas are being opened in many forms of media, from manga to R.I.G.s to mini-comics and etc. and users are patiently waiting for many of these amazing places to become part of our world map. My third question is, when will we see an expansion with new additions of map tiles to the World Map? Are there any specific locations planned on being added at this time?

Why are the avatars chosen for the Avatars of the week chosen the way they are? There are much better avatars out there, not saying mine because mine is really cluttered, but do you have to nominate yourself to get chosen?

Featured avatars picking is pretty much just random, we pick a page number within the past week, two weeks, and then a post number. We try to make the female/male avatars displayed about even, but there's no real science behind choosing the avatar. We do this so that it's fair to all users. Avatar style is very subjective, I've seen some people say, "Oh my god, this avatar is horrible" and other people go, "Best avatar ever!"

It is October already and I cannot believe it! Anyone have any plans for Halloween yet? I know I plan on going around as Magenta and possibly helping a friend of mine with their home-made mad-scientist laboratory in their garage. emotion_dowant If the world finds itself in the past or future in a split moment, I may or may not be responsible...

2. There was an issue with the lack of a "Sell" button in the Inventory on several Aquarium fish and decorations that appeared to have been fixed a couple of weeks ago. However, this issue still persists with items for the avatar. I know the Tone Limbs Gloves do not have the button as an option at all (I received one in Dumpster Dive, so this is how I know those items do not have that button). I know I have a few other gold shoppe items on a couple of my mules that I either received in Dumpster Dive or from the Overseer, but I cannot remember them off the top of my head. If this is the case, I am sure there are even more items that I am not aware of that this continues to occur with. I am not sure about some of the Housing items that were experiencing this as well, such as the Holiday Trees, so I cannot make comment on those for either side.

3. Any specifics that can be leaked about any upcoming Alchemy updates?

Regarding the Tone Limbs Gloves items, they should be able to have the sell back button, but we can look into it and see why that's not working for you.

Sorry, no hints for Alchemy yet.

With the Aquarium items I mentioned, it was a huge complaint with multiple other users not having that button available, forcing them to either sell the item in the Inventory Arranger or on the MP instead of from right in their Inventories. That was fixed, somehow, a couple of weeks ago as I said, but it seems the issue of the button not being there for some gold shoppe items still persists.

This is a result of the Inventory Arranger being outdated. The checks for sellback that the inventory has weren't all in the arranger so some items were allowed to be sold back through there that shouldn't have been. That's the bug we fixed. That said, there are some items now which should have a sellback option which don't. For those, I've been compiling them in a couple of the threads in Bug Reports. If you know of specific items that should probably have a sellback but don't, feel free to compile a list of them and send them my way. I can forward those over to the artists so they can look over those.

Hello admins, artists, developers, etc, just a few questions here.

1. Will you guys ever re-release the Angelic Halo?

2. Is there a set date for when the next batch of moderator applications will be reviewed? I ask because if the required 6+ month waiting period does come by, I wonder if I should just put in another application? Or will the acceptance/rejection letter come before then? I know it takes a while for them to be handled so I just want to be sure on what to do if the time comes.

3. Will there be any changes to bid blast? Majority of the time when the bid enters it's final countdown, users will just spam the bid button and make the auction last much much longer. Also I think the actual end time should be a fair time for all time zones, usually when I'll end up heading to bed, I'll wake up to check the bid progress and it will have ended already, while I'm asleep, across the world people have the upper hand with being wide awake in the mornings.

4. Who decided on the colored names? Orange, limegreen, pink, brown. You know, for the Gaia staff.

Originally Admins were orange, site mods were purple, global mods were teal, and omni mods were dark green. As the number of positions grew and the size of the moderating team grew, we expanded the color set. The colors are intended to not only allow people to easily identify a specific type of position so it is easier to contact the correct person to help you with an issue (e.g. you need an Admin, look for an orange name!) but act as a safety measure as well - only real staff have certain color names. Anyone claiming to be Gaia staff without one of the set colors is probably trying to scam you or phish your password!

Hi Gaia Staff I was a little curious on something and it may just be a dumb question but one I'm curious about. The event when you choose what fraction your on, the item you were granted once choosing a side is now soulbound. I figure that's a safety measure for when the event starts so there's no confusion, my question is, well will the item be unsoulound after the event? I dont care either way I like the fraction I chose I'm just curious.

One more thing, is their a possibility of more Gaia Cash cards expanding to other stores anytime soon? JW on that also so no big deal if not.

I don't come up with the Halloween story, I just code it. If you want a specific theme for an event, your best bet is to pay off the writers who come up with the stories.

Yes, holiday events and sponsorship events are time sensitive, so they always take priority. Towns 2 is taking a lot of resources as well. Some other things are secret.

There are a lot of things that need an upgrade, and Towns is where we decided to start.

Currently we don't have any other mini-events planned for this month as we're all focused on getting Halloween finished up and ready for launch. However, we will do mini-events whenever we're able to and have a decent idea of one to do.

1) Yep, Heralds of Chaos is coming very soon. Aside from that, we're looking at more smaller games and some overhauls for existing Games.
2) Yep, we think it will be pretty awesome. ToTing will not be in Towns this year due to resource limitations. It will still be available in the Shops though.

The best thing is being a part of a good team, that tries to put together fun stuff for a large audience. There are just some days that are just so exciting, you sorta regret going home.

The worst part, is that it ties me to one place. I've always been a bit of a wanderer, and it is sometimes strange to be in one place for years at a time. Still, if I didn't, I couldn't be a part of the team.

1. When will Resort World be fixed?? We can't make our Gaia Gold off of it,because everytime you try it freezes and you have to refresh.

1) Any issues in Resort World are up to Viximo to fix as we only host the game, we don't support it.
3) Sentinel's Gift and Potatoverseer both have sellback values so you can sell them back to the store for gold. We will not be unbinding the items though.

I'm only working on Towns, so I can only answer for number 3.

While I'm not sure about those particular flowers, there has been some talk about getting some new artwork. I can't promise as it is not up to me, but we are discussing it.

Sorry the problem isn't so much the placement of he button but the fact that the frame was forced to be wider than the page size, which causes a number of problems outside of the fact that the edit button is not visible. Fixing it will take some time.

For the time being, please re-size your images so that they don't over-stretch the screen. Try shrinking your images down to 700 pixels wide for now. Thanks.

Some of the zOMG! community are concerned about what is going to happen to our favorite MMO.

Many of us are devoted and play it daily and are worried that it will soon fall apart. We would like to help out in taking it out of maintenance mode. We were wondering if you could help us out with a few details so we can help out. First we were wondering what the estimated cost would be of hiring 2-4 Devs, of finishing Buccaneer Boardwalk, and of starting and completing two expansions. We are looking into doing a fundraiser to get all if not most the money for this to happen.

If you can’t help us could please point us in the direction of someone who can help us iron out these details. We of course do not want to donate this kind of money without a contract that states that will be used exclusively for zOMG! We would also like to have an account that we could put these donations into, and if there could be a way for us to setup donation rewards. Many in our group that have been talking about this would like to donate these rewards as a little “thank you”.

Please get back to us as soon as you can about the validity of this idea and with a contact if possible.

You can guesstimate the costs based on CA salaries but I can't divulge company financials.

It's not enough to pay for development but also you would need to have a sustainable income to pay someone to keep it maintained.

We've broken all ties with the store as they basically took all of our inventory, kept it, and just stopped paying us. The store itself is not accessible from our site anymore and any links should no longer lead anywhere but pages that are down. So long story short, we're not in the business of RL merch anymore. The artists do have a RedBubble account that they're selling a few items through though.

The question I'm here to ask is about the Sponsored Offers. In the Surveys, I always end up getting a "Sorry, you're not allowed to participate in our Survey... And so on. It happens in every Survey. Can anybody help me out here? I have always had a big problem with this, and wanted to ask in the Sponsored Offers Forum, but I don't get any positive feedback.

Unfortunately some surveys are made for specific users, for example, some surveys might be only meant for female instead of male. There should be plenty of others that work for you though. Good luck!

First time I went scuba diving off the coast of, I think it was Panama City, I could be wrong, we ended up swimming with a small cluster of nurse sharks.

They were surprisingly (alarmingly for me) friendly and affectionate. Too affectionate for me, in my case.

4. If you're planning on "recycling events" for zOMG during this year's Halloween, could you possibly perhaps recycle the 2009 event, instead of the one from 2010? I remember [ JK ] being a little more than disappointed in the reaction from the "community" when the zOMG devs fixed that little glitch with the event boss in Otami Ruins, and I personally feel that users shouldn't get the chance to go through that particular event a second time. cat_evil

Currently, the chances of a zOMG event, rehash or otherwise is on the lower side. If we do manage it, it would likely be the easiest event we could do. I've never dealt with the code though so I don't know what will be easiest so I can't say which it would theoretically be.

- Face/Body Mods: When making these kinds of items, can you remind the artist to keep all 6 of the human base skin tones in mind? It’s not cool when I see a face/body mod that I like, try it on, then discover that it looks like crap against my avatar’s dark skin.

Example: The face mod from the daughter of snows rei. It looks horrible on darker skinned avis.


- The Manga: If dark elves are sensitive to sunlight, why was Cordell able to participate in the Rejected Olympics?

- The Vampire/Dark Elves Skin: Could you make it so that these skins didn’t make avatars look anorexic? Also, can you release the vampire skin in more tones? Not all vampires are white.

The two skins will remain soulbound. We did put a sellback value on each of them so you can get some gold if you do not want them in your inventory.

New PMs will not be sent out. However, when the event starts, if you are not already on a team, you will be able to select your team and receive the team item at that point.

Sometimes we know months ahead what theme will be made for a certain month. Work begins on a new CI a few days after the last CI comes out.

We have put a lot of serious discussion into the amount of resources we can apply to zOMG for the rest of the year, and the amount of bug fixes and potential additions are minimal, and I really don't want to accept any donations on that front unless we have finished and released features. I appreciate the though but I think it wouldn't be fair otherwise.

I did an update the houses about a year ago. It was the first thing I did at Gaia. The houses will be moved to Towns2. They should run much smoother once that happens.

I have a Towns 2 question. (amazing, I know. right?)
I've noticed that when you arrange to meet someone in Towns 2, you don't necessarily end up on the same layer as the person you are meeting, just like in zOMG. Is it always going to be like that? It was nice in the original Towns how areas were like actual places. You were either there or not there, not there, but caught in an alternate reality. ^^

We have it like that to make sure one space doesn't get too flooded with people, but fear not. We have a GPS device that will allow you to track and find your friends.

We will allow you to bookmark places. I'm guessing geocaches would mean sharing your bookmarks with others, or would it mean giving a set of coordinates?

Simple answer is it's a completely different language and only those who worked on zOMG in the past know how zOMG works. I can easily make forum events like the Talk Like a Pirate event because they're all based on PHP, CSS, and HTML. zOMG is built around variations of Java and Flash and isn't something I know as well. The shorter answer is, it's my job to build events for the site and currently we don't have anyone whose job it is to create events for zOMG.

1) I am a little concerned about the state of Gaia. He said that Zomg, the game you pimped for years and practically forced everyone to spend money on, is no longer being updated. I don't understand why you are putting your focus on single player games rather than the multiplayer games. Gaia is about community. If I wanted to play games by myself, I would pull up Solitaire.

1. The developers that worked on zOMG are not the same that work on our games. Most of those who worked on zOMG! have since moved on from Gaia.

2. Again the zOMG! devs and the devs that work on the site events are not the same and the programming languages used are not the same.

3. It's going towards supporting Gaia Interactive, ...where it always has?

First of all thanks for the latest updates to soul crash the upgrade skills shop is a great use of gold and soul cubes.

1. Talking of which, Soul Crash season 2 ends soon. Any chance of a roughly clearer idea of when soon is.

2. Heralds of Chaos open beta....Sweeeeeet. What is the rate of which your adding users to this beta (loves being amongst the first users to help iron out all newly added games since before "battle system" wink

3. I know we have a few stunning events before we get to the big one-oh on gaia next year, but I also know you guys plan your resources quite far ahead where you can. I love my anniversary sash is there any chance that we can get items again based on the year which we joined for this one? And since its a big date do we have much bigger plans like a full blown event?

The Soul Crash team is working really fast on an update and we should have more details on it pretty soon.

General access should open up soon. We're just fixing the major bugs in the game so that we would not have everyone on Gaia getting stuck on major parts of the game. We're really strict about the beta period, just hoping that the major bugs doesn't take too long to fix!

Next year would be a special year for Gaia for sure. I'd love to have something special. Though it's probably something we plan on after the craziness of Christmas.

I do not usually show up to ATA seeing as how I'm usually extremely busy, but I do have a few questions.

1. The Cash Tree - I can get maybe 1-3 videos to work before nothing else will play. I have emptied my cache several times and still nothing. What's up with that?

2. Why is the Gaia app for android not for everyone? I've waited but it isn't compatible.

They only have a set number of videos to provide for Gaians every day, when it runs out then it won't work. DJ is working to get more for everyone constantly.

Sorry for the incompatibility issue. It was a problem with the software we used to make the app. Trying to find alternatives right now.

Most of the old picture links of what we sent are broken, and I don't think we ever got an update on how the scrapbook was received.

Gaia has hosted panels and activities at every Anime Expo since 2007.

We did host two events this past year at Anime Expo and I'm sorry that you were unable to attend.

We normally do an announcement the Tuesday before the convention with all the event info so be sure to keep your eyes open for next year. We are hoping to attend again in 2013 and we will have more info about 2013 in a few months.

I have a question about Heralds of Chaos, will we ever be able to buy either in a special item or bundle, the costumes of the character types?

The characters are heavily animated so there aren't different costumes, so any items are usually consumables.

Could you try sending some of the items you don't often use to a mule to see if this helps? For some users, this has resolved the issue.

I just want to ask if you'd tell whomever made the demonic date items in the cash shop that I love them but I was it was white and pink instead of black and pink. I think the demonic date bundle should've had a white version made of it.

Just a suggestion though: You may want to reconsider doing the contest over the phone. Because you can't verify that the person is actually making the noise and isn't using a recorded call or hunting call.

You know, normally I am all against plagiarism and copyright infringement. That said, if someone went to the effort to steal an elk bugle of all things, and then called into the contest and pretended to be making that sound, I think that would crack me up so much I'd be laughing so hard.... can you imagine having to warn someone for stealing elk bugle sounds? xd
