Recently, a Chinese MMO decided to freeze all accounts of males who were playing as females, and in order to play as a female, you have to prove that your a female via webcam. Funny thing is, women are still allowed to play as males if they wish.

Now, what if Gaia implemented this, not for just males, but for females as well? Discuss

Personally, the Marine in me loves this idea, but except that, I don't really care since I've always played with a male avi.

Spoons:
Does this violate any laws?
Would you quit Gaia?
How important is it to you to be the opposite sex?
What and utterly stupid idea. I mean honestly, the only reason they would do that is because people were stupid and tricked. The sex of your avatar doesn't really mean much. I choose which ever sex I think looks good wherever I go. If the females are cuter and more fun then I go with them and vice versa. Honestly, it's idiotic.

If Gaia implemented that then yes I would quit. I shouldn't have to prove who I am for a silly website.
That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard and I hope Gaia never implements it. Ever. I'm not playing the opposite sex on this account, my main, but I have a female mule I like to mess around with now and again because some items look better on a female base.

If Gaia did implement this, and it affected my mules I'm not sure what I would do other then being mighty pissed off.

But anyway, couldn't somebody just get their sister or female friend to impersonate them during the webcam session? xP
Sounds like the site just want to see some women.
I mean how other would they "prove" there women on webcam other than to show the goods?

Sounds stupid either way to me.

I would quit.

EDIT:
about the law thing, isnt it a breach of privesy?

I always use a female avi, simply because that's what I like.

but I do think its unfair to limit people's choices on a website.

avatars are all about personal preference and freedom, why let gender affect it?

    Well thats dumb.
I have a few male mules and I enjoy dressing up pixel boys as much as pixel girls.
If Gaia pulled a stunt like that I'd be gone in seconds even though I'm female & so is my main.

    But @ that chinese site,
How exactly could you definitly prove the person on the webcam is the person playing the game?
I would happily help a friend "prove" being female by playing with their webcam to let them keep their account whatever gender they want it to be.

Well I wouldn't quit considering I do have a female avatar and am actually female. I think it would be an absolute violation to privacy to suddenly force your users to 'prove' it by showing what they looked like over webcam.

In any case, some guy could just get his sister to pose in front of the webcam, or a female friend. There's always going to be ways around it, so it's pretty ineffective in my opinion.

I'd just get a male friend of mine to "prove" I was a guy so I could keep my male avatar. xD
But I also wouldn't mind if I had to change my avatar's gender.

So now that Chinese site has pictures of all of their female users? Sounds a bit fishy to me... Sell the pictures to the Chinese government -_-;

That's a stupid idea. I honestly don't see why they'd do that, lots of people do it.

I like the idea but then again it is bad idea. This gives me mixed feelings.
Are you kidding me? I almost always play as a woman, which is what I am, but that's so disgustingly sexist, invasive, and downright injust that I would definitely quit. In fact, I am sure this would, in fact, be enough to ruin Gaia as a business, if not through legal means then everyone up and leaving. Ineffective, but disgusting. Can you PM me with the name of this MMO?

I'd just get my boyfriend to be 'me' though if it came down to it.

Also, any site collecting pictures of its female users in that sort of fashion is just creepy.
What about traps?

It's a dumb idea and would never work outside China.
On Gaia it wouldn't really effect me if they did that, but it'd be pretty stupid if they did. On a few games I play I have female characters, and I'd hate to not be able to play as them simply because I'm male.
I don't see why they have to do that.

In China, I would expect it, but I don't think it would be required on Gaia. I see it as no different than putting a picture of some anime chick in your avatar area on any other forum.

but yeah....the whole picture thing? Yeah, ******** that.
