Craig Sherman is an idiot. I really do not like him being out there representing Gaia in any way.

That said, I'd really rather see the whole conversation around that quote rather than just that little snippit before judging off of it. News articles, which I'm assuming is where you got that from since you didn't cite your source, haven't exactly been proven to be honest and wholesome in their representation of the facts. While it looks like he could be talking about WoW as a whole, there could be something more specific under discussion here.

Lol, atleast WoW is making a PROFIT. Unlike Gaia, according to Fleep.
Some bussenisman Craig is.
D: And gaia probably doesn't even have 1 million active users. 80% of all the accounts are probably mules, bots and dead. Poor Jealous CEO.

Harley would love her some avi art~<3 Interacting with your avi that is!

Hahahaha, Well.

If it was his aim was to get more attention or Gaia, he certainly did it. rolleyes

Gaia doesn't like WoW, they think they are better, and this is why

WoW is pay to play and WoW doesn't help hack victims

Yes they do help hacked victims. My boyfriend's account was hacked and he got everything back(even though they took awhile to fix it).
You shouldn't say statements like that without knowing.

I love gaia a lot, however, gaia is still too "cute" to be popular world wide like some other games (like WoW).
Also, Gaia is a forum based site. And it is appealed to mostly people who are interested in anime-ish things.

The most gaia could do with their MMO is to be like Ragnarok, which is fine. but remember this is not a computer game site. It's a forum based site. ANd I like gaia the way it is.

Hah, if all these games are only played by teens, I think the companies who develope games would go bankrupt. rofl

Teens don't really have money. Their parents do. And people who have a job do.
to be sucessful in the MMO you need to appeal to a wide range of people.

I really wonder about this and it makes me wonder if he will be at Fanime.
The thing about teenager-only comments have been bugging me for quite a while.
I joined this site when I was 20 and am 23, and I know I'm not the only user in my 20's and who love this place, there is many of us.

Also, I agree with that. WoW is a huge success, with the commericials and jokes about it in pop culture, you do not need to play WoW to understand what is being made fun of in these or being refernced. I mean, ********, they had a Toyota commercial with WoW in it. How much more do you need to be successful?

You know the girl, with the boobs at Fanime, with cookies, that was me.
I should possibly try and get some avy art with me and cookies.

"Say, would you like a Chocolate Chip Cookie?"

Thank you to who ever gave me the goldfish scarf!
I highly doubt the Gaia MMO is ever going to become more popular than WoW. It sounds like Mr. Sherman is trying to make WoW seem less significant than it really is as a ploy. You cannot expect 10% of teens to play your game because most teens ARE TRYING TO GET ON WITH THEIR ******** LIVES.

I'm apologize to Mr. Sherman, but he is getting way over his head, as big as it is.
No wonder Gaia is having such financial trouble. Thanks a whole lot, Craig. neutral

I'm beginning to wonder if the normal GCDer would be more effective than Mr. Sherman...

Craig said something once along the lines of:

WoW is pay to play and WoW doesn't help hack victims

and gaia does, and its free cool

This is wrong. Straight out, blatantly wrong.

My world account was hacked twice, and both times my gear and guild bank items, were returned.

Yes, I saw that, too. You got to edit before I could post. wink

I'm still not sure what to think. It still lacks context, though that article does give it a bit more. I tried searching YouTube to see if there was a clip, but I couldn't find anything. I'm not that familiar with YouTube so I just could be looking the wrong way.

Part of me feels like he's just being stupid, but I can also see what he might be trying to say with that statement- out of everyone WoW could reach, they are only reaching a fraction of those, because they're limiting themselves by being play-to-pay. Something free to play, like Gaia, can reach just as many people, but will reach more of them because it is free. I don't think he was necessarily talking about overall success as compared with other games or as a social phenomenon, but rather in terms of WoW by itself on its own standards- who it's capable of reaching and who they are reaching (and keeping).

Mr. Sherman there seems to think anyone playing any form of an online game is a teenager from his comments. neutral

(P.S. Thanks for posting that link!)

FOUR WHEELS OF FURY! scream

gawd i love that commercial mrgreen

i can also vouch that many WoW players are actually in their 20s, 30s and up. me and my bf being in that category ninja a majority of my bf's guild are in their 20s. the youngest is 19.

Everyone I know IRL and most of the people I run across online who play WoW are over 25. I'd put the number of Known Persons to Me who play WoW at about 3 dozen currently. That does not include another dozen, including the two over-25ers I co-habitate with, who play City of Heroes, a superhero MMORPG similar to WoW.

But then again, I'm a longtime role-playing gamer, so my circle of friends and acquaintances are more likely to be into that. pirate

Although I have made it my personal jihad to make sure Mr. Craig does not ignore the 20 percent of us over the age of 20 here on Gaia, I do understand why he made the remark you refer to: He's the CEO, he's being provocative, and motivational, and that's what they pay him for. I'm OK with that.

WoW is a brand, like any other brand, and it will go through a product life cycle just like cars, computers, insurance policies, coffee, etc... At some point, if Blizzard doesn't stay on top of things (like if *it* tries to only target teens and not the adults who can afford all the ongoing costs), WoW will become easy pickings for the competition.

Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?
I dislike WoW and the concept never appealed to me, so I could safely say "the game sucks and I have no clue why everyone likes it and pays good money for it every month".

But saying it's not a success is a bit... cocky.

And I wasn't aware WoW was ever aimed at "teens". It surely wouldn't be a success if it was.
