Welcome to Gaia! ::

Usually, it's an avatar based around a single item and it's coloration.

Like this one is based around Fallen Wish (originally), then the Black Wolf items.

Usually I just pick one main item that I really want to use, then go through my inventory and the marketplace and match around it until I'm satisfied.

Then at other times, when I just want to cosplay, I pick the central theme of that character and go from their.

I tend to do the first of those two. Except I try not to go through the Marketplace because I'll end up blowing too much of my gold. If I can't make a good enough avatar with the items I already have, I'll choose a different theme.

that entire quote is how i do it wink even your part
I base my avatars on what I have in my inventory and my favorite colors. If I see an item I like, I might make an avatar for it and quest to obtain my current dream.
Usually I buy an item I really like and match it with other colours.

This avatar was made when the Gogh Reed come out with the suspenders. It was the first time I decided to make a rainbow-ish avatar.
I always find myself drawn most to the pirate-type and ocean inspired items like the Arrh! Set, Nestegg, Aquatica, Koi, and Yemaya's Pearl. I also love the Elegant set.

I take an item, chose the pose I want, then try to build an outfit around it. I rarely cosplay anything, but I do take particular themes (examples: Harlequin, cat person, gothic/regal/scary, and ethnic depending of place and/or time.) and run with them, and I just do what ever my imaginations tries to put together, and try to make it match.

Sleeb has her own personality to me, she's taken on a life of her own and I dress her as she would dress herself. She's an OC for me now. heart
Cute stuff... But mostly I like to stick to looking like my signature these days. So I build and avatar (and keep) it around that.

This whole outfit was built around the Dionaesil hairpin.
I still like it, but now I'm bored of it and just haven't found that new bit of inspiration for a new look [that won't cost a couple million to put together]. But I always try to make an outfit that's at least somewhat realistic- you know, the kind you wouldn't get arrested for wearing in public and also don't defy the laws of gravity.
It gets hard.
@ op: I love your avi btw, really nice.

Samurai inspire me. So does my ancient katana, which I have wanted for a very long time. Very little else does. I think the way the avi is dressed is pretty much how I'll look for some time.

Until AC Complete comes out. Then I'll probably try to build Sephiroth without changing my avi gender. That'll be tough.
I always use an item as a starting point, then I try and find matching colours so I end up digging through my iventory looking for items which can match that colour. whee

I usually lean towards Japanese styles, and a few other fantasy costumes.
I don't even buy commons anymore. I just get all the RIG items I want, then match them up.
P-personally I wear wh-what people give me. Th-the only things I have bought w-was my elf uniform...the rest was gifted.

Y-you can call me Holly.
Well, today its Durem colors and the fact that I tried to make my V pins
and yellow hair match.
