What happened March 27th?

Every once in a while (about once every year, lolzz) I take a look at the statistics at the bottom of the forum page, which shows, how many people are online, how many people are registered etc. And I was quite suprised to see:

"Most users ever online was 532,396 on Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:40 pm"

in comparison to:

"Who is Online? - 14883 users." (at the time of me writing this)

I wasn't really around at that time, it seems so effing much and I'm curious.
So can anyone tell me what happened on that day?
Does anyone recall what was the biggest number before that?

That was a glitch they never bothered to correct. Not even at the high point of Gaia did we break 200k.

no it was a glitch where it wasn't logging off people or something. There's even a dev notice about it.
